Artist Statement:  My piece is titled Just a Minute.  It was mostly written before the quarantine-social distancing practice and reflects and questions how we really think of the moments that pass before us. These present events have contributed a different, deeper meaning to what we appreciate and the little instances that we are ever missing -or still dismissing, in our lives today. Take this Minute to think. Recline! Preferably on your back to listen. However, please still be mindful of the clock ticking away.

Editor’s Note
My tenure as editor-in-chief comes to a close. It’s bittersweet completing 
another journal knowing nobody will be able to read it until (at least) the fall. 
I certainly miss weekly editor meetings and in-person literary discussions. 
There is a missing human connection I can’t get from petting my dog or talking 
to my family. Despite my craving for a return to normal, I would not risk my 
family’s safety for anything. The successful production of this journal shows 
that through the tireless dedication of our team we were able to overcome the 
challenges of e-learning. I would like to thank the editorial team for their hard 
work during these difficult times. And finally, I would like to thank all of the 
talented writers and artists who make this journal possible in the first place, 
we couldn’t do it without you.
The works of this edition are organized according to the Dewey Decimal 
System. The Dewey Decimal System separates the categories by asking: what 
questions can be answered with this piece? Philosophy is 100-199, and this is 
where you’ll start and be asked, “who am I?”
As you read, think of PLR as your personal library during a time when you 
can’t go out.

The frantic harmony
of a Tuesday morning --
from the top of the stairs
my daughter requests
milk in a cup, “Remember -- ”
she says -- in her sing song
harmony -- “Don’t put it on
top of the cereal. The
slippery mark it makes I don’t
like.”
 This is the scarce, the sacred
development: a rail line
receding into the future.

Rain                                                                                       
So sore and confused I touch the raindrops but they never touch you
All withered and frail your arms outstretched welcoming the gloom
I tremble violently under scarred old clouds and they push me down
Into the dirt I groan as I swallow each bite of the frozen ground
The wind makes me wince the howling gusts of air make me choke
As you cause the whites of my itching eyes to fill up with smoke
Then I mutter a dream that turns into a scream and your face so pale
Comes apart at the seams like a sewing machine that swallowed a nail
Now the stream turns into a river and the river turns into a flood
Surrounded by sewage and discolored water like blankets of dark blood 
The raindrops melt into my eyes of smoke and drip down into my mouth
Swallowing the stale stench of tears from the thunderclouds
Swallowing, swallowing
Forever and ever swallowing...
