Effect of Methanolic Extract of Mucuna Pruriens on Hormonal Modulation and Sperm Parameters in Male Rats
Get PDFObjective: Studies on hormonal changes is an effective method for assessing infertility conditions. A widely used pesticide 1, 2 Dibromo 3 Chloropropane (DBCP) causes infertility by damaging testis in humans. This in turn disturbs Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH), sex steroid hormone levels. The seed extract of <em>Mucuna pruriens</em> (<em>M. pruriens</em>) is well known antioxidant and is expected to improve the sperm quality after exposure to DBCP.
Method: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four Groups. Group I – Control received 0.9% saline, Group II – single dose of 50mg/kg 1, 2-Dibromo 3 Chloro Propane (DBCP)dissolved in Dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) (1ml) was administered for 30 days, Group III – Methanolic extract of <em>Mucuna pruriens</em> (200mg/kg body weight) was administered for 45 days after 50mg/kg of 1,2 dibromo 3 chloropropane (DBCP) treatment (30 days).Group IV – 200mg/kg/day BW methanolic extract of <em>M. pruriens</em> for 45 days.
Results:The body, testis, and epididymis weights of all the rats were taken. DBCP induced group II toxicity bearing animals were significantly decreased when compared to group I control animals. In group II DBCP-induced toxicity rats, there was a reduction in sperm morphology, concentration, and motility as well as follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), testosterone, and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels. DBCP-induced group II toxicity-bearing animals\u27 above-mentioned parameters improved after treatment with <em>Mucuna pruriens</em> seed extract.
Conclusion: The administration of <em>M. pruriens</em>seed extract improves sperm quality and Hormone levels in the DBCP exposed group III rats

Virtual Scenic Spaces and the Staging of Interactivity
Get PDFIn this essay I propose to consider the possible existence of a virtual scenic space based on a proposal in which the devices used for its development are determinant in enabling processes of production of meaning within its material configuration and location. The analysis will be focused on Now by Pat Catterson (2016), a work that will be questioned about the devices used, if they can determine the creation of a virtual scenic space and if so, what are the forms of expectation and reading contracts that they propose. I wonder if the production of images made possible by the use of hyper-devices modifies the perceptual scheme that can be foreseen in a classic reading contract between performers and spectators. Being Now a proposal that brings together a group of face-to-face performers acting simultaneously with another group of performers located in different parts of the planet and that also enables various forms of expectation (audience in the room and audience that consumed the streaming of the same) is useful to address the new links that have been generated between producers and viewers in technological environments that involve technological devices, the development of the Internet and various software to relate distant levels of reality or impossible contact.

Examining Pre and In-Service Teachers Views of their Preparation for Inclusive Education
Get PDFThe concept of inclusive education (IE) suffered many challenges some of which have been linked to teachers’ lack of knowledge and understanding to teach in an IE environment. In Samoa, it is now almost two decades since the inclusive education (IE) phenomenon has been introduced into its education system, however it is still not clear how teachers feel about their preparation to teach in an IE environment. This qualitative research examined teachers’ views concerning their teacher preparation for IE. Using an open ended questionnaire, data was gathered from 94 pre and in- service primary school teachers who were in 2022 trained within the faculty of education (FOE) at the National University of Samoa. Findings indicated that teachers needed adequate IE courses to prepare them to teach in an IE classroom as the single IE course that is currently offered by the faculty is not sufficient to provide them with the requisite knowledge and skills to teach in an IE environment. Findings also suggested that limited IE knowledge suffered from the absence of an IE program and lack of opportunity for teachers to practice learned skills within an IE environment which in turn affected their confidence to teach in such context. This has greater implication on teacher training preparations, hence the need for the training institution to develop programs in IE so teachers are well equipped to work in such context is very crucial
Comparison of Thermal Numerical Simulation Data with Experimental Data from the ISCT 200-US Permanent Magnet Hall Thruster
Get PDFDue to its great efficiency, the Plasma Physics Laboratory of the Physics Institute of the University of Brasilia (PPL/PI/UnB) has been developing Hall thrusters since 2004. Testing NeFe and SmCo permanent magnets, excellent results were achieved with the PHALL II series (PPL). However, permanent magnets have limitations due to the working temperature (determined by the Curie temperature). Therefore, it is necessary to strictly control its temperature to avoid the demagnetization effect. In this work, the results of the numerical thermal simulation were compared with experimental temperature results for the ISCT200-US Hall Thruster in order to verify the reliability of the simulation tool, allowing its future use in simulations of other Hall thrusters. Experimental temperature values and, whenever possible, dimensions and materials of the propellant components were collected from references on the ISCT200-US. A mechanical drawing of the ISCT200-US was created, a numerical thermal simulation was developed, temperature simulation values were collected and compared with experimental values. A coherent comparison was achieved, which demonstrated the reliability of the simulation tool. Such results are important for the space qualification of thrusters subsequent to the PHALL II series
