    No full text
This study investigates the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT) among academics working in the field of educational science in T & uuml;rkiye. Employing a mixed-methods research design, the study aimed to explore both quantitative and qualitative aspects of academics' interactions with ChatGPT. In the quantitative phase, 396 academics completed the "KAP-C Questionnaire" (Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Regarding the Educational Use of ChatGPT) to determine their perceptions and behaviors concerning ChatGPT. The findings revealed diverse perceptions among academics regarding ChatGPT's capabilities in educational settings, alongside ethical concerns. Statistical analysis indicated that gender and prior technology training did not significantly influence their attitudes (p > .05). However, significant differences were found based on years of work experience, favoring those with 21 or more years of experience (p < .05). The qualitative phase involved semi-structured interviews with two groups: 23 academics demonstrating high ChatGPT usage and 16 with low usage. Qualitative data highlighted perceived benefits such as efficiency, creativity enhancement, and improved information access facilitated by ChatGPT. Despite these advantages, concerns about reliability, accuracy, and ethical implications were prominent among academics. The study identified multiple uses of ChatGPT including education, information retrieval, idea generation, and productivity enhancement. Challenges such as usability issues and concerns about language and information quality underscored the need for improving ChatGPT's reliability and usability in academic settings. This research contributes to understanding the complex attitudes towards and usage patterns of ChatGPT among academics in T & uuml;rkiye, shedding light on both its potentials and challenges in educational contexts

Clinical characteristics, mid-term outcomes and management of asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism: A multicentre retrospective cohort study

    No full text
Purpose The primary objective of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the demographic, biochemical, and clinical characteristics of patients with asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism (aPHPT), analyze their long-term outcomes, and discuss the effectiveness of current therapeutic strategies in light of the existing literature. We anticipate that our study will provide clinicians with guidance regarding surgical decision-making beyond the standard criteria for aPHPT. Methods This was a nationwide, multicenter, observational, retrospective cohort study. All tertiary care endocrinology departments across the country were invited to participate. Center inclusion criteria required the enrollment of a sufficient number of aPHPT patients, confirmed by careful diagnostic evaluation in accordance with established guidelines, regular follow-up for at least one year, and systematic monitoring for complications. Results Data from 27 centers representing various regions of Turkey were included in the study. A total of 829 patient records were reviewed, and after excluding 25 patients who did not meet eligibility criteria, 804 patients were included in the final analysis. The mean age was 55.59 +/- 11.54 years, with a female predominance (85%, n = 683). The baseline prevalence of comorbidities was as follows: hypertension in 43% (n = 346), diabetes mellitus in 27.1% (n = 216), and cardiovascular disease in 10.8% (n = 87) of patients. Bone mineral density (BMD) measurements were available for 701 patients, among whom osteoporosis was present at 23.4% and osteopenia at 50.5%. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) significantly declined by the third year compared to baseline (p = 0.003). The prevalence of cardiovascular disease significantly increased at year three compared to baseline and the first year (p = 0.002). A significant association was found between the presence of osteoporosis and lower baseline serum magnesium levels (p < 0.001), particularly among patients with magnesium levels below 1.6 mg/dL compared to those with levels within the normal range (1.6-2.5 mg/dL). Additionally, patients with osteoporosis demonstrated significantly lower serum phosphate levels compared to other groups (p < 0.001). Conclusion The management of asymptomatic PHPT continues to present numerous unanswered questions. Hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes mellitus were found to be more prevalent among aPHPT patients compared to the general population. The observed increase in cardiovascular events over time suggests that cardiovascular disease could become a more prominent factor in future surgical decision-making. Furthermore, the significant decline in GFR over follow-up may necessitate revisiting the surgical threshold of GFR < 60 mL/min in future guidelines. Routine assessment of serum magnesium and phosphate levels should be considered, particularly in patients at high risk for osteoporosis. Future research may further redefine surgical indications in the management of aPHPT

In today’s business climate, there is a growing demand for integrating social responsibility and environmental stewardship into supply chain management practices. This study investigates how green supply chain management mediates the relationship between social responsibility, engagement orientation, and overall supply chain performance. Data were collected through a survey of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, which yielded 333 valid responses. The research employed Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to conduct a thorough quantitative analysis. The results validated the study’s hypotheses, highlighting the essential role of green supply chain management in the framework. Furthermore, it was found that both social responsibility and environmental orientation positively affect the supply chain performance of SMEs in the area. These findings provide valuable insights for business managers, emphasizing the substantial impact of green supply chain management on enhancing supply chain efficiency

The study aims to explore the factors influencing the disclosure of ESG reports of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam, an emerging economy in Southeast Asia, using fundamental theories such as legitimacy theory, stakeholder theory, organizational theory, institutional theory, and agency theory. Using a survey dataset of 217 SMEs in Vietnam’s two largest cities obtained through convenience sampling, we tested hypotheses and structural equation models using SmartPLS software. The results indicate that legal regulations have the greatest impact on ESG report disclosure among SMEs in Vietnam, while the sector of an enterprise exerts the least influence. These findings provide insights into the factors influencing ESG disclosure in an emerging economy, offering valuable implications for companies, policymakers, and other stakeholders

Thinking styles and environmental leadership: Governance strategies in the Philippines’ coastal areas

    Get PDF
This paper examines the application of the Herrmann Brain Dominance Model in local governance in the province of Negros Oriental, Philippines, particularly in the management of coastal areas. Leadership has shifted to include diverse thinking styles, for it has been found that a person’s unique thinking style determines how things get done. The Herrmann Model has demonstrated this and given results on how a person leads regarding their predominant mode of thinking. In coastal management, where local governments face complex environmental issues, understanding thinking styles can enhance governance strategies. The study uses a mix of qualitative and quantitative design to assess the thinking styles and ecological problems in 07 local government units in Negros Oriental. Data were gathered through surveys, interviews, and documentary research. Results indicate that most of the local officers are analytical thinkers (42.85%) and organizational thinkers (35.71%) but lack team-oriented thinkers (14.28%) and creativity-oriented thinkers (7.14%), which does not let them create innovative solutions for sustainable coastal management. The study stresses integrating creative problem-solving and analytical skills to address environmental issues like habitat destruction, siltation, and overfishing. The findings suggest that while the local leaders are good at coping with the immediate environmental issues, they can improve their thinking flexibility for sustainability through leadership training, cross-sector collaboration, scenario planning, and developing sustainability policies to deal with the complex environmental challenges
