COVID-19 Phobia Among Diabetic Individuals Living in Provinces with High COVID-19 Case Rates in Turkey
Objective: This study aims to assess the level of COVID-19 phobia, its influencing factors, and its effects on metabolic parameters among diabetic individuals living in provinces with the highest COVID-19 case rates in Türkiye.Methods: This descriptive and correlational study included 496 diabetic individuals residing in Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, and Kocaeli. Data were collected using the Individual Identification Form and the COVID-19 Phobia Scale (C19P-S). The data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Spearman correlation coefficient.Results: It was determined that 60.5% of the participants experienced an increase in blood glucose levels, 72.6% had a decline in exercise habits, and 57.7% had an increased need for insulin. COVID-19 phobia levels were found to be higher among individuals with Type 1 diabetes, those with higher education levels, and those with higher income levels.Conlusion: COVID-19 phobia has negatively affected blood glucose levels, daily insulin requirements, and healthy lifestyle habits among individuals with diabetes living in large cities. To mitigate these effects, telehealth services and psychosocial support mechanisms should be developed to reduce anxiety levels and strengthen disease management.</p
The Relationship Between Frailty, Spiritual Orientation, and Death Anxiety in Older Adults With Chronic Illness
The purpose of the current work was to identify the levels of frailty, spiritual orientation, and death anxiety and the relationship between them in older adults with chronic illness. This descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational study was conducted with 221 participants. Of the participants, 43.9% were frail. Considering the correlation between the scales, a positive moderate significant correlation was identified between the FRAIL Scale and the Death Anxiety Scale. In contrast, a negative moderate significant correlation was revealed between the Spiritual Orientation Scale, FRAIL Scale, and Death Anxiety Scale. When the mediator variable, death anxiety, was not included in the model, the total effect of spiritual orientation on death anxiety was significant. It was revealed that death anxiety mediated the relationship between spiritual orientation and frailty. Hence, it is recommended that spiritual care needs and death anxiety be evaluated in the assessment of patients’ frailty levels and patient care

Effects of Vitamin A, D3, E, and Selenium Supplementation on Reproductive Performance in Lactating Kilis Goats Applied with Estrus Synchronization During the Breeding Season
This study investigated the effects of supplementation with vitamins A, D3, E, and selenium (Se) on fertility parameters in Kilis goats during the breeding season, in addition to a synchronization protocol. A total of 70 Kilis goats were randomly divided into vit-min (n = 35) and control (n = 35) groups. All goats received a vaginal sponge containing 20 mg of flugestone acetate for 9 days. On the day the sponge was inserted, the vit-min group received intramuscular injections of 200,000 IU of vitamin A, 30,000 IU of vitamin D3, 20 mg of vitamin E, 1 mg of sodium selenate, and an additional 60 mg of vitamin E, while the control group received no supplements. On the day the sponges were removed, both groups received 500 IU of eCG and 250 µg of cloprostenol, and the vit-min group also received a second injection containing vitamins A, D3, and E. Estrus monitoring was performed by introducing bucks to the flock twice daily, 24-72 hours after the removal of sponges. Pregnancy diagnosis was made by transabdominal ultrasonography on the 50th day after mating, and litter size was determined at kidding. Estrus rates were found to be 100% in both groups (P>0.05). Although the pregnancy rate was numerically higher in the vit-min group (68.57%) compared to the control group (48.57%), there was no statistically significant difference (P>0.05). Similarly, although litter size was higher in the vit-min group, it was not statistically significant (P>0.05). In contrast, the fecundity rate was significantly higher in the vit-min group (154.28%) compared to the control group (91.42%) (P0.05). In conclusion, adding vitamin-mineral supplementation to the synchronization protocol improved reproductive performance in lactating Kilis goats by increasing fecundity. This approach is considered applicable and potentially economically advantageous in pasture-based systems. However, comprehensive studies with larger sample sizes are needed to more clearly demonstrate its effectiveness.</jats:p

Evaluation of resistance of bean genotypes to common bean bacterial blight disease agents and characterisation of plant defence mechanisms involved in resistance
Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is one of the most intensively grown vegetables in the world due to their economic significance and high nutritional value. The multiple objectives of this study were (i) to isolate and identify Pseudomonas syringae pv. phaseolicola (Psp), Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli (Xap) and P. syringae pv. syringae (Pss) on bean plants cultivated in different regions of T & uuml;rkiye; (ii) to evaluate the resistance of bean genotypes to representative strains of Psp, Xap, and Pss; and (iii) to characterize the resistance mechanisms involved in the resistance of bean genotypes through biochemical, histochemical, and microscopic studies. Bacterial pathogens were identified by biochemical, Microbial Identification System (MIS), and serological (ELISA) tests. The results showed the prevalence of Psp, Xap, and Pss strains in bean plants cultivated in the Central Anatolia, Aegean, Marmara and Mediterranean regions of T & uuml;rkiye. The disease reactions of bean genotypes to bacterial strains from different regions were determined. Accumulation of reactive oxygen species (H2O2) and secondary metabolites such as lignin, phenolics, callose, and phytoalexins, which are among the plant resistance mechanisms that play a key role in preventing pathogen development, were revealed by histochemical and biochemical analyses in bean genotypes during compatible and incompatible interactions. Cells of bean plants resistant or tolerant to the tested bacterial species activated defense mechanisms-such as phytoalexin synthesis and the accumulation of H2O2, lignin, callose, and phenolics in the cell walls-during incompatible interactions. A strong correlation was observed between resistance and these mechanisms, which were rapid and extensive in incompatible interactions compared to compatible interactions. Incorporating these results into breeding programs could accelerate the development of bean cultivars with durable resistance to bacterial blight disease agents
