Ease of Figure Reversal and Creativity
In Honors Psychology, I studied Figure reversals and perception. This concept intrigued me and was the reason I decided to do a research project on our ability to reverse figures based on our creativity. A study was conducted to determine the relationship between self-reported and measured creativity in the ease of figure reversal. Divergent thinking involves the thought process of generating creative ideas by exploring many possible solutions. J.P. Guilford proposed that creativity could be studied objectively and attempted to prove this through the Guilford’s Alternative Uses Task. The Alternative Uses Task involves asking a question that requires the individual to complete a task such as listing as many unique uses of an object as they can. Besides divergent thinking, insight creativity has also been researched using tests such as the RAT or Remote Associates Test created in the 1960s by Sarnoff Mednick to measure convergent thinking. Unlike divergent thinking, when measuring convergent thinking the individual gives one response with only one correct answer. A survey including the topics of figure reversals and cognitive tests was distributed and completed by participants. The figure reversal images included the Duck-Rabbit, “My Wife and My Mother-in-Law illusion, and a painting often attributed to either Salvador Dali or Octavio Ocampo. Results showed that individuals who were divergent thinkers were more likely to reverse ambiguous figures with ease. While participants who portrayed more insight creativity were less likely to reverse figures with ease
How the Change in Presidency Affected the Venezuelan Economic Crisis
For my project, I conducted research to investigate how the change in presidency from Hugo Chávez to Nicolás Maduro affected the current economic crisis in Venezuela. My major goals were to build on the skills I have learned in my past honors classes and to examine the economic and political actions that have led to the worsening economic situation in Venezuela. To complete my project, I first formulated a research question about my desired topic that was broad enough to find articles but narrow enough so that there were only a few articles containing the information I wanted. Next, I found four academic, peer-reviewed articles written in both Spanish and English. After that, I read each article thoroughly and completed a document called a Learning Experience Organizer (LEO) for each one. LEOs have five sections: Credibility of Author/Authors, Summary of Text, Evaluation of Text, Reflection on Usefulness to your Research Question, and Extra Notes. Once I finished all four of my LEOs, I juxtaposed them to use only the most important and universal information from my articles. Finally, I put this information into a PowerPoint presentation that I presented in Spanish to my class. I drew two major conclusions from this project. My first major takeaway is that the change in presidency did not cause the economic crisis; it began with Chávez back in 2010. Additionally, I concluded that even though Maduro did not cause the economic crisis, he perpetuated it by not changing the policies that were in place
Theseus & The Amazons
This presentation includes the story of the minotaur, beginning all the way from when Minos, the king of Crete, was born until the moment Theseus entered the Labyrinth and laid waste to the beast after the decades of anguish it caused for the Athenians. It also describes many aspects of the tribe of Amazon women, such as where they lived, their legacy, different portrayals, myths surrounding the tribe, and their experiences with Theseus and Hercules.
