Tutkimusta on rahoittanut Svenska Kulturfonden. Vastaajilta kysyttiin, missä määrin he tunsivat itsensä suomenruotsalaisiksi ja kuinka ylpeitä, iloisia tai häpeissään he olivat suomenruotsalaisuudestaan. This study charted the identity of Swedish-speaking Finns and their opinions on various aspects of everyday life, such as politics and society, the use of mass media, values, and the sense of belonging. The study was funded by the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland (Svenska kulturfonden). The first questions revolved around language. The respondents' and their families' Finnish and Swedish language skills were surveyed. It was examined whether the respondents had used Swedish, Finnish or both in different types of contexts, e.g. at home, at school, with friends, and at work. After this, the respondents were asked about their identity as a Finland-Swede, and how proud, glad or ashamed they felt being someone from the Swedish-speaking minority. Views on native speakers of different languages in Finland were also probed. The survey also charted the respondents' trust in different organisations such as the government, the church, social services, the universities, the police, and daycare services. The next questions concerned the respondents' political orientation. It was queried which party the respondents would vote for if the parliamentary elections were held at the time of the survey, how they thought different institutions' and groups' influence on society had changed, and which political topics they deemed important in the upcoming 2007 parliamentary elections. It was queried whether the respondents had voted in the 2003 parliamentary elections, and which parties had acted on their personal political concerns. They were also asked to evaluate a set of attitudinal statements about the Swedish-speaking minority in regard to politics. The next questions concerned media, the press, radio, and television. The respondents' preferred newspapers, radio stations and television channels were surveyed, as well as their internet use, and they were also asked to grade a variety of TV channels and radio stations and their programming. After this, the respondents' values and beliefs were examined with questions regarding their trust in different groups of people and people in general, and if the respondents believed in e.g. God, life after dead, and telepathy. Questions were also asked regarding the Diocese of Borgå, Finland's only Swedish-speaking diocese. Finally, the respondents' activity in different types of associations and the local parish was examined. They were asked to log their activity in associations and parishes for two weeks, and it was also queried whether their residential area offered these types of activities sufficiently. Background variables included, for instance, region of residence, age group, gender, education level, economic activity and occupational status, marital status, and household composition

Tutkimuksessa pyrittiin selvittämään kolmen eri toimenpiteen vaikutuksia äitiyshuoltoon Kiinan maaseudulla. Katettiin osa äitiyden kustannuksista (1), kätilöille annettiin lisäkoulutusta kliinisessä osaamisessa (2) sekä annettiin terveydenhuollon lisäkoulutusta kätilöille ja kylän lääkäreille (3). Tutkimusta on rahoittanut Euroopan komissio (CHIMACA 015396). Äideiltä kysyttiin, missä he synnyttivät ja kotisynnyttäjiltä lisäksi, miksi he synnyttivät kotona. This study examined the effects of three maternity service practices in the countryside of China. These practices were (1) covering some of the costs of maternity, (2) added training to midwives in terms of clinical competence, and (3) added healthcare training to midwives and village doctors. The study was funded by the European Commission (CHIMACA 015396). The questions covered the costs of pregnancy and maternity and the financial support/benefits received, previous pregnancies and the number of children, duration of the pregnancy and working during pregnancy. It was also asked if the respondents had visited a doctor or a midwife due to the pregnancy, and, if they had visited a city hospital, who had directed them to the hospital. Further questions examined what sort of matters were discussed during these visits and whether the respondent had used a maternity card. The mothers were asked where their child(ren) had been delivered and if someone helped with the delivery. Home birthers were asked why they had given birth at home. Further questions examined the delivery procedure (c-section/vaginal birth/assisted). The respondents were also asked how long they had spent in the hospital before and after birth. Finally, the respondents were asked how and where post-natal maternity care was handled and what sort of matters were discussed. Background variables included the age of the child's parents, education level, occupation and region

The data examined the well-being of Finnish schoolchildren in grades four to six. The themes of the survey included school conditions, social relations, possibilities of self-actualisation and state of health. The questions were presented as attitudinal statements and multiple-choice questions. The statements were evaluated on the scale "agree"/"neither agree nor disagree"/"disagree". Questions charting conditions at the school covered school facilities and activities. The respondents were asked, for instance, about satisfaction with the classroom's size and temperature, the school's toilet facilities as well as the cleanliness and safety of the school buildings and yard areas. They were also asked to evaluate if it was possible to work in peace in the classroom, if the amount of schoolwork was appropriate, and if it was easy to get to visit the school nurse. Some statements examined social relations between classmates as well as between the pupils and the teacher, along with parents' attitudes toward studying. The respondents were asked, for example, if groupwork was successful, if classmates offered help, if teachers were friendly, and if parents helped with homework and participated in parent-teacher meetings. It was also charted whether the respondents had been bullied at school during the current semester and whether they had themselves bullied someone. Some questions pertained to self-actualisation. These questions covered e.g. whether teachers listened to the respondents' opinions, if pupils' opinions were taken into consideration in the school's decision-making, whether the respondents took care of their school duties, if they were thanked for good work, if they felt that school is important and whether they received help from the teacher when needed. Questions concerning the respondents' general health examined if they had suffered from a variety of symptoms during the current school term (e.g. stomach pains, difficulty falling asleep or waking up at night, headaches, feeling sad, fears). Background variables included gender, age and grade

Työolobarometrit selvittävät suomalaisen työelämän laatua palkansaajien näkökulmasta. Vuoden 2016 työolobarometri käsitteli mm. henkilöstössä ja työnkuvassa tapahtuneita muutoksia, vaikutusmahdollisuuksia, sosiaalisen median käyttöä työssä, syrjintää, työpaikkaväkivaltaa, työkykyä sekä työntekijöiden näkemyksiä omasta työtilanteesta ja työelämän kehityksestä. Työolobarometrien sisällöistä pääosa on pidetty samanlaisina eri vuosina. Työolobarometrissa on hyödynnetty työvoimatutkimuksen (Tilastokeskus 2016) taustamuuttujia. Taustamuuttujina olivat muun muassa sukupuoli, ikä, koulutusaste, ammattiasema, työnantajatyyppi, alue, työn koko- tai osa-aikaisuus, työpaikan toimiala, ylityön määrä, työsuhteen laatu ja sosioekonominen asema. The annual survey studied employee opinion on the quality of working life in Finland. Main themes included organisation of work, development opportunities and flexibility, learning and training at work, wages, workplace bullying, capacity to work, and changes in working life. Questions in the barometer have mainly remained the same each year. The 2016 collection round included new questions regarding automation at work, the flexibility of work and free time, and dividing work tasks between employees. First, the respondents were asked about the number of people employed at their workplace, changes in the number of staff, distribution of work and tasks, and implementation of new working methods and systems over the past 12 months. Satisfaction in the working environment was charted with questions about openness, encouragement and equality in the workplace, job stability, and opportunities for employees to develop and apply new ideas. Further questions covered measures taken to improve employees' capacity to work, safety of work environment, and skills of employees. Discrimination at work based on ethnic group, age, gender, type of job contract, and health status was explored. Incidents of bullying, harassment and violence at work were surveyed. The next set of questions investigated the respondents' membership in a trade union or professional association, flexible working time arrangements at the workplace, pay and bonus systems, and satisfaction with the pay level. The respondents' participation in job-related training and the development of the workplace was investigated. The use of virtual workspaces and social media services such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs as part of work tasks was charted. Autonomy at work was surveyed by asking about influence over the respondents' own work tasks and working pace, over the distribution of work in the workplace, and about working on a tight schedule. The respondents were asked about working outside the main workplace in the past 12 months and work-related emails they had had to tend to outside their official working hours. One set of questions investigated the employees' perceived workload, capacity to work, estimates of own mental and physical capacity to work, and sickness absences. The respondents were asked how likely they thought it was that they would be dismissed or laid off, or that their tasks would change over the next year. Views were probed on the respondents' likelihood of getting an equal job if they became unemployed, on the general employment situation in Finland, possible changes in working life in general, and the employer's financial situation. Finally, the respondents were asked how often they felt a community spirit at work, received appreciation from colleagues and partners, were able to fully utilise their professional skills, and had time to come up with new ideas. Background variables from the Labour Force Survey 2016 were utilised in the Finnish Working Life Barometer. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's year of birth, age, gender, region, type of municipality, education, economic activity, status in employment, industry of employment, occupational group, employer type, type of contract, weekly working hours, overtime, and additional jobs

Toimittajaopiskelijatutkimus on osa kansainvälistä vertailututkimusta "Journalism Students Across the Globe (JSG)", joka toistetaan samanlaisena yli 30 eri maassa. Suomessa tehtyyn tutkimukseen valittiin mukaan kuusi toimittajia kouluttavaa korkeakoulua, joissa opinnoista valmistuminen antaa opiskelijoille valmiudet sijoittua erilaisiin journalistisiin työtehtäviin. Kansainvälisen vertailun tarkoituksena on esimerkiksi selvittää, kuinka kulttuurisidonnaisia tulevaisuuden toimittajien käsitykset ammattiroolistaan ovat. Ammattiin liittyvien roolikäsitysten lisäksi tutkimus käsittelee muun muassa opiskelijoiden eettisiä näkemyksiä, laatujournalismia uhkaavia tekijöitä sekä alan tulevaisuutta. Suomen tutkimuksen on rahoittanut Helsingin Sanomain Säätiö. The Journalism Students' Survey 2015 was part of an international comparative study entitled Journalism Students Across the Globe (JSG), which was conducted simultaneously in more than 30 countries. In Finland, six educational institutions that provide studies in journalism were selected to participate. International comparisons enable, among others, to examine how organizational and cultural influences affect the future journalists' views of their occupation. The Finnish study was funded by the Helsingin Sanomat Foundation. The respondents were first asked what their preferred field (e.g. journalism, advertising, research) was after studies, where they wanted to work (e.g. newspaper, television, radio, freelancer), and how interested they were in specialising in different areas (e.g. politics, sports, science). Work experience (including internship) in journalism was surveyed. The respondents were also asked what had motivated them to study their degree and how important they considered various functions of the media in their future work. Opinions on the overall performance of different types of media was charted as well as major problems facing quality journalism in Finland. Regarding ethical standards, the respondents were asked whether they thought certain ethically problematic courses of action could be justified or not when covering a news story. Concerning journalism and communication education in Finland, the respondents were requested to assess the quality of academic training and asked whether they thought it necessary for a good journalist to have studied journalism at university level. Finally, the respondents' media use was investigated. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, age, university/polytechnic, year of study, and interest in politics as well as the economic conditions of R's childhood family, and whether R wanted to pursue a career as a journalist

The survey charted the career and employment situation of people who had graduated from Finnish universities with a lower (BA/BSc or equivalent) or higher (MA/MSc or equivalent) degree in 2009. The survey was conducted five years after graduation. The first part investigated the respondents' education and work history. They were asked whether they had, after graduation, participated in job-related training, career guidance or had studied for or completed any additional professional qualification or higher education degree. Further questions covered the number of employers, number of separate employment contracts and offices, whether the respondents had been entrepreneurs, self-employed or freelancers and for how long, or whether they had been outside the labour market because of a family leave. Periods of unemployment, obstacles to getting a job (e.g. lack of experience, challenging labour market situation in the field, gender), and employment situation at the time of graduation were investigated. Those who had not been employed at the time of graduation were asked how long it had taken to get their first job. Characteristics of the first job after graduation were surveyed, including contract type, employer type, and type of work. The respondents were also asked whether the first job had required an academic degree, whether it had been commensurate with their qualification, and to what extend they had been able to utilise knowledge and skills gained during their university studies. The next section focused on the respondents' current employment situation. Questions covered the type of main employer, type of work, monthly gross wage income, whether they could utilise the knowledge and skills gained during their university studies, whether the job was commensurate with their level of education, and if not, why they had accepted the job. The respondents were presented with a number of statements relating to their job and e.g. whether their work was in line with their career goals and whether they found their work mentally stressful. The respondents with fixed-term contracts were asked why their contract was fixed-term. The survey also explored the respondents' satisfaction with their degree and studies. Questions covered satisfaction with the degree from the point of view of career, how important certain skills and know-how were in the respondents' current job and how well their studies had developed these skills. The skills mentioned included, for instance, theoretical or practical knowledge of their field, problem solving, managerial skills, negotiation skills, project management, and communication in English. It was also surveyed which of these skills the respondents deemed the most important in the future. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age at the time of graduation (categorised), the university they attended and information on the degree (field of study, number of credits required for the degree, degree level)

Aineistoa on kerätty kolmella erilaisella kyselylomakkeella riippuen oppilaitoksesta. Data muokattiin arkistossa pääasiassa peruskoulujen kyselylomakkeen mukaiseksi, sillä peruskoulujen vastauksia on datassa eniten. This study examined safety and security in Finnish schools as well as preparedness for safety disturbances and detrimental behaviour in the school environment. The respondents of the survey were rectors and vice rectors in Finnish primary and upper secondary schools. The study was commissioned and funded by the Institute of Criminology and Legal Policy at the University of Helsinki. Three different questionnaires were used to collect the data depending on the type of the institution (primary school, upper secondary school, combined primary and upper secondary school). The data were processed according to the questionnaire for primary schools because primary schools constituted the majority of responses, but variables specific to a certain type of institution are indicated in the data. First, the study charted background information concerning e.g. class sizes in the school, how long the respondent had worked for the school, which grades were taught in the school, and how many times during a given day students had to switch from one classroom to another. It was also queried whether a school social worker, a school psychologist and a school nurse/doctor visited the school at least once per week. The next questions covered the school environment with questions regarding whether a variety of phenomena occurred near the school premises, e.g. panhandling, littering, drug use/sale or vandalism. It was also charted which services and locations were found within 500 metres of the school building as well as what sort of security personnel worked at the school during and outside school hours. The respondents were also asked whether syringes or other items relating to drug use had been found on school premises during the school year 2015-2016. The next questions pertained to whether the school had adopted specific security-increasing practices, such as camera surveillance, access control in school buildings, personal user accounts and passwords for computers, restricted access to internet sites, anti-bullying campaigns, and collaboration with the police. It was also queried what sort of punishments the school used for student misbehaviour (e.g. removing a student from class, teacher-parent discussion, detention or expulsion). Next, incidents of criminal behaviour against the school and the school building were examined (e.g. intentional damage to school or staff property, breaking and entering into school premises, arson or attempted arson, harm to information systems). It was also asked if any crimes had been reported to the police and what the monetary extent of intentional damage to school property had been during the school year 2015-2016. Cases of defamation, violence or threat of violence against personnel were charted, as well as how many days staff members had spent absent from work due to these crimes during the school year 2015-2016. Different crimes against students were also charted, such as bicycle and cellphone thefts and violence, as well as whether these cases were reported to the police. Further questions were asked about the perpetrators and victims of violent crimes, such as their gender and national background, and whether the crime was motivated by e.g. skin colour or sexual orientation. Next, the study surveyed whether students or other persons had brought dangerous items, such as knives or other weapons, into school premises during school hours and whether the school had reported these incidents to the police. Certain phenomena, such as racism among students and between students and teachers, were also charted. General threats of violence not against any particular person were also examined as well as whether there was any sign that the maker of the threat would have been preparing to carry out the act. The respondents were also asked if the school had carried out different surveillance and security measures during the school year 2015-2016 (e.g. searching students' bags, clothes or lockers; confiscating dangerous items, alcohol or drugs) and whether these measures had prevented an act or threat of violence or if they had caused a threatening situation. Finally, it was queried whether any students or their parents had threatened the respondent or teachers with legal action or reported a crime to the police where the respondent or teachers were accused. In addition, the respondents' preparedness to report a student's crime to the police in two hypothetical situations was examined (a student paints a graffiti on the school's wall; a student hits another student in the face, causing bruises and bleeding from the nose). The study finally surveyed some more background information on e.g. gender, age, and how many years the respondent had worked as rector or vice rector
