No full text

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between eating behavior, eating awareness, and depression in young adults. Young adults aged between 18 and 25 years were included in the study. Questionnaires and body composition measurements were made face-to-face by the researcher in the interview room. The demographic characteristics were questioned through the questionnaire form. Three Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ), Mindful Eating Questionnaire (MEQ), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were used. It was determined that the Mindful Eating Questionnaire total score and Beck Depression Inventory total score affected emotional eating. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between the Beck Depression Inventory total score and the Three Factor Eating Questionnaire sub-scores. There was a statistically significant negative correlation Beck Depression Inventory total score and the Mindful Eating Questionnaire total score and sub-scores of mindless eating and emotional eating. In summary, depression seems to be a factor that triggers emotional eating, and emotional eating is a factor that negatively affects mindful eating.

Depression affects emotional eating.
This study aimed to contribute to disaster research and educational security planning by developing a scale that assesses teachers' individual disaster preparedness. After the 38-item pool formed by the deductive method was subjected to surface and content validity, a draft questionnaire form was created with the remaining 35 items and tested with a pilot study. For the validity and reliability analyses of the scale, a questionnaire was administered to 726 participants, who were determined by convenience sampling method from permanent status teachers working in public schools providing primary and secondary education in two provinces (Bayburt and Gümüşhane) located in the north-east of Turkey, by face-to-face interview method. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis conducted for construct validity, seven factors with eigenvalues above 1, explaining 69.117% of the total variance, were identified. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to verify the structure, and at this stage, nine items were removed from the scale, and analysis was performed again. General goodness of fit values: χ²/sd=3.063, GFI=0.919, AGFI =0.897, CFI=0.950, NFI=0.928 and RMSEA=0.053. Standardized factor loadings ranged between 0.541 and 0.999. The overall Alpha value of the scale is 0.865. As a result of the master validity test, it was determined that the scale met the convergent and divergent validity conditions. The final version of the scale was a psychometrically appropriate measurement tool for the teachers in the sample. </p&gt

Performance comparison of GPM IMERG V07 with its predecessor V06 and its application in extreme precipitation clustering over Türkiye

    No full text

Defining regions with similar characteristics for extreme precipitation is crucial for understanding the impacts of climate change, planning and managing water resources, and designing hydraulic structures. However, studies on the regionalization of extreme precipitation for T & uuml;rkiye are limited, and regional extreme precipitation characteristics are not well defined. In this study, motivated by the need to contribute to this field, homogenous regions for extreme precipitation across T & uuml;rkiye were determined using the latest version (V07) of Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM (IMERG). We initially validated IMERG V07 estimates using data from 214 ground-based stations and compared the results with its predecessor V06. The results revealed that IMERG showed some notable improvements from V06 to V07 for all seasons, especially in winter. During this season, the correlation coefficient increased from 0.57 to 0.64, the mean absolute bias decreased from 78.22 % to 69.27 %, and the RMSE decreased from 11.10 mm/day to 9.70 mm/day. In V07, while the trend of decreasing accuracy with increasing elevation observed in V06 continues, it has been shown that some notable improvements were achieved in continuous and categorical metrics. We then applied widely used non-hierarchical (K-means) and hierarchical (Ward's method) clustering techniques. To perform this, we first applied Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to reduce the number of variables related to extreme precipitation (e.g. amount, frequency, standard deviation, and seasonality) and geographic characteristics to identify the most significant variables for analysis. The K-means method delineated T & uuml;rkiye into eight extreme precipitation regions, while the Ward's method resulted in six distinct extreme precipitation regions. We evaluated the results based on the existing extreme precipitation climatology literature for T & uuml;rkiye and by associating them to known precipitation dynamics, and as a result, we recommended eight precipitation regions determined by the K-means. The identified precipitation regions are expected to contribute to future studies analyzing the effects of climate change and to regional studies on natural disasters resulting from extreme precipitation.</p&gt

    No full text

Marker-assisted breeding serves as a potent tool for screening target germplasm, assessing genetic diversity, and determining breeding potential of a crop. Therefore, inter primer binding site (iPBS)-retrotransposons marker system was employed to evaluate a collection of 33 Brassica genotypes, including 10 Brassica juncea, 5 B. oleracea, 7 Sinapis alba, 5 B. nigra, and 6 B. rapa, were utilized to evaluate their genetic diversity and variations 10 polymorphic primers that generated a total of 144 bands. Various diversity indices were calculated in the studied germplasm, including polymorphism information content (0.13-0.30), effective number of alleles (1.217-1.689), Shannon's information index (0.244-0.531), and gene diversity (0.148-0.370). These indices collectively affirmed substantial genetic variations within the germplasm. Molecular variance analysis revealed that the majority (62%) of genetic variations were present within populations. The Brassica accessions were categorized into three populations utilizing a model-based structure algorithm. Evaluation of diversity indices based on the structure indicated that populations III and II exhibited higher diversity. Principal coordinate analysis and neighbor-joining analysis further corroborated the three distinct populations, confirming the reliability of the STRUCTURE analysis. Notably, the genetic distance assessment identified BN1 and BN3 from B. nigra species and the genotypes BO1 and BO3 from B. oleracea as genetically diverse mustard accessions. The extensive genetic diversity observed within the Brassica germplasm underscores its significance as a valuable genetic resource for comprehensive Brassica breeding programs. Moreover, these accessions hold promise as suitable candidates for heterosis breeding initiatives aimed at improving mustard production.</p&gt

    No full text

This study investigates the green synthesis of chitosan-based silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) and their application as antimicrobial coatings for food preservation. The effects of three coatings were evaluated on refrigerated tomatoes over 22 days: distilled water (control), 1 % chitosan (CH), and chitosan-based Ag NPs (Ag/CH). The synthesized Ag/CH was characterized by FT-IR, UV-vis spectroscopy, SEM, TEM, DLS, and XRD, confirming successful synthesis and a crystalline face-centered cubic structure. Antimicrobial activity, evaluated using the disk diffusion method, showed that Ag/CH coatings demonstrated superior antibacterial properties, with inhibition zones ranging from 9.19 to 11.07 mm. The Ag/CH coating effectively maintained tomato quality, with minimal changes in pH, color, and microbial counts. Although silver migration occurred, it remained within safety limits. This study addresses a gap in the literature by investigating the effects of chitosan-based silver nanoparticles on tomato quality and metal migration, demonstrating their potential as a sustainable solution for food preservation.</p&gt

How do climate policy uncertainty and renewable energy and clean technology stock prices co-move? evidence from Canada

    No full text

This work probes the dynamic co-movement between the Climate Policy Uncertainty Index (CPU) and the Renewable Energy and Clean Technology Index (RECT) employing the novel wavelet power spectrum (WPS) and wavelet coherence (WC) approaches for monthly data between 2013 and 2022. Using the wavelet approach enables us to observe the causality direction from both time and frequency dimensions and also to help detect the causal linkage in the short-medium and long-term horizons. This is the first study aiming to perform this relationship from both time and frequency dimensions. Remarkably, findings reveal that: i) CPU seems only volatile in 2019 and 2021 in the short run; (ii) there was significant volatility in the RECT in the short and long terms (SLT) between 2018 and 2022; (iii) RECT significantly caused the CPU between 2014 and 2018; iv) after 2019, CPU started to cause RECT in the short and medium terms (SMT).</p&gt
