A Closer Look at Illinois\u27 Approach to K-12 School Funding
This project will focus on the funding aspect of K-12 schools in the state of Illinois. The presentation will touch a bit on the distribution of funding at both federal and state government levels. Additionally, the project will take a further look at what makes school budgets the way they are as a result of legislature and policy. Also, a variety of schools (private, charter, and public) will be compared to see how they are impacted differently or not as much.
Then, the presentation will take into consideration how differing budgets affect school communities and discover how the rise of COVID-19 has presented more challenges. After reviewing all other aspects of what goes into funding schools, the project will present ways individuals and the government will and have taken action to ameliorate funding to achieve greater education for students. Overall, the presentation will center on all the factors that go into creating school funding, the outcomes, and better ways of managing effective funding
Learning about Material Culture Research and First Nations Outreach by Analyzing the Mack Lithic Collection.
This paper discusses an attempt to co-curate stone tools (lithics) found in the Mack Lithic Collection (MLC) with Illinois’ First Nation groups. Our research focused on ways we could incorporate a Traditional Owners perspective and voice into the interpretation of the MLC. To help support this research, we collaborated with multiple institutions, conducted a literature review, interviewed experts, and presented the results of our research at the Annual Conference of the Illinois Association for Advancement of Archaeology. Along the way, our questions changed, and we realized that there was no right answer, but a way to move forward.
