Vanhemmista kysyttiin syntymävuodet, ovatko vanhemmat vastaajan biologisia vanhempia, millaisena vastaaja pitää heidän taloudellista tilannettaan, kuinka kaukana he asuvat ja millaiseksi vastaajat arvioivat heidän terveydentilansa. The study charted contacts of Finnish baby boomers' adult children with relatives and friends as well as giving and receiving help. The study was funded by the Academy of Finland (project id 250620) and Alli Paasikivi Foundation. FSD's holdings also include data on baby boomers collected in the same research project (FSD3255). First, the respondents were asked whether they kept up their health and whether they suffered from a long-term illness or a permanent injury. They were asked whether they considered themselves happy, if they considered religion important in their lives, and whether they had participated in charity or voluntary work within the previous year. Next, the number and gender of the respondents' children were enquired. The birth year of the respondents' and their spouses' parents was charted as well as whether the parents were still alive. More questions were asked regarding the respondents' and their spouses' living parents, such as how far away they lived, how the respondents perceived their state of health and financial circumstances, and how often they had been in contact within the previous year. They were also asked how close they were, whether they had had conflicts, and how often within the previous year the respondents had provided their own or their spouses' parents with practical or financial help. It was also enquired how often the parents had babysat the respondents' children or provided them with different kinds of help, and if the respondents had felt the need to restrict their parents ability to contact the respondents' children. Similar questions were also asked about siblings: how many brothers and sisters the respondents had, when they were born, whether they all shared the same parents, how far away they lived, how the respondents perceived their financial circumstances, how often they had been in contact, whether they had had conflicts, and whether they had received and provided help. It was also asked whether the respondents felt that their parents had treated all siblings equally, whether the siblings had children, whether they had babysat the respondents' children, and how often the respondents had been in contact with their siblings' children or provided them with financial help. Next, similar questions were asked about grandparents: whether they were alive, when they were born, and how often the respondents had contacted them within the previous year. Frequency of contacting other relatives, such as aunts and uncles, and friends during the previous year was also examined as well as whether they had babysat the respondents' children or provided practical or financial help, and whether the respondents themselves had provided such help to these people. The respondents were also asked how many close friends they perceived to have and how many relatives they considered 'close'. Attitudinal statements examined the respondents' views on whether grandparents have the responsibility to babysit their grandchildren, to advance grandchildren's and their families' financial security, and to take care of grandchildren if parents are not able to, as well as whether it is natural for daughters to take more responsibility than sons in caring for their aged parents, and whether children have the responsibility to take their parents to live with them when they are no longer able to live independently. Finally, the respondents were asked how responsibility should be shared between society and family concerning financial support to the elderly, helping the elderly with everyday chores, and caring for the elderly, and the respondents' opinions on giving and receiving help was charted with regard to whether they expected to be helped themselves in the future when providing help to others, whether they only provided help to those relatives or friends that they liked, and whether friends and relatives demanded too much of the respondents. Background variables included, among others, gender, marital status, own and spouse's birth year, economic activity (own and spouse's), education (own and spouse's), household composition, net monthly income, and perceived financial status

Vastaajilta kysyttiin, miten he osallistuvat tilastotietojen keruuseen seurakunnassa ja mistä he etsivät tietoa seurakuntien toiminnasta ja taloudesta. The study charted the use of statistics in church development as well as the availability and usability of statistics on church activities and membership. Tutkimuksessa tutkittiin yli 75-vuotiaiden ikäihmisten kokemuksista palveluista ja tarpeista. Tutkimus toteutettiin Jyväskylässä ja Tampereella. Tutkimuksen rahoittajana toimi Suomen Akatemia. The survey examined the needs and experiences of Finnish seniors aged over 75 concerning different types of services. The study was conducted in the cities of Jyväskylä and Tampere, and the study was funded by the Academy of Finland. First, the respondents' housing circumstances were charted as well as how frequently the respondents were in contact with their relatives and friends. They were enquired about difficulties in everyday life and who provided them with help regarding these difficulties (e.g. transportation, groceries, banking, cooking meals, going to the bathroom). Different types of assistive devices used by the respondents were also examined (e.g. cane, crutches, wheelchair, hearing aid, medical alert button). The respondents were also asked to assess the sufficiency of help received as well as reasons for not receiving sufficient help. Additionally, it was charted whether the respondents themselves provided different types of help or care to a relative or friend. The respondents' views were also enquired on the development of social welfare and health care services within the previous ten years. Different types of services used by the respondents (e.g. meals, cleaning, sauna/bathing, assistive devices, transportation) were examined with regard to who provided these services to the respondents and whether the respondents were satisfied with their cost, reliability and quality. The respondents were also asked how they funded the use of these services and what their reasons were for using or not using private services. Opinions on whether some types of services should be provided more were also charted. Finally, the respondents' state of health was examined by asking them about possible diseases, disabilities, and memory difficulties. Background variables included gender, age, marital status, type of neighbourhood, household composition, number of living children (sons and daughters), number of living siblings, education, and household income

Aineistossa on haastateltu Unkarin aikuiskoulutussektorin koulutushenkilöstöä, jotka työskentelevät haavoittuvassa asemassa olevien nuorten aikuisten kanssa. Haastatteluissa käsitellään organisaatioiden nuorille aikuisille suunnattujen koulutusohjelmien tai muun toiminnan sisältöjä, pedagogisia lähestymistapoja, sukupuolten välistä tasa-arvoa ja vaikuttavuutta sekä nuorten koulutuspolkuja, elämänhallintaa, sosiaalisia ongelmia, sosioekonomista asemaa ja aktiivista kansalaisuutta. Haastattelut ovat unkariksi. Aineisto on kymmenen haastattelun otos Unkarissa kerätyistä haastatteluista, ja se on kerätty osana Euroopan laajuista EduMAP-hankketta (Adult Education as a Means to Active Participatory Citizenship). Aineistosta on tehty html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla haastatteluja on helppo selata. This dataset includes interviews with educational personnel and policy-makers in the adult education sector in Hungary working with vulnerable young adults. The interviews discuss contents of study programmes provided by the organisation, pedagogical approaches, gender equality, life management, social problems, socioeconomic status, and active participatory citizenship. The dataset is a ten-interview sample of the interviews collected in Hungary for the Europe-wide EduMAP project (Adult Education as a Means to Active Participatory Citizenship). FSD's holdings also include data collected in the nine other EduMAP countries in their respective languages (the United Kingdom, Turkey, Spain, Romania, Latvia, Greece, Germany, Finland and Estonia). The EduMAP project was funded by the European Commission's "Horizon 2020" research and innovation programme (ID: 693388). Different interview schemes were used for interviews with educational personnel and educational authorities. In the interviews with educational personnel, the first questions concerned the interviewee's job responsibilities, practices in the organisation, and the types of vulnerable learners with whom the interviewee worked. Teaching practices were discussed as well as special education available at the organisation, the students' economic situation, and the concept of active participatory citizenship. Regarding the organisation's practices, the interviewees were asked about, for instance, the work processes for designing new educational programmes, pedagogical approaches, and learning/teaching methods that they had deemed particularly appropriate for vulnerable learners. Many facets of the organisation's practices were discussed in terms of gender, i.e. how possible gender differences were taken into consideration in teaching. Pedagogical details of the programmes were discussed in more detail with regard to, for instance, learning and teaching methods, contents of lessons, teaching processes, and the students' possibility of giving and receiving feedback. The interviewees were also asked what types of competences educational professionals working with vulnerable learners possess or should possess. Finally, the interviews examined the impact of the programmes from socioeconomic and sociocultural perspectives as well as the perspective of social activity and legal-political awareness. Attendance and graduation rates were also charted as well as suggestions for the improvement of the programmes. The final questions concerned collaboration and networking with other institutions. The interviews with educational authorities and policy-makers focused more on the national influence in educational policy, i.e. developing and implementing policies and legislation regarding vulnerable groups. In addition, these interviews discussed e.g. consulting representatives of vulnerable groups in developing policies, achievements and shortcomings of current educational policies, and the most important issues faced by vulnerable groups that should be taken into consideration in developing policies. Background information includes interview id, employment field and job description. The dataset is only available in Hungarian. Questionnaires and participant information sheets are only available in English. The data were organised into an HTML index at FSD

The study charted views and notions of violence in Finland. The interview participants shared their opinions on safety in their neighbourhood and Finland in general. They were also asked where they searched for and received information on violent crime and which media sources they considered reliable. Four focus groups were formed with the goal of having as different media users as possible: people involved in harness racing, elderly women's arts and crafts club, young men working for the Defence Forces and 20-year-old university students. The study also examined the effect of the group's age and gender distribution on the fear of violence and the discussion about it. Group size varied from three to eleven participants, and there were 24 participants in total. The data contain transcribed group interviews and they were collected as a part of a project entitled 'Views of Violence in a Changing Media Landscape', funded by the Helsingin Sanomat Foundation (grant ID: 201600122). The dataset is only available in Finnish

Juomatapatutkimus 2016 kartoittaa suomalaisten alkoholin ja muiden päihteiden käyttöä, juomistilanteita, kulutettuja määriä, käytön seurauksia ja alkoholiin liittyviä asenteita. Tutkimuksia on tehty kahdeksan vuoden välein vuodesta 1968 alkaen. The Finnish Drinking Habits Survey 2016 charted alcohol use, use of other substances, drinking occasions, consumed quantities of alcohol, consequences of alcohol use and attitudes toward alcohol in Finland. Some questions also covered gambling. The Finnish Drinking Habits Surveys have been conducted in intervals of eight years beginning from 1968; FSD's holdings include datasets from 2008 and 2016. The data comprise three parts: the 'main data' collected with face-to-face interviews, background variables obtained from registers (gender and year of birth), and data collected with a self-administered drop-off questionnaire. Of the 2016 study, FSD's holdings also include separate datasets concerning drinking occasions and abstaining occasions (FSD3313 and FSD3314). First, the respondents' alcohol use and attitudes toward alcohol were charted with attitudinal statements regarding responsible alcohol use, getting intoxicated, and using alcohol in the presence of children. It was also charted which, if any, types of alcoholic drinks the respondents had consumed within the previous 12 months, at which age they consumed an alcoholic beverage for the first time, and at which age they were intoxicated for the first time. The data include a constructed variable b27 which defines the respondents as either alcohol users or non-drinkers. Alcohol consumption and motives for using alcohol were examined in detail. The respondents were asked to estimate how often they had consumed different quantities of alcohol within a period of one day during the previous 12 months. Questions also covered the type of drinks consumed, e.g. beer, cider, wine, and spirits. It was also charted how often the respondents drank beer or wine with meals, and how often they consumed enough alcohol to feel inebriated. Consequences of consuming alcohol were examined with questions pertaining to drinking problems, controlling consumption, reactions of the people around, and the respondents' own relationship with alcohol use. The relationship of non-drinkers with alcohol was also charted, as well as their reasons for not consuming alcohol. Attitudinal statements presented to the respondents concerned religious beliefs, health, principles, fears, wellbeing, and spending time and money. Questions were also asked regarding other people's attitudes toward the respondents' abstinence, and whether they had previously used alcohol. All respondents were asked whether they had brought or ordered alcoholic beverages from abroad during the previous 12 months, and how many liters. They were also asked questions regarding risks caused by alcohol use on health and other aspects of life as well as where they got their information on the health effects of alcohol. Consequences of other people's alcohol use were charted with regard to how often during the previous 12 months the respondents had been harassed or physically attacked by intoxicated people or otherwise felt threatened in public or private spaces. In addition, the respondents were asked to estimate whether any of their close relatives or acquaintances had problems with alcohol and to what extent their alcohol use had affected the respondents' lives during the previous year. One question group also covered gambling, gambling frequency and possible problems caused by gambling. With regard to health, the respondents were enquired about their state of health, loneliness, overall satisfaction with life, and close relationships with other people. The respondents' weight was also charted as well as cigarette, e-cigarette and snus use. The interview data also contain information regarding the duration, location and reliability of the responses. The additional questionnaire included the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) as well as questions regarding the use of narcotic substances. The AUDIT measured, for instance, how often the respondents consumed alcoholic beverages and how many drinks, how often they could not stop drinking once they had started, how often they had failed to do what was normally expected because of drinking, or had feelings of guilt or remorse after drinking. It was also asked whether relatives or friends, doctors or other health workers had been concerned about their drinking or suggested cutting down on drinking. Questions were also asked concerning using medicinal drugs for non-medicinal purposes, poly drug use, and use of narcotic substances such as cannabis, amphetamine, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine and ecstasy. The data also contain respondent-level aggregate variables on alcohol use concerning drinking frequency and annual consumption, such as Quantity-Frequency (QF) and Graduated Frequency (GF) measures. Background variables included gender, year of birth, marital status, education, economic activity and occupational status, socio-economic status, and household composition

Themes of the Finnish Youth Survey 2017 included learning and education. Questions charted experiences of learning in and outside of school. First, the respondents' views on learning, life skills and education were examined with attitudinal statements concerning, for instance, the significance of general knowledge and practical life skills, the importance of receiving feedback, evaluating the trustworthiness of information sources, the impact of education on employment, and Swedish as an obligatory subject in school. The respondents were asked to estimate the extent to which they had learned different skills at school and outside of school, for example, general knowledge, language skills, creativity, internationality, tolerance, decision-making abilities, social skills, media skills, financial knowledge, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, the respondents' views on the significance of these same skills for faring well in life were charted. Next, the respondents were presented with attitudinal statements according to which they evaluated their own time in comprehensive school and whether school had been enjoyable, e.g. with regard to their social relations with teachers and other pupils. In addition, the respondents were asked to estimate the effect of different factors on employment (e.g. talent, persistence, family background, residential location, chance). They were also asked whether they participated in the activities of any organisation or civic movement that aimed to influence society. The respondents' sense of belonging to their school or work community as well as the Finnish society more generally was examined. Finally, they were asked how meaningful they considered their daily lives and to what extent they felt that their lives had a sense of management, what sort of effects a possible lack of money had caused in their lives, whether they trusted other people, and how satisfied they were with their relationships and their lives in general. Background variables included gender, age, municipality of residence (categorised), years R had lived in current municipality of residence, how many times R had moved or switched schools, mother tongue (categorised), type of residence, household composition, R's and parents' country of birth (categorised), year of moving to Finland, parents' educational level, and perceived financial situation of the household. Some background variables also asked detailed questions regarding, for instance, employment, studies, motivations for studying, and quitting studies

Aineisto on kymmenen haastattelun otos Iso-Britanniassa kerätyistä haastatteluista, ja se on kerätty osana Euroopan laajuista EduMAP-hankketta (Adult Education as a Means to Active Participatory Citizenship). This dataset includes interviews with educational personnel and policy-makers in the adult education sector in the United Kingdom working with vulnerable young adults. The interviews discuss contents of study programmes provided by the organisation, pedagogical approaches, gender equality, life management, social problems, socioeconomic status, and active participatory citizenship. The dataset is a ten-interview sample of the interviews collected in the United Kingdom for the Europe-wide EduMAP project (Adult Education as a Means to Active Participatory Citizenship). FSD's holdings also include data collected in the nine other EduMAP countries in their respective languages (Finland, Turkey, Spain, Romania, Latvia, Hungary, Greece, Germany and Estonia). Background information includes interview date, id, interviewee sector, gender and region where the organisation is located

The survey was conducted by the Research Foundation for Studies and Education (Otus) in collaboration with the National Union of Vocational Students in Finland (SAKKI), which also funded the study with funding received from the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. Main themes of the survey included applying for studies, experiences relating to studies and teaching, financial circumstances, plans for the future and working life, and wellbeing and leisure time. Relating to studies at the time of the survey, the respondents were asked, among other things, their field of education, year of study, and distance to the vocational institution. They were also asked whether they had moved to another municipality due to their current studies. Earlier studies and applying for vocational studies were examined with questions regarding, for instance, whether vocational studies had been discussed or recommended in their families or at school, whether their friends or siblings had studied in a vocational institution, and how clear the decision to opt for vocational studies had been. They were also asked whether they had worked or completed other studies before starting vocational studies, and how they had performed in earlier education. Experiences of studies and teaching were examined with questions about the time spent on studies in a week, form and sufficiency of the teaching and guidance received, balancing and managing studies, and money spent on study materials. Possible learning difficulties and support received for these difficulties were also surveyed. With regard to study progress, satisfaction with studies and the institution itself was charted as well as feelings of studying the right field, prospects of graduating, things slowing down study progress, and views on the importance of vocational studies. Working, housing and financial circumstances were investigated by asking about working during studies and in the summer, housing during semesters, financial help from parents and relatives, and sufficiency of money for expenses. Concerning occupational life, opinions were probed on a number of statements about employment, employment prospects after graduation, and the importance of various things for a successful career. Future plans to study were also surveyed. Finally, wellbeing and leisure time were examined with questions concerning e.g. friends, social relationships, bullying and discrimination, sleep, alcohol use, hobbies and Internet use. Background variables included the respondent's year of birth (categorised), gender, and mother tongue. The time the respondent had lived in Finland was further charted, along with languages spoken with parents, and parents' employment status and education level

The study examined Finnish researchers' use of different printed and electronic publications in their work, such as scientific journals, articles, books, reports, and social media. The study is part of Carol Tenopir and Donald W. King's survey series launched in 1977 following the reading practices of researchers in different countries and scientific fields. Finnish data have also been collected in 2006 but this dataset has not been archived at the Finnish Social Science Data Archive. The 2016 project was partly funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation. The survey charted researchers' common reading practices as well as publishing of different types of scientific articles and other publications. The way that the respondents' work time was distributed between different types of tasks was charted as well as how many publications of different types they had authored within the previous two years. It was also examined how researchers searched for information, published scientific work, and cited the work of others. Questions also covered how much time the respondents spent on reading articles, how many scientific articles and other types of publications they had read within the previous 30 days, how recent the publications that they read were, reasons for reading them, what language they were in, how they found the publications and received access, where they read the publications, which scientific field the publications represented, and how useful they considered different publication formats for their work. The significance of social media was charted with questions regarding, for instance, how important different services and tools were for their work (e.g. blogs, cloud services, institutional repositories, academic online communities, reference management software). The respondents were also asked about how important different features of electronic publications were (e.g. compatibility and readability on different devices, possibility to share publications, advanced navigation features, global language support, possibility to embed audio into publications). Background variables included scientific field, job title, age, and type of workplace
