Finnish Views on the Future of Work in Digital Economy 2017
Kyselytutkimuksen avulla kartoitettiin suomalaisten näkemyksiä työmarkkinoiden kehittymisestä lähitulevaisuudessa sekä siitä, millaisten yhteiskuntapoliittisten toimenpiteiden katsotaan olevan tärkeässä roolissa työn murroksessa. Kysely on osa valtioneuvoston kanslian selvitys- ja tutkimustoiminnan (VNTEAS) tilaamaa Suomalainen työ murroksen jälkeen -tutkimushanketta. Aluksi tutkimuksessa kysyttiin vastaajien näkemyksiä siitä, millaisia vaikutuksia digitaalisella taloudella on työmarkkinoiden toimintaan, esimerkiksi työllisyyteen. Seuraavaksi vastaajilta kysyttiin mielipiteitä erilaisten toimenpiteiden vaikutuksista työntekijöiden mahdollisuuksiin sopeutua tulevaisuuden työelämään. Lopuksi vastaajilta kysyttiin mielipiteitä erilaisista perustulomalleista sekä tiedusteltiin tärkeintä politiikkatoimenpiteillä edistettävää tavoitetta digitaalisessa taloudessa. Taustamuuttujia aineistossa ovat vastaajien sukupuoli, ikä, koulutus, ammattiasema, työmarkkina-asema, elämänvaihe, kotitalouden bruttovuosituloluokka, tieto onko perheen päähenkilö ja päättääkö kotitalouden päivittäistavaraostoksista, puoluekanta (mitä äänestäisi eduskuntavaaleissa ja mitä äänesti edellisissä eduskuntavaaleissa), maakunta, paikkakuntatyyppi sekä kotitalouden koko. The survey charted Finnish people's views on the development of the labour market in the near future as well as on political measures that would be important for the future of Finnish work. The survey was part of the research project "Suomalainen työ murroksen jälkeen" ["Finnish work under transformation"] commissioned by the Government's analysis, assessment and research activities unit (VNTEAS). First, the respondents' views were charted on how employment in Finland would be affected by automation in the next ten years. Attitudinal statements presented to the respondents also examined the perceived future effects of digitalisation and platform economy. In addition, the respondents were asked to evaluate different measures that could be taken to ensure employees' ability to adapt to the future labour market. It was also charted which political objective of the digital economy the respondents deemed most important (e.g. economic growth, shortening work hours, increased employment). Finally, the respondents' opinions were asked on different models for universal basic income (UBI). Background variables included, among others, gender, age, education, economic activity and occupational status, life cycle phase, income group of household, political party preference, region of residence, type of municipality of residence, and size of household
Enhancing Leisure Time Activities: Survey for Eighth-Graders Autumn 2014
The survey charted the perceptions, hopes and experiences of eighth-graders in Helsinki regarding their leisure time, well-being and relationships. The study is part of the Good Leisure Time Development and Research project by Helsinki City Youth Department. The research project followed the same students during their lower secondary school education between 2013 and 2017. First, sleeping and eating habits as well as time spent with friends were examined. Some questions focused on the respondents' relationships with classmates (e.g. whether their classmates helped them if needed and whether they experienced bullying or social exclusion from their classmates). Next, the respondents were asked what their favourite subject at school was, whether they thought their grades were good or bad and how often they missed school. Leisure time activities were charted with questions relating to, for example, who the respondents spent time with after school and where, and with whom the after-school activities were the most enjoyable or boring. Internet use and reading habits during leisure time were also charted. The respondents were asked to select their current leisure time hobbies from a long list of hobbies and activities (e.g. football, movie watching, martial arts, writing, console games, shopping). Next, the respondents were asked about their hobby-related opportunities. They were asked to choose new hobbies and activities they would like to try from the same list they chose their current hobbies and leisure time activities from. The study also charted what the respondents thought of as either perfect or poor leisure time. Further questions focused on how they would rate their past Saturday in school grades (from 4 to 10) and what they would do after school on the day the survey was filled out. Finally, motivations and influences behind the respondents' chosen leisure time activities and plans for the future were examined (e.g. whether their parents, the media, or their role models had the most influence on their choices). Background variables included the respondent's gender, mother tongue, living arrangements, household composition and number of siblings
Substance Use Related Cases in Social and Health Services 2015
The survey charted substance use related cases in social and health services on the second Tuesday of October in 2015. Professionals in social and health services recorded information on every client or patient who used the services on that day while intoxicated or because of some harm, such as an injury, relating to substance use, or were assessed by an employee to be a substance abuser. In 2015, information was collected from prisons and community sanctions offices in addition to social welfare and health care facilities. First, the substances the client had used in the past 12 months (e.g. alcohol, cannabis, cocaine), their simultaneous polydrug use (the simultaneous or concurrent use of two or more substances within a short time period) and whether they had ever during their life injected drugs were charted. The primary reason for using social and health services (e.g. injury, withdrawal symptoms, substance abuse problems) and the services provided to the client (e.g. helping with life management problems, intervention, detoxication) were surveyed. The occurrence of threatening or violent behaviour by the client in the facility was also examined, and mental health problems unrelated to substance use as well as gambling problems were charted. Next, the questionnaire contained some questions directed only at either outpatient care clients (questions 21-23) or inpatient care clients (question 24). The questions concerning outpatient care clients focused on, for example, whether they had made an appointment beforehand and the time used on the services provided to them. The question concerning inpatient care (overnight care) clients examined the length of the client's continuous treatment at the time of data collection (e.g. 1-3 days, over a month, 6-12 months). Background variables included the language and collection mode of the questionnaire, mode of data entry, location and region (NUTS3) of the facility and type of the facility as well as the client's gender, location and region (NUTS3) of residence, marital status, age group, economic activity and occupational status, housing tenure and whether they had children under 18 years of age
Implicit Association Test (IAT) of Gender and Occupation 2019
This dataset contains aggregate data from an Implicit Association Test (IAT) that measured the strength of associations between gender and occupation. The test examined the participants' reaction time in how quickly they sorted words into categories (N: 137). The occupation categories used in the test were lawyer/solicitor (lakimies/juristi) and actor (näyttelijä). The two terms for lawyer/solicitor differ in Finnish so that the term 'lakimies' is gendered (masculine) whereas the term 'juristi' is gender neutral. The Finnish term 'näyttelijä' for actor/actress is these days understood as gender-neutral, although a more old-fashioned form 'näyttelijätär' for actress also exists. The data were collected for a Master's thesis that studied whether the strength of implicit associations between gender and occupation was affected by the use of the gendered 'lakimies' term for lawyer/solicitor when compared to the gender-neutral term 'juristi'. The Implicit Association Test (IAT) is a reaction time based categorisation task where the participant is asked to quickly sort words and/or pictures into categories. In the test for this study, the participant was shown four categories: lawyer/solicitor (lakimies/juristi), actor (näyttelijä), male, and female. Additionally, 10 stimulus words were shown relating to each category. During the test, the participant was asked to sort the stimulus word that appeared on screen to the category they thought it belonged to, for example, lawyer - male or actor - female. Four versions of the test were conducted with differing test settings. Each version included stereotypically gendered (congruent) and non-stereotypically gendered (incongruent) categories. Each participant completed only one version of the test. In all versions, the participants completed seven categorisation tasks, of which the reaction times for tasks 4/7 and 7/7 were collected. In the practice tasks, 20 stimulus words were shown to the participants, whereas in the recorded tasks (4/7 and 7/7), 40 stimulus words were shown. The data include the average reaction times of the respondents and their standard deviations in the four different test versions. Additionally, the average of all reaction times and their standard deviations, the difference in the reaction times of the congruent and incongruent categories, and an IAT score which details the strength of the association, are included in the data. The reaction time was calculated by subtracting the time shown on screen from the time the participant took to categorise the stimulus word by using the 'i' and 'e' keys on the keyboard. Background variables included the participant's age, gender and level of education
Finnish Opinions on Security Policy and National Defence 2019
The annual survey charted Finnish public opinion on foreign policy, defence policy, security, military alliances, military service, and international armed conflicts at the time of the survey. Some questions examined views on factors affecting safety and security. Opinions were charted on the success of foreign policy in the previous few years, funds allocated to the Defence Forces, whether Finland should resort to armed defence in case of any sort of attack, whether the respondents would be prepared to participate in national defence according to their abilities, and how the global security situation would develop in the next five years. Views were probed on the current, conscription-based defence system and whether women should also participate in conscription. The respondents were asked whether Finland should form military alliances and whether Finland should apply for NATO membership. Next, the respondents were asked how different issues affected the safety and security of Finland. These included, among others, Finland's EU membership, potential NATO membership, participation in the EU defence and in international crisis management, and military non-alignment. Satisfaction with defence policy in the previous few years was investigated. Views were charted on Finnish military cooperation in the EU, with NATO, other Nordic countries, and the United States. The respondents were asked to evaluate what effect several countries and organisations, such as Russia, China, US, UN, and EU had on Finland's security. Views were also examined on the military situation in nearby regions during the next decade. Concern caused by certain phenomena and issues was charted, such as withdrawals from arms controls agreements, climate change, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, organised crime, international terrorism, fake news, cyberthreats, political extremism, racism, employment, and current developments in the EU, Russia, Middle East and Ukraine. The respondents were asked whether their trust in the future of the European Union had weakened, strengthened or stayed the same. They were also asked about their views on military equipment exports of Finnish companies. Next, the respondents were asked to evaluate Finland's preparedness for the prevention of various security threats, such as armed attack, energy supply issues, infectious diseases and epidemics, environmental hazards, political pressure from other states, economic crisis, terrorism, and attacks against information systems and networks. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, age, economic activity and occupational status, economic activity and occupational status of the household head, household composition, ages of children living at home (categorised), gross annual income of the household, level of education, type of accommodation, region of residence, number of inhabitants in the municipality of residence, political party choice in the previous parliamentary elections, and political party choice if the parliamentary elections were held at the time of the survey
EVA Survey on Finnish Values and Attitudes Winter 2019
Vastaajat kertoivat myös, miten aktiivisesti he seuraavat EU-jäsenyyteen liittyviä asioita ja miten he suhtautuvat EU-jäsenyyteen. Lisäksi vastaajat arvioivat EU:n tulevaa kehitystä ja sitä, miten EU-jäsenyys on muuttanut Suomea. Lopuksi kartoitettiin vastaajien näkemyksiä euron ja EMU-jäsenyyden hyödyistä ja haitoista Suomelle nykyisessä taloustilanteessa. Taustamuuttujia olivat sukupuoli, ikäryhmä, asuinkunnan koko, asuinmaakunta, peruskoulutus, ammatillinen koulutus, ammattiryhmä, työnantaja, työsuhde, toimiala, puoluekanta (mitä puoluetta äänestäisi, jos eduskuntavaalit pidettäisiin nyt), ammatillinen keskusjärjestö ja yhteiskuntaluokka sekä talouden yhteenlasketut bruttotulot. The survey charted the values and attitudes of Finnish people. The main themes of the Winter 2019 survey included parliamentary elections and government formation, changes in tax policy, environmental actions and the distribution of power in decision-making between nation states and the European Union. First, the respondents were presented with attitudinal statements concerning a variety of social topics, such as welfare, government debt, income disparities, climate change, immigration, taxation and the EU. The respondents' opinions on the new government formed after the parliamentary elections of 2019 were examined. Questions charted what the new government should focus on (e.g. improving employment, lowering taxation, increasing funding for education, stricter environment policy, cutting public expenditure) and what the respondents' views were on the composition of the new government (which political parties should or should not be included in the new government and which political party the prime minister should belong to). Opinions on tax policy were examined with questions concerning whether different taxes should be increased or decreased. Regarding climate change, the respondents were asked what actions, such as giving up meat, dairy or flying and decreasing energy consumption, they thought they could adopt in their lives to slow down climate change. Next, the respondents were asked about the distribution of power between nation states and the EU regarding various different aspects, such as environment policy, taxation of companies, education policy, health care, defence policy and international trade. In addition, the potential future developments of the EU that the respondents hoped to see happen in the following 10 years were surveyed (e.g. Brexit happening, Finland quitting the euro or other countries in addition to Great Britain leaving the EU). Opinions were also charted on Finland's EU membership and the currency change to euro. Finally, questions were presented on whether the EMU membership and the Euro were advantageous or disadvantageous to Finland in the economic situation at the time of the survey. The respondents were also asked whether they would have voted for or against Finland's EU membership if a referendum had been held at the time of responding, and if they had voted in the 1994 referendum, whether they had voted for or against joining the EU. Background variables included gender, age group, size of municipality of residence, region of residence (NUTS3), basic education, professional or vocational education, occupational status, type of employer, contractual (employment) relationship, industry of employment, political party preference, trade union confederation, perceived socioeconomic class and household income

That's So '80s! Writing Competition 2015
Aineistosta on tehty jatkokäyttäjälle html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla kirjoituksia on helppo selata. The study charted the memories of Finns who lived their youth in the 1980s with a focus on the music of the time and its effect on everyday life, hobbies and fashion.
