    Evaluation of mandibular trabecular and cortical structure by fractal analysis in hyperlipidemia and hypertension patients

    Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the mandibular trabecular and cortical changes in patients with hyperlipidemia (HL) and/or hypertension (HT) using fractal dimension (FD) analysis, mandibular cortical width (MCW), panoramic mandibular index (PMI) and mandibular cortical index (MCI). Materials and methods: Panoramic radiographs of 100 patients were evaluated. FD measurement of three region of interest (ROI) including the angulus, corpus and interdental bone area were made. MCW, PMI and MCI were also measured and noted. Results: Angulus, corpus and interdental FD values were significantly lower in three disease groups than the control group. Angulus, corpus, and interdental FD values were significantly lower in the HL+HT group than in the HL group and HT group. MCW value was significantly lower in the HL group, HT group, and HL+HT group than the control group. The cortical index C1 was more common in the control group while C2 was more common in the HT, HL and HL+HT group. Conclusion: The fact that FD was significantly lower in the HL+HT group compared to the HL and HT groups indicates the positive effect of their association on bone loss and quality. FD measurements on images obtained using a direct digital panoramic system can be used for treatment planning and follow-up of patients with HL and/or HT

    Utilizing olive leaves as a rich source of multifunctional bioactive compounds to fight oxidative stress, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, and cancer using <i>in vitro</i>, <i>in silico</i>, and bioinformatics techniques

    Olive leaves are of significant interest in traditional medicine and in the development of functional nutraceuticals. In this study, the leaves of four olive varieties (Halhali, arbequina, gemlik, karamani) were utilized to examine and compare the chemical composition and biological activities, particularly their role in enzyme inhibition, cancer prevention, and apoptosis induction. Results showed that among the tested varieties analyzed, Gemlik (77.79 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g) and halhali (76.03 mg GAE/g) exhibited the phenolic contents while arbequina had the highest flavonoid content (36.51 mg rutin equivalent (RE)/g). Similarly, these two varieties of extracts recorded strong antioxidant activity in several assays. Gemlik (2.70 mg galantamine equivalent (GALAE)/g) and arbequina (2.59 mg GALAE/g) demonstrated the highest acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition. The results of MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide)) assay showed arbequina provided the highest cytotoxic effect against HeLa cells (IC50 value: 60.59 mu g/ml) and annexin-V/PI staining confirmed the inducing of apoptosis by arbequina in HeLa cells. In conclusion, the studied olive varieties of leaf extracts appeared to have more potential as a health supplement rich in natural antioxidants and merit further intensive study

    Delta sticky traps baited with the synthetic sex pheromone (2R)-butyl (7Z)-tetradecenoate of the vine bud moth, Theresimima ampellophaga (Bayle-Barelle, 1809) (Lepidoptera: Zygaenidae, Procridinae), were used for detection and monitoring of the seasonal flight of the adults of this species in Southeastern Anatolia in Türkiye. This study was carried out in Diyarbakır (two districts), Mardin (three districts) and Batman (four districts) Provinces in 2022–2024. Catches of Th. ampellophaga males were recorded in all localities in Diyarbakır and Mardin Provinces during the three year study period. In 2022, the first vine bud moth adult was captured by the pheromone trap on 23.06.2022 in Diyarbakır-Hazro-Yazgı, while the last adult was caught in Mardin-Mazıdağı-Ömürlü and Mardin-Savur-Başvava on 16.07.2022. In 2023, the first adult was captured in Diyarbakır-Hazro-Yazgı on 22.06.2023, and the last individual was caught in Diyarbakır-Eğil-Dere on 11.07.2023. In 2024, the first male was captured in Diyarbakır-Hazro-Yazgı on 13.06.2024, while the last individuals were caught in Diyarbakır-Eğil-Dere on 26.06.2024

    Paving the Road for Sustainable Development in Nordic Countries: Do Green Investments Make Difference?

    Paving a sustainable development road for countries by harmonizing economic development and ecological sustainability has become one of the significant tasks for policymakers. To this end, green investments (GI) have gained significance for supporting economic activities while preventing environmental deterioration. However, the former literature provides limited evidence of whether GI is an effective tool for promoting sustainable development. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to investigate how GI, proxied by renewable energy investments (RENI), impacts sustainable development proxied by load capacity factor (LCF) in the Nordic Countries, namely Denmark, Finland, and Sweden, from 2008 M1 to 2020 M6 by using novel Wavelet Transform Coherence (WTC) and Quantile-on-Quantile regression (QQR) as a baseline estimator. Quantile regression (QR) is also used to check for robustness. Empirical results of the WTC method show a time- and frequency-based interaction between GI and LCF in Nordic states. The QQR estimation shows that GI can improve and promote sustainable development in Denmark and Finland. At the same time, GI may not have the desired impact on sustainable development in Sweden. QR estimation results imply that the obtained findings are robust. Therefore, promoting GI could be an efficient way to promote sustainable development in Denmark and Finland
