<p>This report presents an overview of the research efforts conducted within the CULTURATI project, highlighting key activities that contribute to its objectives. It covers interdisciplinary research areas, including studies on AI, visitor learning, engagement, and satisfaction within the framework of the CULTURATI conceptual model. Additionally, the report outlines challenges encountered, insights gained, and future research directions. By documenting these efforts, it aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the project's progress and its contributions to the academic field.</p>
Effect of protein corona on drug release behavior of PLGA nanoparticles
<p>Poly(lactic-co-glycolide) (PLGA) nanoparticles are highly attractive for drug delivery due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and potential for controlled release and targeting. Despite these outstanding properties, challenges remain for clinical translation as nanomedicines. One significant factor to address is highlighting the protein corona structure and its effect on the drug release behavior. Protein corona forms upon contact with the bloodstream and influences the fate of the nanoparticles in the body. Here, we synthesize PLGA nanoparticles by miniemulsion/solvent evaporation technique, followed by the formation of protein corona on their surface using either human plasma or fetal bovine serum (FBS). Analysis by both sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) reveals that dysopsonin proteins, mainly albumin, dominate the protein corona structure, suggesting prolonged blood circulation for the PLGA nanoparticles. As an anticancer drug, doxorubicin is encapsulated into PLGA nanoparticles, and in vitro drug release is performed at pH 7.4. While there is a minimal change in cumulative drug release after protein corona formation, our comprehensive analysis through different kinetic models shows that the protein corona alters the drug release profile of PLGA nanoparticles to a modest extent.</p>
The Perception of the Faculty of Communication: A Study on University Reputation
<p>Reputation directly affects the success of educational institutions. This study, conducted to measure students' social perceptions of the Faculty of Communication at Erciyes University, has revealed a reassuring fact. The students overwhelmingly hold a positive attitude towards the faculty and the university, providing a solid foundation for the institution's reputation. Erciyes University Faculty of Communication has 3.080 students. The study was conducted with 432 participants in order to obtain the opinions and thoughts of the students. The research was conducted using a convenience sampling method based on voluntary participation, and data were collected through online surveys. Factors such as geographical proximity to parents and arts and sports cultural activities play a significant role in increasing student satisfaction. Another prominent factor that contributed positively to the increase in student satisfaction was the ability of faculty members to establish healthy communication with students and listen to their concerns. This study emphasizes the importance of strategies for managing and developing the corporate reputation of educational institutions and provides findings that will serve as a basis for future similar studies.</p>
Effects of different rootstocks on the growth and yield characteristics of Papazkarası (Vitis vinifera L.)
<p>Rootstocks, which are becoming increasingly important in viticulture, influence<br>
the growth, yield, and grape quality of the grafted variety. Therefore,<br>
understanding the resistance characteristics of rootstocks to phylloxera,<br>
nematodes, environmental conditions, and abiotic and biotic stresses is crucial.<br>
Selecting a rootstock that is appropriate for the region where the vineyard will be<br>
established optimizes grape quality. The aim of this research is to determine the<br>
performance of the cv. Papazkarası on different rootstocks. For this purpose, an<br>
experiment was established at Irem Çamlica Viticulture and Winery Co. vineyard<br>
in Kırklareli province. Ten-year-old Papazkarası vines grafted onto 1103P, 110R,<br>
and 420A rootstocks were used as plant material. To determine the growth of the<br>
vines, parameters such as shoot elongation rate (cm/week), shoot length changings<br>
(cm), pruning wood weight (PW) (kg/vine), vigor (g), puissance, number of buds<br>
per square meter (number), balanced pruning buds number (number/vine),<br>
vegetative growth (VG), Ravaz Index (RI), Partridge Index (PI), and yield<br>
(kg/vine) were examined. Additionally, to determine cluster characteristics,<br>
cluster width and length (cm), weight (g), and the volume of gappy and spaceless<br>
clusters (cm³) were measured. The results of the research indicated that the 1103P<br>
rootstock had the lowest yield, puissance, RI, PI, and VG values; moderate values<br>
for PW, vigor, number of shoots, number of berries per cluster, and cluster length;<br>
and the highest values for cluster weight, the volume of gappy and spaceless<br>
clusters. The 110R rootstock was found to be more balanced compared to other<br>
rootstocks, with the highest values for vigor, RI, and PI; average values for yield,<br>
puissance, and VG; and the lowest values for PW, number of shoots, number of<br>
berries per cluster, cluster length, weight, and the volume of gappy and spaceless<br>
clusters. The 420A rootstock had the highest values for yield, PW, VG, number<br>
of shoots, number of berries per cluster, and cluster width and length; average<br>
values for RI, PI, cluster weight, and the volume of gappy and spaceless clusters;<br>
and the lowest value for one-year-old cane weight. In conclusion, based on the<br>
characteristics outlined, a selection can be made from these rootstocks according<br>
to cultivation purposes, but other rootstocks should also be investigated</p>
A simulation-based regional ground-motion model for Eastern Türkiye
<p>We developed a data-driven and simulation-based ground motion model (GMM) for Eastern T & uuml;rkiye as a follow up of the Sand & imath;kkaya et al. (Bull Earthq Eng, 2023) paper, which proposes a regional GMM for Western T & uuml;rkiye. This way, we complete the region-specific ground-motion models for the entire country. As in the case of Sand & imath;kkaya et al. (Bull Earthq Eng, 2023) paper, we investigated the influence of regional stress parameter, geometrical spreading,and anelastic attenuation in Eastern T & uuml;rkiye for ground-motion prediction. The proposed model was developed for estimating the geometric means of PGA, PGV and 5%-damped horizontal spectral acceleration up to 10 s. The model is usable for earthquake scenarios of magnitudes between 3.5 and 8, and the path effects are consistent for distances up to 400 km. The magnitude-dependent partially non-ergodic sigma is computed as part of the model. In the paper, we also addressed the differences in locality residuals and anelastic attenuation rates for each event cluster that are determined from the seismotectonic features of the region, event sequences and residual distributions.</p>
Activated carbon cloth with MnCoAl layer double hydroxide nanocomposite for the separation and preconcentration of Pb(II) and Ni(II) from food samples
<p>A novel dispersive solid phase microextraction (dSP-ME) technique using activated carbon cloth (ACC) and layered double hydroxide (LDH) has been developed for enriching and extracting Pb(II) and Ni(II). The ACC@MnCoAl-LDH nanosorbent, has proven with high surface area, superior extraction dynamics and efficiency, compared to traditional sorbents. Structural features of the new ACC@MnCoAl-LDH sorbent were also characterized. Analytical parameters such as pH, adsorbent quantity, sample volume, eluent volume, adsorption/ desorption time, and concentration were optimized, using 7.5 mg of adsorbent. Limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), and preconcentration factor (PF) were determined at 0.71 mu gL -1, 2.35 mu gL -1 and 25 for Pb (II) and 0.07 mu gL -1, 0.22 mu gL -1 and 30 for Ni(II). Validation tests also performed using certified reference materials (CRMs). The % RSD was calculated at 2.5-7.8 for Pb(II) and 3.5-8.2 for Ni(II). The method was applied to determine Pb(II) and Ni(II) levels in packet juices, noodles, and water samples.</p>

A Real-Time Improved ML Method for PQD Classification of a PV-Powered EV Charging Station
<p>The installation of electric vehicle charging stations (EVCSs) that are powered by renewable energy sources has been growing rapidly. However, this has raised a crucial issue regarding the quality of power supplied to these stations. Due to the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources and the high-power requirements of EV charging, power quality disturbances (PQDs) occur more. This study proposes a new intelligent PQD classification method that considers feature extraction/selection based on pyramidal undecimated wavelet transform (p-UWT) and minimum redundancy maximum relevance (mRMR). The feature vector, derived through the application of mRMR, comprises a mere ten elements. The p-UWT-mRMR combination overcomes the problem of noise sensitivity inWTs. In addition, Bayesian optimization and UWT-mRMR have addressed hyperparameter selection difficulties and overfitting in support vector machine models. The proposed method demonstrated an impressive classification accuracy of 99.55% when faced with 30-dB noise. A prototype test platform is developed with EVCS-integrated PV systems in the laboratory to verify the performance of the proposed method in real-time cases. Dynamic analysis revealed that all PQDs have runtimes ranging from 5 to 10ms in experiments. The proposed method has been validated on a dataset of over 20 000 real-world signals with a test accuracy of 99.11%.</p>
Upgrading the Evolutionary Approach to the Study of Forced Oscillations in a Resonator
<p>We investigate the possibility of upgrading of the evolutionary approach to solving vector initial-boundaryvalue problems for the Maxwell equations and solve the equation of forced oscillations in a cylindrical resonator by using the upgraded approach. In addition, the potential for extending the approach to the theory of laser dynamics is discussed.</p>
Presence of<i> Clostridioides</i><i> difficile</i> on spinach, carrots, cheese and milk in Turkey
<p>Introduction: The presence of Clostridioides difficile in water, soil, fertilizers, and animal feces suggests the potential existence of C. difficile in foods that come into contact with these sources or become contaminated through indirect means. Material & method: A total of 431 samples, consisting of spinach and carrots and raw milk and cheese obtained from cows, goats, buffalo, and sheep, were examined for the presence of C. difficile. Isolates were identified by real-time PCR, ribotyped, and their toxin profiles were determined. Antibiotic susceptibility to vancomycin, clindamycin, and metronidazole was evaluated using the E-test. Results: C. difficile was detected in 3.27 % (4/122) of spinach, 1.85 % (2/108) of carrots, and 2.19 % (2/91) of milk samples. No C. difficile was detected in the cheeses (n = 110). All isolates were obtained from different fields/farms. Only one isolate (from spinach) carried the tcdA and tcdB toxin genes. Six different PCR ribotypes were detected, with two (001, 060) being identified. All isolates were sensitive to vancomycin, clindamycin, and metronidazole. Conclusion: The prevalence of C. difficile in spinach, carrot, and milk samples from selected regions was low, and nontoxigenic strains were prevalent. Despite the low prevalence, the detection of C. difficile in these foods highlights the potential risk of foodborne transmission of this pathogen and underscores the need for monitoring and control strategies to ensure food safety.</p>
