EduMAP: Interviews with Adult Education Policy-Makers and Personnel on the Social Exclusion of Young Adults 2017-2018: Latvia
Aineisto sisältää seitsemän Latviassa kerättyä haastattelua, ja se on kerätty osana Euroopan laajuista EduMAP-hankketta (Adult Education as a Means to Active Participatory Citizenship). This dataset includes interviews with educational personnel and policy-makers in the adult education sector in Latvia working with vulnerable young adults. The interviews discuss contents of study programmes provided by the organisation, pedagogical approaches, gender equality, life management, social problems, socioeconomic status, and active participatory citizenship. The dataset is a seven-interview sample of the interviews collected in Latvia for the Europe-wide EduMAP project (Adult Education as a Means to Active Participatory Citizenship). FSD's holdings also include data collected in the nine other EduMAP countries in their respective languages (the United Kingdom, Turkey, Spain, Romania, Hungary, Greece, Germany, Finland and Estonia). The EduMAP project was funded by the European Commission's "Horizon 2020" research and innovation programme (ID: 693388). Different interview schemes were used for interviews with educational personnel and educational authorities. In the interviews with educational personnel, the first questions concerned the interviewee's job responsibilities, practices in the organisation, and the types of vulnerable learners with whom the interviewee worked. Teaching practices were discussed as well as special education available at the organisation, the students' economic situation, and the concept of active participatory citizenship. Regarding the organisation's practices, the interviewees were asked about, for instance, the work processes for designing new educational programmes, pedagogical approaches, and learning/teaching methods that they had deemed particularly appropriate for vulnerable learners. Many facets of the organisation's practices were discussed in terms of gender, i.e. how possible gender differences were taken into consideration in teaching. Pedagogical details of the programmes were discussed in more detail with regard to, for instance, learning and teaching methods, contents of lessons, teaching processes, and the students' possibility of giving and receiving feedback. The interviewees were also asked what types of competences educational professionals working with vulnerable learners possess or should possess. Finally, the interviews examined the impact of the programmes from socioeconomic and sociocultural perspectives as well as the perspective of social activity and legal-political awareness. Attendance and graduation rates were also charted as well as suggestions for the improvement of the programmes. The final questions concerned collaboration and networking with other institutions. The interviews with educational authorities and policy-makers focused more on the national influence in educational policy, i.e. developing and implementing policies and legislation regarding vulnerable groups. In addition, these interviews discussed e.g. consulting representatives of vulnerable groups in developing policies, achievements and shortcomings of current educational policies, and the most important issues faced by vulnerable groups that should be taken into consideration in developing policies. The dataset is only available in Latvian. Questionnaires and participant information sheets are only available in English. The data were organised into an HTML index at FSD
Expectations and Experiences of Implementing eHealth Services 2017: Health Professionals 2017
Terveysammattilaisilta kysyttiin, ovatko he saaneet tietoa ODA-palveluista sekä mielipiteitä palvelun käyttöönotosta. Vastaajat arvioivat tulevia ODA-palveluita, niiden vaikutusta omaan ammattirooliinsa sekä yksikön asiakkaisiin. Lisäksi kysyttiin, ovatko vastaajat osallistuneet ODA-palveluiden suunnitteluun. Taustamuuttujina olivat vastaajan sukupuoli, ikäryhmä, ammatti, työskentelypaikka ja pääasiallinen työpaikka. The ODA project in Finland focused on building digital social and health services to support self-care. This survey studied the expectations and experiences of social and health care professionals regarding the digitalised services provided by the project. Most respondents were health professionals working in the municipalities, social and health care areas, and hospital districts participating in the project. Similar data collected from managers/directors are available in FSD3320. The ODA digital services make use of information entered into the system by professionals and of information entered by patients/clients themselves on their personal well-being. For people who are willing to use digitalised services for their own self-care, the services provide well-being check-ups and training, assessment of symptoms and well-being, and care plans for those in need of long-term care or services. ODA is part of the Competent Workforce for the Future (COPE) project, funded by the Academy of Finland. Survey questions investigated whether the respondents felt they had received sufficient information of the future ODA services, their views on the services, expectations of changes service implementation would bring, and how the digital services would affect their work, professional role and patients/clients. Benefits and challenges were estimated, as well as expectations on how the implementation would go in practise. The respondents were also asked whether they had participated in the planning and developing of the services. Background variables included the respondent's age group, gender, occupation, as well as the type of organisation and municipality or district where they worked

Marriage and the Lutheran Church 2017
Kysely kartoitti suomalaisten suhtautumista evankelis-luterilaisen kirkon oikeuteen vihkiä pariskuntia avioliittoon sekä suhtautumista samaa sukupuolta olevien avioliittoon vihkimiseen. Tutkimusta on rahoittanut Kirkkohallitus. This study charted Finnish attitudes toward same-sex marriage and the right of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland to marry couples. The study was funded by the Church Council. First, the respondents were asked whether they were members of the Church or some other religious community. The most important reasons for being a member of the Church were charted (e.g. faith taught by the Church, possibility to be wedded in a church, the Church helps people in third world countries). Further questions examined participation in Church activities as well as possible intentions of resigning from Church. Next, the respondents were presented with a set of attitudinal statements regarding e.g. whether it is important for churches and other religious communities to have the right to marry couples, whether the Evangelical Lutheran Church should start to officiate same-sex marriages following their legalisation in 2017, whether the Church's possible decision to start or to not start officiating same-sex marriages would have an effect on the respondents' relationship with the Church, and whether individual pastors or parishes should have the right to officiate or to not officiate same-sex marriages regardless of the Church's stance on the issue. Finally, the respondents were asked whether their group of friends, relatives or close coworkers included persons who belonged openly to sexual minorities and had personally told the respondents of their sexual orientation. The respondents were also enquired whether they believed in God as well as how often they prayed or read the Bible. Background variables included, for instance, gender, age, region of residence (NUTS2 and NUTS3), educational level, economic activity and occupational status, household composition, ages of children living at home (categorised), gross annual income of the household (categorised), type of residence, employment industry, and political party R voted for in the previous elections
Housing Preferences in New Detached Housing Areas in Rural-Urban Interaction Zones 2013
The survey study charted housing preferences of residents in rural-urban fringe areas of the Finnish towns Kajaani, Oulu, Seinäjoki and Tampere. The study is part of the Academy of Finland's "Future of Living and Housing" (ASU-LIVE) research programme, and the Academy has also funded the study. The first questions examined the respondents' current household composition and type of accommodation, possible holiday home, and whether they have had control over the build materials, plumbing and heating in their accommodation. More detailed questions were asked about the type of heating in the accommodation as well as energy efficiency. Respondents were asked to assess their residential area in terms of overall satisfaction, personal safety, traffic safety, street lighting, peacefulness, closeness to nature, reputation, construction density, and public transport. It was also enquired whether new buildings in the residential area fit in with older buildings and the landscape, as well as whether new housing had made the residential area better in terms of services and public transport, for example. Next, the respondents' work commute distance and duration were charted as well as the mode of transportation to work. Perceived distance and the chosen mode of transportation from home to different types of services was also examined. Satisfaction with traffic infrastructure was examined with questions regarding, for instance, whether it is necessary to own a car in the residential area and whether roads as well as pedestrian and bicycle paths are in good condition. The respondents' rationale for choosing their current residential area was examined extensively with different types of questions and attitudinal statements. They were also asked about the type of residential area that they would live in if they could choose freely. Finally, views on urban and rural life and identity were charted. Background variables included gender, age, household composition, type of accommodation, education, and economic activity

The survey focused on attitudes, opinions and experiences related to gender equality in different spheres of life in Finland. The main focus was on equality in working life, education and family life. Questions investigated opinions on the general status of men and women in Finland, estimates for gender equality development in the following 10 years, whether the respondents thought there should be more men or women in certain positions or occupational fields (e.g. in positions of power, in social and health services, ICT), and whether women's possibilities were equal to men's in occupational life. Attitudes were charted on gender roles in the family in terms of money matters and domestic responsibilities, gender roles in politics and in decision-making in different spheres of politics, and ways to reduce unjustified wage differences. Full-time students were asked about their gender-related experiences in study, for example, whether there was gender stereotyping in study materials or in the educational institution, whether a clear majority of students in their field consisted of men or women, did gender affect student treatment or grades, strictness of gender roles/norms in the institution, support for choosing a study field where the respondent's gender was a minority, and whether sexual minorities and rainbow families were taken into account in teaching or teaching material. Other questions investigated occurrences of sexual harassment and hate speech, kinds of harassment, the perpetrators and the context. The respondents were also asked whether there were people who depreciated or belittled their speech or suggestions on account of their gender and who. A number of questions investigated whether gender affected the wage level, fringe benefits, work loads, career advancement, job contracts, autonomy at work etc. in the workplace and whether gender was a hindrance in entrepreneurship and in what kind of situations. Further topics included attitudes in the workplace relating to absences of men and women due to family matters or paternal leaves, division of caring and other household tasks in R's family and who paid what in the household. Background variables included the respondent's age group, gender, region of residence (NUTS3), highest education attained, status in employment, economic activity, occupational status, number of employees R supervised, type of employment contract, average weekly working hours, whether R belonged to a minority group, type of minority group, living arrangements, marital status, gender of the spouse, spouse's economic activity, number and ages of children aged under 18 in the household, how often R met his or her children who lived elsewhere. For students, type of educational institution
Welfare and Inequality in Finland 2016
Tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin vastaajien onnellisuutta, tunteita sekä halujen tyydyttymistä. Tutkimus on osa Suomen Akatemian strategisen tutkimuksen neuvoston rahoittamaa Eriarvoisuuden torjuminen niukkuuden aikana (TITA) -hanketta (päätösnumero: 293103). Vastaajilta kysyttiin, kuinka tyytyväisiä tai tyytymättömiä he olivat elämäänsä kokonaisuutena, millaiseksi he kokivat mielialansa, saavuttivatko he haluamiaan asioita, millaiseen yhteiskunnalliseen asemaan he sijoittaisivat itsensä ja miten tyytyväisiä he olivat yhteiskunnalliseen asemaansa. The study charted Finnish opinions on and experiences of welfare and inequality as well as feelings of satisfaction and happiness. TThe study was as part of a project entitled Tackling Inequalities in Time of Austerity (TITA) funded by the Strategic Research Council of the Academy of Finland (decision number: 293103). The respondents were asked how often they did things they enjoyed, how well they took care of their health, how much they were able to spend time with people they liked and how satisfied they were with their neighbourhood in terms of built and natural environment and access to services. The respondents were asked how much they cared about the well-being of different groups (e.g. the homeless, immigrants, refugees and asylum-seekers, children in poor families, the elderly) and whether they, a family member or a friend had experienced challenging life circumstances (e.g. homelessness, substance abuse, over-indebtedness, disability). Trust in other people was charted. Finally, the respondents were presented statements about whether the differences in income, health, neighbourhoods and education were too high in Finland. Two statements about social security benefits were also presented, and the respondents were asked how well they had achieved the things they had wanted to achieve. Background variables included the respondent's gender, year of birth, household composition, housing tenure, education, economic activity and choice of political party
Financial Awareness of Finnish People 2014
Tutkimuksessa kartoitetaan suomalaisten tietämystä ja näkemyksiä taloudesta. Tutkimuksessa vastaajien taloudellista tietämystä kartoitettiin eri teemojen kautta. Teemoja kyselyssä olivat päivittäinen taloudenhallinta, talouden suunnittelu, finanssituotteet, yleiset raha-asioihin liittyvät asenteet, säästämiskäyttäytyminen, vakuutukset, varautuminen eläköitymiseen, yrittäjäkysymykset, finanssitietämys, ylivelkaantuminen, asioiden riitautus sekä kyvyt, tyytyväisyys ja luottamus. Näitä aiheita selvitettiin muun muassa esittämällä erilaisia väittämiä, kartoittamalla vastaajien mielipiteitä ja omaa taloudenhallintaa. Vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan tekemiään päätöksiä ja näihin vaikuttaneita asioita. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat sukupuoli, kieli, ikä, siviilisääty, ruokakunnan koko, lasten määrä, työtilanne, vastaajan oma ja kotitalouden tuloluokka, koulutus, asumismuoto, asukkaat, kaupungin tyyppi, kuntaryhmä, maakunta ja suuralueet. This survey studied the financial awareness and knowledge of people living in Finland, and their views on financial issues. The survey is based on the OECD financial literacy questionnaire and methodological guidance developed by the International Network on Financial Education (INFE). Data collection was conducted by TNS Gallup Finland. The survey was financed by Academy of Finland (269130), OP Group Research Foundation (OP-Pohjola ryhmän tutkimussäätiö), Foundation for Economic Education (Liikesivistysrahasto), Vaasan Aktiasäätiö, and Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion (Pörssisäätiö). Main themes included management of personal finances, consumption and saving behaviour, insurances, preparedness for retirement, financial knowledge in general, over-indebtness, own financial abilities and trust in financial institutions. The respondents were also asked to evaluate their financial decisions and the influences behind their decisions. The respondents' management of daily finances was charted with questions on whether the respondents planned their personal or household's consumption beforehand (e.g. by making a budget) and what methods they used for planning and monitoring their finances (e.g. online banking). Some questions focused on the financial products (e.g. credit cards, bank accounts, debts, insurances, investments) that the respondents used and where they got information on these products. General attitudes towards personal finance management were studied through statements relating to, for example, paying bills on time, taking risks in life, monitoring of finances and worrying about the future. Ways of dealing with insufficient income to cover costs were also charted (e.g. whether the respondents borrowed food or money from family or friends). Saving behaviour was investigated by asking the respondents, for example, whether they saved money on their disposal account or invested in shares, and for how long they could live on their savings if their main source of income was lost. Attitudes towards and awareness about insurances were studied through statements concerning, for example, the necessity of insurance for families and the understandability of contents and conditions of different insurances. Next, the survey charted whether the respondents were self-employed and how they prepared for retirement (for example, how the respondents used pension insurance for the self-employed (YEL), whether they knew which pension insurances they were entitled to, and whether they thought that they were saving enough money for retirement). The respondents' financial knowledge was assessed by asking questions about the economy and different financial issues (e.g. interest and inflation). Knowledge and experiences about over-indebtness were charted through questions concerning, for example, defaults on debts, payments or repayments and the respondents' own debt situation. The respondents' awareness was examined on whether they knew where they should appeal a decision made by a bank or insurance company if they were not satisfied with it. Finally, the survey charted abilities, satisfaction and trust in financial issues and institutions (e.g. how the respondents would describe their own abilities in making good financial decisions, whether they were satisfied with their life overall, and whether they thought that banks, insurance companies or the justice system could be trusted). Background variables included, among others, gender, age, marital status, household composition, gross annual income of the respondent and household, highest level of education, as well as NUTS2 and NUTS3 regions of residence
Finnish Drinking Habits Survey: Abstaining Occasions 2016
Raittiuskertakartoitus erittelee alkoholinkäyttötilanteita, joissa vastaaja on ollut läsnä ja joku muu on juonut alkoholia. Aineisto on kerätty vuoden 2016 juomatapatutkimuksen (FSD3282) osana. This dataset is one of the three datasets belonging to the Finnish Drinking Habits Survey 2016 (other datasets in the survey: FSD3282 and FSD3313). The dataset contains information on drinking occasions during which the respondents were present but abstained from drinking. FSD's holdings also include a "drinking occasions" dataset collected for the same study (FSD3313). The survey charted situations where someone else had consumed alcohol but the respondents had abstained: type of the situation (e.g. drinking while meeting friends, drinking during a leisure time activity, partying), location (e.g. home, summer cottage, bar, outdoors), which persons were present (partner, children, relatives, friends, neighbours). The respondents could share details on multiple occasions, and the same questions were asked about each of these situations. Background variables included date and weekday of the drinking occasion as well as starting and ending times for the consumption of alcoholic drinks
EduMAP: Interviews with Adult Education Policy-Makers and Personnel on the Social Exclusion of Young Adults 2017: Germany
Aineisto on kymmenen haastattelun otos Saksassa kerätyistä haastatteluista, ja se on kerätty osana Euroopan laajuista EduMAP-hankketta (Adult Education as a Means to Active Participatory Citizenship). Aineisto on saksankielinen. Yksi haastatteluista on käännetty myös englanniksi. Aineiston haastattelurunko on saatavilla vain englanniksi, vaikka kysymykset on haastatteluissa esitetty haastattelukielellä. Aineistosta on tehty html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla haastatteluja on helppo selata. This dataset includes interviews with educational personnel and policy-makers in the adult education sector in Germany working with vulnerable young adults. The interviews discuss contents of study programmes provided by the organisation, pedagogical approaches, gender equality, life management, social problems, socioeconomic status, and active participatory citizenship. The dataset is a ten-interview sample of the interviews collected in Germany for the Europe-wide EduMAP project (Adult Education as a Means to Active Participatory Citizenship). FSD's holdings also include data collected in the nine other EduMAP countries in their respective languages (the United Kingdom, Turkey, Spain, Romania, Latvia, Hungary, Greece, Finland and Estonia). Background information includes interview date, id, interviewee gender and occupation. The dataset is only available in German. One of the interviews has been translated into English. Questionnaires and participant information sheets are only available in English. The data were organised into an HTML index at FSD
