Children’s nutrition from the perspective of parents: A qualitative research
This article presents the research results of a qualitative study on children’s nutrition from the perspective of parents. The research question I started from was the following: In what way do parents contribute to the construction of their children’s food consumption behaviors? In order to answer this question, I used a qualitative survey based on 20 interviews conducted using the semi-structured interview technique (Kauffman, 2008). Therefore, in the following, I will analyze in detail the themes that constitute the symbolic universe of parents regarding children’s food consumption, as I discovered them following the research interviews. Likewise, each thematic category will be theoretically anchored with the aim of building a sociological explanation both for the way parents construct their representation of children’s food consumption, and for the existence of their food consumption practices
The social construction of the actor’s career: Challenging the myth of innate talent in artistic becoming
Identity is understood as a set of ideas and roles embedded within the individual self, representing a social construct based on learning processes and the assimilation of specific behaviors. Identity is not a “given”, but rather a trajectory of becoming. This study aims to investigate the process of constructing the social career of theatre actors, analyzing how individuals build their professional and social identity around this occupation. The research is based on a sociological investigation conducted through semi-structured interviews with thirteen participants. The central question is: “How does a person undergo the process of becoming a performing artist?”. The main objective is to identify and describe the stages through which an individual becomes an actor, both in terms of professional trajectory and in relation to the processes of socialization and recognition within the artistic field. The study is grounded in social career theory, offering a sociological interpretation of how individual experiences and institutional structures contribute to identity formation. The results indicate that the professional trajectory of actors follows a structured process, thereby demystifying the romantic perception of the innate artist and talent as a gift. The analysis reveals how artistic identity is constructed through the internalization of institutional norms, transforming individual predispositions into a form of professional competence that is collectively validated. The research data make contributions to the sociology of professions, the study of artistic labor, and theories of identity formation
Experiences and viewpoints of families in the educational integration process of Roma children: The example of Romania and Turkey
In this study, we analyze the hardships and absenteeism levels of Roma children during their educational lives. Based on this analysis, we would like to find out the current integration problems and the factors with a more intensely negative impact. Each phenomenon that plays a key role in this process has been analyzed, and its favorable and unfavorable effects have been assessed. By examining the research results, the aim is to highlight unresolved issues that require further attention and possible solutions to advance children’s educational experiences. Roma children face numerous problems in daily life and in the process of integration into education, such as having to struggle with discrimination, feeling alienated due to cultural incompatibilities, and having difficulties in accessing the education system due to unemployment or the limited income levels of Roma families. Field research in six Turkish provinces (Erzurum, Samsun, Konya, İstanbul Ataşehir, İzmir Bergama, and Hatay) revealed that most Roma children are unable to attend school owing to financial constraints and prefer to work to assist their families (Ertan, 2011: 65). According to the FRA report (2021: 16), an analysis of the school absenteeism of Roma children in European countries indicates that 70 percent of them still drop out of school at a very early age. In this study, comprehensive field research was conducted by interviewing 20 parents in Timişoara, Romania, and 20 parents in Adana and Izmir, Turkey, to examine the subject in greater depth
LA BOUGRIE, LA BULGARIE MÉDIÉVALE, UNE TERRE D’HÉRÉSIES
The word Bogrie in the Occitan language, Bougrie in the Oïl language, Bulgaria in Latin, entered French literature between 1198 and 1213, when Pope Innocent III called for the fourth crusade in the East, this from August 15, 1198, and against the Albigensians, in the West, in 1207-1208. The term is used in French by Robert de Clari and by Geoffroy de Villehardouin in their respective accounts of the conquest of Constantinople in 1204; then in Occitan by William of Tuledo and his anonymous successor in the Canso de la Crosada, the Song of the Albigensian Crusade between 1208 and 1219; and, finally, in Latin, in their chronicles, by Pierre des Vaux de Cernay and by William of Puylaurens, two witnesses of these events. The expression arises again in literature, in France and in Central and Eastern Europe, from 1965. How was “Bougrie”, medieval Bulgaria, evoked in these writings, by historians and writers, as a land of heresies, dissidences, different beliefs and abrupt amalgams
Csaba Szabó, Roman Religion in the Danubian Provinces. Space sacralization and religious communication during the Principate (1st-3rdcentury AD): 2022, Oxford, Oxbow Books Publishing, 312 p, ISBN 1789257840, 9781789257847
Culminând un demers academic riguros și inedit, lucrarea Roman Religion in the Danubian Provinces –Space sacralization and religious communication during the Principate (1st–3rdcentury AD) își consolidează caracterul de referință în studiul sacrului în provinciile dunărene printr-o contextualizare istorică la nivel extra-provincial a unui fenomen complex, prezentat prin prisma unor terorii și ipoteze moderne, explicate într-o manieră plăcută și accesibilă
TRANSFORMATIONAL OR INFORMATIONAL HOLIDAYS? AN ANALYSIS OF THE MESSAGE STRATEGIES FOR TECHNOLOGY BRANDS IN ROMANIA
In today’s digital landscape, social media platforms, particularly Facebook, play a pivotal role in shaping consumer-brand interactions, especially in high-interest sectors such as the smartphone market in Romania. This study investigates which message strategies are associated with higher levels of user engagement on the Facebook pages of two leading smartphone brands, Samsung and Xiaomi. The research explores the dynamics between messaging strategies (informational and transformational) and user engagement, providing insights into the digital advertising strategies adopted by these brands during the crucial holiday shopping season. The findings suggest that the informational dimension, notably ration message strategy, generated different types of engagement. In particular, ration led to higher levels of sharing than ego. Furthermore, regarding reactions, ration resulted in greater engagement than ego, routine and sensory. This research contributes to understanding digital consumer engagement and provides valuable insights for marketers seeking to optimize social media strategies in the competitive smartphone market.
DEFINITENESS IN TUNISIAN ARABIZI: SOME DATA FROM STATISTICAL APPROACHES
We present a statistical analysis of the realization of definiteness in Tunisian Arabic (TA) texts written in Arabizi, a hybrid system reflecting some features of TA phonetics (assimilation), but also showing orthographic features, as the use of arithmographs. In §1, we give an overview of definiteness in TA from a semantic and syntactic point of view. In §2 we outline a typology of definite articles and show that TA normally marks definiteness with articles or similar devices, but also presents zero-markings or weak definites. In §3 we discuss TA and how definiteness is instantiated in TA. In §4, we present data from the Tunisian Arabizi Corpus (TAC), a multidisciplinary work with a hybrid approach based on dialectological questions, corpus linguistics standards, and deep learning techniques. In §5 we define the behavior of TA with respect to what we observed in §1, §2 and §3, describing our TAC-based analysis
PHONETIC ADAPTATION OF ARABIC LOANWORDS IN THE DOBRUJAN TATAR
As indicated by the title, this study deals with the phonetic adaptation of the Arabic loanwords in the Dobrujan Tatar. This Turkic variety possesses a large number of Arabic lexical borrowings due to the fact that Arabic is the language of the Quran, a language of high prestige for Muslims. Arabic, as a donor language, is closely related to the spread of the Islamic religion among the Turkic populations. Several phonological processes in Dobrujan Tatar apply with regard to the adaptation of lexical borrowings from Arabic
KRITERIEN DER EVALUIERUNG VON ÜBERSETZUNGEN
For to define something as a "translation error" and, if necessary, to sanction it, a reference point is needed. Here the three dimensions of signs in use according to the Organon model of language (BÜHLER 1934) can be usefully applied: referent – symbol – symptom. This means that when analyzing a translation, violations of the idiomatic target linguistic system may first be identified: orthography, syntax, semantics, stylistics, coherence. These five areas can be critically analyzed even without comparing them with the original, andit becomes already clear at this stage whether the text has been fully understood.Once the translation has been assessed on the basis of the five internal linguistic aspects of the text, certain so-called "manipulations" in the target text may be observed as changes to the text in comparison with the original, which can be traced back to a deliberate orunconscious decision by the translator from a text-external perspective. Certain passages might be considered inappropriate for the target recipients. This can hardly be labelled an "error", as there is no reference point for what would be "correct". Such areas oftranslational deviation from literalness include functional purpose, a particular political ideology, a time-bound interpretation, formal associations of words, or artistic adaptation.
FUNKTIONALE ÜBERSETZUNG ODER REPRODUKTION? EINE UNTERSUCHUNG ZUR ÜBERSETZUNG VON NAMEN IN DEN DONALD DUCK COMICS INS DEUTSCHE UND RUMÄNISCHE
This paper examines the challenge of translating culturally specific anthroponyms and toponyms, and the decisions that translators must make in such cases. The paper analyses the methods used in the translation of these terms into German and Romanian, and the procedures employed by translators. Both the anthroponyms and the toponyms in the popular American comic series being studied have a culturally specific reference in the source texts, and thus contribute to the creation of local colour
