Griselda Pollock and the Spaces of Writing Painting
Written from the perspective of studying and teaching with Griselda Pollock at the University of Leeds from 1993 to 2002, the essay is structured around key examples of her exploration of painting as the site of historical knowledge and inscriptions of social and psychic subjectivity in, of, and from the feminine. Beginning in 1988 with the essay "Modernity and the spaces of femininity" from the book Vision and Difference, it concludes with the catalogue essay "Nichsapha: Yearning/Languishing/The Immaterial Tuché of Colour in Painting after Painting after History" written for the exhibition Bracha Lichtenberg Ettinger: Artworking 1985-1999 in Brussels in 2000. Underlying the present essay is a profound appreciation of the importance of the Master of Arts in Feminist Historical, Theoretical and Critical Studies in the Visual Arts, established and directed by Griselda Pollock at the University of Leeds as a rigorous, creative and highly productive feminist pedagogical environment in which to think and work
Silence de l’image, violence du regard Ou la possibilité d’une Contre-terreur
Didi-Huberman\u27s art historical position. Starting from his situation within the field, this essay explores Didi-Huberman\u27s engagement with art history as illustrated by his treatment of fundamental landmarks such as a work\u27s dedication or the "flaw" as well as his insights into the ontology, absence or "inconsistency" of the image. Within the scope of this paper, inconsistency will be dealt with by means of analyzing the relationships of proximity and distance between two phrases used by Didi-Huberman to describe images: quand même (nonetheless) and malgré tout (in spite of all). The main hypothesis is that, although virtually synonymous, these phrases are used differently. The first one refers to what Didi-Huberman calls "prototypical images" whose "flaw" pertains to their originalcultural context, namely to religious, ritual or cultic aspects. The phrase in spite of all, on the other hand, is used in relation to the four Auschwitz photos to which Didi-Huberman has devoted a seminal book published under this very title: Images in Spite of All. This essay will consider Didi-Huberman\u27s in spite of all under a different angle, following a forking path opened in the book, where theauthor suggests two possible readings for it and leaves the reader to choose between them: in the first case, the meaning of in spite of all refers specifically to the photographer\u27s agency as expressed in the photo; in the second case this meaning extends to humanity as a whole. For the intents and purposes of this paper, the former will be termed "counter terror," while the latter will be seen as illustrating a classical humanist position
The early work of Griselda Pollock in the context of developing feminist thinking in art history and criticism
1970s. It traces her development of feminist critiques of Art History and her paradigmatic shifts in developing feminist methodologies of writing about art. This is placed within the context of 1970s UK feminist thinking, e.g., the feminist magazine Spare Rib; the little-researched Feminist Art History Collective; and the engagement of feminist thinking about culture with socialist and Marxist thinking, including John Berger, and labour movements. The paper also differentiates between Pollock\u27s context and development and the American feminist art history movement. The paper names a product of Pollock\u27s feminist work of the 1970s as an \u27\u27activism of process\u27\u27 – her bringing together of feminist methodologies, feminist politics, and academic practice, and thanks her for her tireless pursuit of this in her life\u27s work

ANAPHORIC BIASES OF NULL AND OVERT PRONOMINAL SUBJECTS IN CHILD HERITAGE ROMANIAN
This study investigates intra-sentential pronominal subject resolution in ambiguous anaphora contexts by 7- and 10-year-old heritage Romanian – French bilinguals compared to age-matched monolingually-raised Romanian children living in the homeland. The data come from a binary sentence picture matching task which assessed the interpretation of (3rd person singular) null and overt pronominal subjects in while clauses as well as the role of differential object marking on pronominal anaphora resolution. The 7-year-olds did not distinguish between the two subject types and had a subject bias irrespective of the nature of the embedded subject. The 10-year-old group distinguished between the two subject types but the distinction was significant only when the object in the matrix clause was differentially marked. They had a target-like subject bias with null anaphoric pronouns and no bias with overt anaphoric pronouns. These results indicate that in spite of input reduction after onset of schooling the child heritage speakers show progress with respect to pronominal anaphora resolution. The comparison with age-matched monolingually-raised Romanian children living in the homeland revealed a similar delay and a similar response pattern. At age 10, antecedent choice with overt pronominal subjects is not adult-like with any of the two groups. One single difference was found. The 10-year-old monolingual children distinguished more categorically between null and overt pronominal subjects. The delay is accounted for in terms of the hybrid behaviour of overt pronominal subjects in Romanian and early inability to integrate different information sources in the processing of anaphora resolution, a phenomenon at the interface between syntax and discourse pragmatics
Strategy to fulfil pond farmers\u27 family needs in Tidal flood areas, Banjar Kemuning village, Sidoarjo regency
Banjar Kemuning is a coastal village that often experiences tidal floods. Farmers suffer losses, and this encourages them to carry out adaptation strategies and anticipate and overcome deficiencies in fulfilling their daily needs due to tidal floods. This research aims to: 1) explore pond farmers\u27 understanding of tidal floods; 2) explore farmers\u27 perceptions of tidal floods; 3) analyse the understanding of pond farmers regarding the strategies that have been implemented to fulfil needs after the tidal flood. Alfred Schütz\u27s phenomenology analysed these phenomena. Research data was obtained from in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, which were then tested for validity by source triangulation and analysed using the Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The research shows important themes, namely that tidal floods cannot be predicted and cause business losses, that farmers\u27 income is insufficient for living needs, like pond repairs before and after tidal floods, debt, having a secondary job
Smart City development in “Nusantara”, the new capital of Indonesia: local government and community readiness
The smart city concept must be implemented in Nusantara, the new capital of Indonesia. This study aims to define the concept of a smart city for “Nusantara” and assess the readiness of the local government and community. The primary data was collected usingquestionnaires, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews. In addition, secondary data were extracted from the smart city master plan’s design. The findings of this study are the concept of the smart city already known by most local government officials. Thecommunity and local government are enthusiastic and well-prepared to develop Nusantara Capital City and implement the smart city concept. In Nusantara Capital City, the potential of adequately managed human and natural resources becomes an asset and an opportunity for implementing the smart city concept. However, preparations must be made for various supporting factors, including physical infrastructure, digital infrastructure, human resources, the environment, disasters, and partnerships

THE CRISIS OF THE LEFT IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC, A PARTY-ELITE PERSPECTIVE (KSČM AND SOCDEM)
For approximately two decades, the Czech Republic has stood out as an outlier in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), being the only country where a largely unreformed communist successor party, the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSČM), hasconsistently enjoyed stable and significant electoral support. Simultaneously, a robust social-democratic left with no direct ties to the former communist party played a major role in Czech politics. The Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), originally founded in 1878,having been the largest or second-largest party in the country for over a decade. However, in the broader European context of left-wing decline and the rise of anti-establishment populist challengers, both parties have experienced sharp electoral downturns. In the 2021 elections, KSČM lost its parliamentary representation, a fate shared by ČSSD, now renamed Sociální Demokracie (SOCDEM), which faces an even deeper crisis. These setbacks occurred alongside the rise of new populist forces such as ANO and Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD), which have drawn support from traditional centre-left constituencies. Despite these challenges, both parties remain politically active, with KSČM experiencing a modest revival under a more nationalist-conservative orientation. In light of this context, this paper has two primary aims. First, it traces the electoral decline of KSČM and SOCDEM over the past decade by analyzing election results and party positioning. Second, it explores how party elites interpret the crisis and identify potential sources of resilience. Methodologically, the study combines quantitative data with qualitative interviews and party document analysis. Overall, it contributes to understanding the crisis and transformation of the Czech left within the recent political landscape, as well as its implications for the broader crisis of the left in Eastern Europe.
