Haastateltavia on aineistossa 29. Aineistosta on tehty html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla aineistoa on helppo selata. This dataset consists of six group interviews with unemployed young adults and young adults who participated in employment promoting services. 29 young adults, aged between 20 and 29, were interviewed. The survey charted the perceptions, hopes and experiences of ninth-graders in Helsinki regarding their leisure time, well-being and relationships. The study is part of the Good Leisure Time Development and Research project by Helsinki City Youth Department. The research project followed the same students during their lower secondary school education between 2013 and 2017. First, sleeping and eating habits as well as time spent with friends were examined. Some questions focused on the respondents' relationships with classmates and teachers (e.g. whether their classmates helped them if needed and whether they experienced bullying or social exclusion from their classmates or teachers). Next, the respondents were asked what their favourite subject at school was, whether they thought their grades were good or bad, how often they missed school and how much time they spent on homework daily. Leisure time activities were charted with questions relating to, for example, who the respondents spent time with after school and where, and with whom the after-school activities were the most enjoyable or boring. Internet use and reading habits during leisure time were also charted. The respondents were asked to select their current leisure time hobbies from a long list of hobbies and activities (e.g. football, movie watching, martial arts, writing, console games, shopping). Next, the respondents were asked about their hobby-related opportunities. They were also asked to choose new hobbies and activities they would like to try from the same list they chose their current hobbies and leisure time activities from. The study also charted what the respondents thought of as either perfect or poor leisure time. Further questions focused on how they would rate their past Saturday in school grades (from 4 to 10) and what they would do after school on the day the survey was filled out. Finally, motivations and influences behind the respondents' chosen leisure time activities and plans for the future were examined (e.g. whether their parents, the media, or their role models had the most influence on their choices). Background variables included the respondent's gender, mother tongue, living arrangements, household composition and number of siblings

Tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin vastaajien hyvinvointia ja eriarvoisuuden kokemuksia. Tutkimus on osa Suomen Akatemian rahoittamaa Hyvinvointi ja sosiaalinen yhteenkuuluvuus eriarvoisessa yhteiskunnassa (WEBE) -hanketta (päätösnumero: 252317). Aluksi vastaajilta kysyttiin, kuinka tyytyväisiä tai tyytymättömiä he ovat elämäänsä, millaiseksi he kokevat mielialansa, ovatko he saavuttaneet haluamiansa asioita ja millaiseen asemaan he sijoittaisivat itsensä suomalaisessa yhteiskunnassa. Seuraavaksi kysyttiin, kuinka paljon vastaajat välittävät eri ihmisryhmien hyvinvoinnista ja kuinka paljon he luottavat ihmisiin. Heitä pyydettiin myös arvioimaan mahdollisuuksiaan saada apua läheisiltä. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin, millaisia mahdollisuuksia he kokevat yhteiskunnan tarjoavan itselleen verrattuna muihin suomalaisiin. The study charted Finnish opinions on welfare and inequality. The study was part of the Wellbeing and social cohesion in an unequal society (WEBE) project funded by the Academy of Finland (decision number: 252317). First, the respondents' satisfaction with their financial circumstances was charted with questions regarding, for example, whether they would want to earn more money, own more clothes, be able to eat out more often, and be able to go on holiday to exotic places more often. The respondents' self-perceived success in important areas of life, such as relationships and self-esteem, was charted next by using the Flourishing Scale (FS). The respondents were then asked about their general life satisfaction, mood, ability to achieve things and perceived status in society. Next, satisfaction with specific domains of life, such as standard of living, personal health and personal safety, was examined by using the Personal Wellbeing Index (PWI). Regarding income and personal finance, net income of the household and the ease of covering usual expenses with the income were surveyed. The respondents' perceptions regarding various different groups in Finland, for example, the homeless, immigrants, middle class, and rich, were surveyed. Some questions focused on the respondents' personal health, and they were asked, for example, whether they had had problems with moving or exercise, felt pain or suffering, or experienced fears or depression on the day the survey was conducted. The respondents were then asked to what extent they agreed or disagreed with various statements concerning work and family life, living circumstances, communities they belonged to, and environment and nature. Feelings of loneliness, depression, failure, happiness and being loved or in love in the past 12 months were charted. The respondents were also asked how well various statements described them (e.g. whether they thought people should live independently, spoke directly and openly with others, and liked talking to their neighbours). Next, the respondents were asked how much they cared about the well-being of different groups (e.g. the homeless, immigrants, refugees and asylum-seekers, children in poor families, the elderly). The respondents' opinions concerning the people living in their neighbourhood were charted and trust in other people was examined. The help the respondents received from people close to them was surveyed with questions on, for example, who helped them with practical issues and who would help them financially if they needed it. The respondents were then asked whether they thought Finnish society had offered or would offer them better or worse opportunities compared to others of the same age (e.g. in standard of living, income, hobbies and starting a family). Some questions concerned the respondents' life management, for instance, whether they ate healthy food, used alcohol or drugs, and took care of people close to them. Negative life events were surveyed with questions on whether the respondents, a family member or a friend had experienced challenging life circumstances (e.g. homelessness, substance abuse, over-indebtedness, disability). A number of statements about social assistance (the social security benefit of the last resort) and social security were presented (e.g. whether the respondents thought that many people apply for social assistance on fraudulent grounds or that EU membership is a disadvantage for social security). Finally, the respondents were asked whether differences in income, health, neighbourhoods and education were too high in Finland. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, year of birth, marital status, household composition, type of accommodation, housing tenure, level of education, economic activity and occupational status, municipality and NUTS3 region of residence, and whether R's municipality of residence at present was the same as R's municipality of residence at birth

Aineistossa on kartoitettu perusopetuksen oppilaanohjaajien mielipiteitä ammatillisesta koulutuksesta Suomessa. Vastaajat kertoivat, miten mm. oppilaan koulumenestys tai halu päästä nopeasti työelämään vaikuttavat siihen, millä tavalla he työssään ohjaavat oppilaita. Lopuksi vastaajat kertoivat, onko heillä työtään ajatellen riitävästi tietoa ammatillisesta koulutuksesta ja sen eri vaihtoehdoista. Taustatietoja aineistossa ovat vastaajan sukupuoli, kuinka kauan on työskennellyt perusopetuksen oppilaanohjaajana, asuinpaikkakunta sekä maakunta. The survey charted the perceptions and opinions of lower secondary school guidance counsellors regarding vocational education and training in Finland. Main themes included, among others, the future plans of the ninth-graders the councellors had guided during the past year, the councellors' perceptions of how general and vocational upper secondary education are appreciated, and factors that affected the educational guidance given by the councellors to the ninth-graders. The study was commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Culture and Skills Finland. Data collection was conducted by IROResearch. First, the councellors' perceptions of the ninth-graders' opinions on studying were charted with various attitudinal statements concerning, for example, how important the ninth-graders thought studying was for the future and whether they thought studying was interesting or working was more interesting than studying. The counsellors were also asked whether the ninth-graders thought various educational choices were interesting for them personally (e.g. general or vocational upper secondary education or tenth grade). Factors affecting how the councellors guided the ninth-graders were examined (e.g. the student's success in their studies, their ambition and will to succeed, their parents' opinions). The fields of education that most interested ninth-graders who planned to continue into vocational education or training were surveyed (e.g. humanities and arts, natural sciences, information and communication technologies). Finally, the councellors were asked whether they thought they had enough information on vocational education and training considering their work in guiding ninth-graders. Background information included the respondent's gender, how long they had worked as a lower secondary school guidance councellor, municipality of residence and region of residence (NUTS3)

Opiskelijoilta kysyttiin, kuinka kiinnostavina he pitivät eri koulutusvaihtoehtoja hakiessaan ja kuinka tyytyväisiä he ovat opiskeluvalintaansa. Vastaajat kertoivat, mitä he aikovat tehdä nykyisten opintojensa jälkeen ja uskovatko he opiskelevansa lisää vielä myöhemmin työuransa aikana. Vastaajat ottivat myös kantaa mm. siihen, pitävätkö he opintojaan hyödyllisenä työelämässä tai jatko-opinnoissa. Taustatietoja aineistossa ovat vastaajan sukupuoli, äidinkieli, opiskeleeko ammatillisessa oppilaitoksessa, lukiossa vai molemmissa, asuinpaikkakunta, maakunta, vanhempien koulutusaste ja ammattiryhmä sekä koulumenestys peruskoulussa. The survey charted the perceptions, experiences and opinions of second-year students in vocational or general upper secondary education regarding vocational education and training in Finland. Main themes included, among others, reasons behind the respondents' choice of upper secondary education, perceptions of how general and vocational upper secondary education are appreciated, and opinions on studying. The study was commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Culture and Skills Finland. Data collection was conducted by IROResearch. First, opinions on studying were examined with various statements concerning, for example, whether the respondents thought that studying was interesting, they studied because they had no other option, and their parents were interested in how they succeeded in their studies. Factors affecting the respondents' choice of upper secondary education (e.g. wanting to have a job with good pay, location of the school/education facility, parents' opinions) were also surveyed. The respondents were asked how interesting different educational paths had been for them personally when they had applied to upper secondary education (e.g. general or vocational upper secondary education, tenth grade) and how satisfied they were with their choice of education. Alternative paths of education the respondents had considered when applying to upper secondary education were also surveyed, as well as whether they had been accepted to their primary choice. The respondents' plans after completing upper secondary education were examined (e.g. whether they planned to work straight away or study more). Finally, the respondents were presented with some attitudinal statements relating to, for example, whether they thought their upper secondary education would be useful in their future work and whether they would choose a different path of education if they could reapply. Background variables included the respondent's gender, mother tongue, whether they studied in vocational or general upper secondary school or in both, municipality of residence, region of residence (NUTS3), parents' highest level of education and occupation group, and whether they had received any special support in school during the past two years

In the beginning of 2017, Finland's three gambling operators that had exclusive rights to provide gambling services, Finland's Slot Machine Association RAY, Veikkaus and Fintoto, merged into a single government-owned organisation (Veikkaus). The 2017 survey aimed to chart Finnish gambling habits, social and healthcare-related problems caused by gambling, and opinions on the visibility of advertising and marketing by Finnish gambling organisations. The goal of the study was to examine possible consequences of the merge. The survey was a follow-up study to FSD3261 Gambling Harm Survey 2016. The data for the follow-up 2017 study were collected in 2018 but as the study examines the respondents' gambling during the previous year, the title refers to the year 2017. The study was conducted by Statistics Finland and commissioned by the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). First, the respondents were asked about the reasoning for a government-owned and government-regulated gambling market (e.g. securing gambling profits for the state, supporting Finnish art, science, sports, and social services, reducing the harm caused by gambling, preventing foreign competition). Their opinions on marketing and advertising by these organisations were examined with questions regarding, for example, how often the respondents had seen gambling advertisements on billboards, television, the internet etc. Gambling habits were examined with questions regarding the frequency of playing games of chance, such as lotteries or horse betting, and reasons for playing them. Knowledge on aspects relating to gambling, such as the chances of winning, warning signs of excessive gambling, and health-related or financial consequences of gambling were charted. The study also surveyed whether the respondents found gambling a problem, how often they had felt in 2017 that it was a problem, and whether they were familiar with or had used different services provided by Veikkaus to help control gambling. The amount of money the respondents had used for gambling in 2017 per week, per month and during the whole year was also surveyed, as well as in what sort of environments they played games of chance (e.g. at home, at work, in kiosks, at Casino Helsinki) and with whom (alone, with an acquaintance or a group of acquaintances, or with an unknown person or a group of unknown persons). It was also surveyed whether the respondents gambled on the internet and used a PC or a mobile device, such as a smartphone or a tablet computer, for online gambling. Next, the Problem and Pathological Gambling Measure (PPGM) was used to evaluate the respondents' gambling habits. They were also asked about harm caused by gambling on their lives in general as well as relating to their economical situation, work or studies, health, emotional well-being and relationships. Other possible types of harm on the respondents' lives were also surveyed. Finally, the respondents were asked if their social circle in 2017 included persons who, in their opinion, gambled too much. It was queried who these persons were in relation to the respondents and what sort of problems these persons' gambling had caused for the respondents. Background variables included gender, education level, net income (categorised), economic activity and occupational status, age group and NUTS3 region

Aineisto sisältää kahdeksan asiantuntijahaastattelua, joista kuusi on toteutettu englanniksi ja kaksi suomeksi. Haastattelut suoritettiin osana Koneen säätiön rahoittamaa hanketta "From Roadmap to Roadshow: A collective demonstration and information project to strengthen Finnish digital history". Aineistosta on tehty html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla kirjoituksia on helppo selata. The study charted the facilitation of research in digital humanities centres in Finland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The aim of the study was to find the best practices for facilitating digital humanities research and to share the practices with other organizations that conduct similar research. The study includes eight expert interviews: six in English and two in Finnish. The data were collected as part of the project "From Roadmap to Roadshow: A collective demonstration and information project to strengthen Finnish digital history", funded by Kone Foundation. The participants were asked questions about the digital humanities centres they worked at, relating to general aspects (e.g. goals and funding) of their centre, the staff and other people involved, collaboration and communication, infrastructure, and physical environment. Additionally, the questions aimed to gather ideas on how to make digital research methods more widely known, how to involve more people in the facilitation of digital research and how to develop multidisciplinary research. The participants also discussed the obstacles they had encountered in facilitating digital research. The data display the real names of the interviewed experts. The names and locations of their organizations as well as the time and location of the interview are also included in the background variables. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML index at FSD. The dataset is only available in the original languages (Finnish and English)
