INTRODUCTION: The Solanum boldoense Dunal & A.DC, is endemic to Cuba, where it is found in forests and forest edges at low to medium elevations. It has two synonymous species, Solanum cardiophyllum Dunal and Solanum scandens Sess & Moc. . In Cuba it is used as an ornamental because of the color of the blue flowers. In the form of a vine, the fruit is a globular berry, 1-1.2 cm in diameter, red when ripe. It is occasionally confused with the Mexican and Central American Species S. dulcamaroides Dunal, to which it is probably closely related. OBJECTIVES: For not having previous studies Phytochemistry it was decided to study trying to know the steroidal compounds of the species. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The plant was collected in the Serra da Grande Pedra, in Santiago de Cuba, by Dr. Victor Ramn Fuentes Fiallo, who in addition identified it and made the desiccant, which was deposited at the Experimental Plant of Medicinal Plants, Dr. Don. Toms Roig, Minsap, Cuba. The plant was transferred to the Organic Chemistry laboratory of the Faculty of Chemistry, where the organs were separated, and placed to dry in the shade and then in an oven with air flow at 40-50 C, for 48 hours. After drying, the material was ground to a homogeneous powder. For the extraction, the decoction method was used for 4 hours, which was repeated 4 times. The extracts were concentrated in vacuum to syrup. From the column layer chromatographic study, it was possible to purify three steroidal compounds, which were soon identified through the layer chromatographic study, using isolated and identified steroid patterns from other Solanum species. RESULTS: From our phytochemical study, the isolation and identification of three steroidal compounds was obtained, such as Solasodine, Solasodieno and Diosgenina. CONCLUSIONS: Solanum boldoense Dunal & A. DC, has steroidal compounds such as Solasodine, Solasodiene and Diosgenin

Building the Federated States of Europe: A New Constitution for Unity and Democracy

    Get PDF
The governance of the European Union (EU) through treaties and without an adequate structure of its institutions is complex, inefficient, lacks transparency and legitimacy, and is difficult to understand for citizens. Furthermore, there is no clear separation of powers in the EU and, while a succession of treaties has gradually increased the powers of the European Parliament, its ability to influence and develop policies remains limited and subordinate to the European Commission and Council. A serious problem for the EU is that its citizens usually know little about their elected representatives and lack information about how political decisions are made. The large number of actors and the complexity of institutional links, the lack of transparency in consensus decision-making within the Council, and the drafting of laws and regulations by unelected technocrats instead of popularly elected representatives, are elements that call into question the democratic quality of the EU and erode its institutions. To overcome the important problems that plague the EU democratic system, it will be necessary to build a common European project where the different powers are strictly separated and citizens have direct participation in decision-making. To this end, a Citizens' Convention led by the Federal Alliance of European Federalists (FAEF) was held between October 2021 and April 2022 to replace the EU treaties with a Constitution and establish the Federated States of Europe. The work of the more than 70 members who participated in the Citizen Convention was captured in a Constitution with ten articles that establish the necessary government structures of the Federation and the citizens rights and duties

Femicide in International Law and ECHR Jurisprudence

    Get PDF
Femicide, as a legal term, is not defined in international instruments. However, this crime is found in the criminal legislation of some countries. Many states have included femicide as either intentional homicide or serious intentional injury, often considering it as an aggravating circumstance of the offense. This study explores the concept of femicide, along with relevant provisions at the international and European levels. It also examines pertinent cases from the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights concerning femicide

Potential Encapsulating Microparticle from Degreased Dry Flour of Guava Seeds

    Get PDF
Brazil is one of the world\u27s largest producers of guava. The estimated production is approximately 552,393 tons/year. Most guava production is processed to manufacture juices, nectars, pulps, and ice creams. During the processing of guava, about 40% of the waste from the processing of guava consists of seeds, whose disposal causes environmental problems. Within this context, this work aimed to develop encapsulating material from guava seed flour and to study the kinetics, equilibrium, and thermodynamics involved in the microencapsulation process. Initially, the characterization of the guava seeds (carbohydrates, proteins, fibers, and ashes) was carried out, then the seed yield was calculated. After the characterization, the seed yield was calculated, and these were used to prepare dry and defatted flour. This flour was characterized in terms of solubility, hygroscopicity, bed and compacted density, wettability, morphology, zero load point, and thermal analysis. The experimental parameters of the adsorption process were previously optimized. The adsorption capacity was evaluated in a batch system under a controlled temperature of 25 2C. From the results obtained, it is possible to infer that the dry and defatted seed flour presented the potential for the proposed purpose, with a high capacity to incorporate the methylene blue dye (~83%). The experimental results showed that the pseudo-second-order model better described the adsorption kinetics. Finally, thermodynamic results analysis revealed a spontaneous adsorption process (?G= -44.10 kJ mol-1), exothermic (?H = -22.47 kJ mol-1), and with ?S = -73 .62 J mol-1 K-1, which shows small changes in randomness at the solute-adsorbent interface during adsorption

Reaching Pandemic Milestones with Country Primary and Secondary Vaccination Inflection Points: An Assessment of Foundational and Hybrid Fore

    Get PDF
The devastating worldwide impact of the COVID-19 pandemic created a need to better understand the effects of vaccination on case fatality rates (CFR) in a pandemic setting. Foundational time series forecasting models (ARIMA, Prophet, LSTM) and novel hybrid models (SARIMA-Bidirectional LSTM andSARIMA-Prophet-Bidirectional LSTM) were compared for performance and accuracy to forecast vaccination inflection points for 26 countries. Correlation analyses demonstrated that stringency index, age 65 and older, life expectancy, andpositive test rate, are factors correlating the most with the vaccination and case fatality rates. The primary vaccination inflection pointwas reached at 83.27 days (15-367 days), at the vaccination rate of 13.1% (0.1% - 50%), with 42% of countries seeing the initial impact in <50 days. The secondary vaccination inflection point (SVIP) was reached at 339.31 days (161-560 days) at the cumulative vaccination rate of 67.8% (28% - 89%), with 23.1% of countries reaching it in < 300 days, 73% in the second half of 2021, and 27% in early 2022. The highest vaccination rate was achieved in Portugal (89%) and the lowest in Bulgaria (28%). All assessed machine and deep learning methodologies performed with high accuracy relative to COVID-19 historical data, demonstrated strong forecasting value, and were validated by anomaly and volatility detection analyses. The novel triple hybrid model performed the best and had the highest accuracy across all performance metrics.Countries prioritizing the health of elderly and frail population and utilizing AI technology will be better prepared for any future pandemic

Unleashing the Power of the Belt and Road Initiative: Transformative Challenges for China and its Dynamic Partners!

    Get PDF
2015 marked a significant milestone for China\u27s economic development, as its outbound investment surpassed inbound investment for the first time. This shift was driven by various factors, including a mature demographic transition, slower internal migration, and diminishing returns on physical capital investments. As a result, China\u27s competitiveness in low-wage manufacturing exports was declining, necessitating a new growth model. China launched the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in response to these challenges in 2013. The BRI\u27s initial stages took place in Kazakhstan and Indonesia, two developing countries strategically chosen based on economic history, geography, and demographics. The overarching goal of the BRI is to not only drive China\u27s development but also create new opportunities for other developing nations. A key aspect of the BRI is the concept of "patient capital," which involves concessional investments and foreign aid. This approach allows China to support other countries\u27 development while facilitating the internationalization of its financial sector and strengthening the renminbi\u27s role in the global economy. China\u27s experience with foreign aid and its economic development provides valuable lessons that shape the ongoing form and trajectory of the BRI. By leveraging these insights, the BRI aims to promote sustainable growth, infrastructure development, and economic cooperation among participating countries, fostering mutual benefits and shared prosperity. Overall, the Belt and Road Initiative presents a transformative opportunity for China and other developing nations to collaborate, enhance connectivity, and drive inclusive economic development on a global scale. In this article, we highlight the benefits that the BRI brings to China in terms of economic development, international cooperation, and enhancing its global influence. The BRI represents a transformative opportunity for China and its dynamic partners, addressing the challenges they face and opening up new paths for mutual growth and sustainable development
