Aineisto jatkaa Lastensuojelun keskusliiton tekemää lapsiin kohdistuvan kuritusväkivallan ja siihen liittyvien asenteiden kehitystä seuraavaa tutkimusta. Aineistonkeruu toteutettiin keväällä 2017 henkilökohtaisina haastatteluina osana Taloustutkimuksen Omnibus-tutkimusta. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, onko vastaajien mielestä lasten ruumiillinen kuritus ainakin poikkeustapauksissa hyväksyttävä kasvatuskeino. Edelleen vastaajilta tiedusteltiin, onko joissakin tilanteissa oikeutettua ratkoa lasten ja vanhempien tai vanhempien keskinäisiä ristiriitoja fyysisellä väkivallalla. Vanhemmilta kysyttiin myös, ovatko he käyttäneet omien lastensa kasvatuksessa esimerkiksi tukistamista, läimäytystä, piiskaa tai väkivallalla uhkailua. Kysely sisälsi lisäksi kysymyksen, salliiko laki lapsen ruumiillisen kurituksen. Seuraavaksi vastaajilta tiedusteltiin, onko heitä kuritettu lapsuudessaan omien vanhempiensa toimesta. The data are part of a Central Union for Child Welfare study that investigates the use of corporal punishment in upbringing and attitudes towards it in Finland. Face-to-face interviews were carried out in spring 2017 as part of an Omnibus study conducted by Taloustutkimus. The respondents were asked whether they thought corporal punishment was, at least in some cases, acceptable. The same question was asked about pulling a child's hair or flicking them. Further questions included whether using "moderate" violence to solve conflicts between children and parents is justified, and whether using "mild" or "moderate" corporal punishments is, at least in exceptional circumstances, acceptable. The respondents were then asked whether they thought yelling at a child was a justified way of intervening in misbehaviour, threatening with corporal punishment was acceptable in exceptional circumstances, and repeatedly ordering a child to calm down alone, e.g. in a time-out, was acceptable. Next, those respondents who had children under the age of 18 in the household were asked whether they had used different forms of corporal punishment (pulling hair, spanking etc.) and whether they had threatened their children with violence. The respondents were also asked whether the Finnish law allows corporal punishment or not and whether their parents had used corporal punishment to discipline them when they were under the age of 18. Finally, the respondents were asked how harmful they thought various actions were for a child's development when done by a parent (e.g. spanking or ignoring a child, reprimanding a child, exposing a child to violence between the parents). Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, age, region of residence (NUTS2 and NUTS3), number of inhabitants in the municipality of residence, municipality type, household composition, number and ages of children living in the household, employment status, economic activity and occupational status, level of education, marital status, and type of accommodation

Aineistosta on tehty html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla kirjoituksia on helppo selata. This dataset consists of 17 writings on the respondents' experiences of self-management in working life. The participants worked in expert organisations. In the writing instructions, the respondents were asked to describe what self-management meant for them personally and how it showed in their work, as well as what factors in their life contributed to their working capacity and how they achieved their goals in working life. Additionally, the respondents were asked to recount whether their supervisor's actions affected their own self-management and whether their supervisor was interested in the work they did. Finally, the respondents' opportunities to impact work-related aspects were discussed in the writings. Background information included the respondent's gender and age as well as area of residence (categorised), level of education (categorised) and occupation group (categorised). The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD. The dataset is only available in Finnish

Pro Children -kyselyt on toistettu täsmälleen samanlaisina. Lisäksi vanhemmista on seuraavaa tietoa: koulutus, syntymävuosi luokiteltuna, pääasiallinen toiminta, työsuhteen laatu, asumismuoto, kotitalouden yhteenlasketut tulot ja subjektiivinen kokemus toimeentulon riittävyydestä. The dataset consists of six surveys which charted the eating habits, sleep and exercise of Swedish-speaking primary school children and their parents. The surveys were conducted in the Uusimaa region in Finland in 2006 and 2008 and followed the same students and parents. Main topics included the children's health related habits and what affected them (e.g. family's eating habits, meals eaten, amount of exercise and sleeping habits). Additionally, the data include measurements such as the children's weight, height and waist circumference from both years of data collection. The surveys were conducted in Swedish and collected as part of the Hälsoverkstaden project by Folkhälsan. The schools were divided into control (N: 14) and intervention (N: 13) schools. At the intervention schools, the teachers received additional training on nutrition, exercise and sleep, and used their chosen extra materials and methods as part of their teaching. The children and their parents can be connected in the data. The children responded to two surveys each year: a survey that contained general questions on the research topic and a more detailed Pro Children survey (Skolbarns matvanor) which charted the foods eaten in the past 24 hours, the consumption of fruits and vegetables, and daily screen time. The children's parents responded to one survey each year, which charted the sleeping, eating and exercise habits of the parent, child and family. The general questionnaires from both years include mostly the same questions. In the Pro Children surveys all questions were repeated. The general surveys for children charted background information on them and their families, friends and school. The children were asked questions relating to how they would describe their parents, how they saw themselves e.g. compared to peers, how much their parents knew about their friends, money spending habits and whereabouts after schools, and how satisfied they were with their school. The children were also asked about their school lunch habits. Next, mealtimes were charted with questions relating to breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner and evening snack. The food and drinks consumed most often by the children and parents were also charted. Physical activity was examined with questions regarding, for example, exercise at school and at home, motivations behind exercise, parents' exercise habits, and how they would compare themselves to their peers. Screen time was examined with questions concerning the amount of time spent after school on watching TV, videos or DVDs, or playing games on a computer or game consoles. Finally, sleeping habits were charted with questions relating to, for example, whether the children thought they had problems with sleep, difficulties waking up in the morning, or felt tired during the day. Questions about sleep rhythm were also presented. The surveys for parents first charted background information, such as whether they were responding alone or with someone and for how many hours a day their child was alone at home. Next, the parents were asked about their own physical activity as well as their motivations for taking their child to different hobbies (e.g. for the child to make friends or concentrate better in school). The screen time of the child was also examined. Both the parents' and children's sleep rhythm and habits were charted. Next, eating habits were examined with questions relating to, for example, what meals the child ate and whether the parents themselves ate fruits and vegetables. They were also asked what possible reasons there were for not buying fruits or vegetables (e.g. it's too expensive, the child is allergic) and whether the family ate meals together. Finally, the parents were asked to provide some additional background information and to describe their opinions and beliefs about health and health-related habits. Both questionnaires filled out by the parents contain a set of questions based on Antonovsky's Sense of Coherence scale. The Pro Children questionnaire first asked the children to give some background information about themselves and their families. Then, the children were asked questions on what they had eaten in the morning, in school and after school on the day before the questionnaire was filled out. The questions concerning each of the three mealtimes related to whether they had eaten at that time, what they had eaten and how much fruit or vegetables the meals had contained. The amount of different foods eaten was given in portions. Next, the children were presented with additional questions about eating fruits and vegetables (e.g. whether they thought that fruits and vegetables tasted good and what their favourite fruits and vegetables were). Questions about the availability of fruits and vegetables at home were also presented. Finally, the questionnaire charted how often the children's families ate together, whether the children ate while watching TV and their free-time activities. The scale used in the questionnaire is based on the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Background variables included, among others, the child's grade, gender, country of birth (reclassified), type of accommodation, weekly allowance, number of siblings, height, weight and waist circumference. Additionally, the following background information, among others, was received on the parents: highest level of education, economic activity, type of employment contract, type of accommodation, income of the household and subjective experience of the sufficiency of income. The data also include municipality of residence and school variables, as well as whether the school was an intervention or control school. The variables do not include the names of the school or municipality

The survey charted the careers and employment situations of Finnish doctoral graduates three years after they had obtained their degree in 2016. Themes of the survey included impact of a doctoral degree on employment, job satisfaction and development suggestions for doctoral education. The respondents were first asked to what extent different reasons had impacted their decision to take up a doctoral degree, and how they had financed their studies. They were asked to estimate the share of time they had spent on their doctoral dissertation alongside other work. Relating to employment situation and quality of work, questions charted how the degree had affected the respondents' status in the job market and what their occupational status was at the time of the survey and what it had been 6 months before starting the degree and 6 months after finishing it. The respondents were asked if they had been unemployed after finishing their degree, and reasons were charted that potentially had hindered their employment. The respondents who were in paid work were asked the type of their current work tasks and the competences needed in their work. It was also examined whether a doctoral degree was a prerequisite for their current job, how well the respondents' work corresponded to their qualifications, and whether their work was related to the topic of their doctoral dissertation. Gross monthly income was also charted. With regard to the significance of a doctoral degree in occupational life, general satisfaction with the degree was charted along with opinions on whether doctoral education was useful when it came to different types of competences needed in occupational life. Relating to developing and improving doctoral education, views were probed on things that should be emphasised in the education (e.g. skills related to teaching, entrepreneurship, management, popularisation of research results, career planning, presentation skills). Background variables included the respondent's gender, field of study, and age at the time of graduation (dichotomised "under 36"/"36 and over")

The National User Survey of Finnish Public Libraries charted customer experiences of library services in Finland. The survey charted frequency of library use, reasons for using the library, as well as satisfaction with library facilities, collections, and customer service. The user survey is part of the national evaluation of library services and a tool for the development of each library itself. The survey was funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and each library collected their own survey. Frequency of visiting the library was charted as well as reasons for visiting (including e.g. checking out books, searching the library's collections, using the library's IT equipment, reading magazines). The respondents were also asked how often they used online services of the library and whether they followed the library on social media. Next, the respondents were presented with statements relating to library facilities (location, opening hours, equipment, sufficiency of space for different activities, accessibility), collections (books, audio books, e-books, magazines, e-magazines, music, movies), customer service, and different types of events and trainings. The respondents evaluated these factors according to how important they considered them and how well they were implemented in the library. The respondents were also asked to give a school grade to the library in general. Finally, the respondents were asked to what extent the library had positively affected their work, studying or other activities. Background variables included gender, age group, economic activity and occupational status, and educational level

The survey charted the professional motivation, identity and religiosity of Children's Instructor students in Christian Institutes of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Finland. This dataset is based on the first collection wave in a cohort study that followed students studying for an upper secondary qualification in Child Care, Education and Family Welfare as they progressed in their studies. The participating students started their studies in 2014. FSD collections also include the second (FSD3262) and third (FSD3263) waves of this study. The study was part of the project "Student's Development into Church Professionals" (Kasvu kirkon työntekijäksi), funded by Kirkon koulutuskeskus (adult education school of the Evangelical Lutheran Church) and Church Research Institute. First, the respondents were asked about their reasons for applying to Children's Instructor training (e.g. wanting to help others or work with children and interest in religious questions) and to what extent they agreed or disagreed with statements concerning working for a parish (e.g. the reliability of a parish as an employer and trust in the future of educational work in a parish). Next, participation in voluntary work and parish activities was charted with questions relating to the reasons for volunteering and the kinds of parish activities, e.g. Sunday school as a child or assisting with church service, that the respondent had taken part in. Attitudes towards racism and migrants (foreign nationals in Finland) were examined with statements concerning, for example, whether the respondents thought that migrants have made Finnish culture more varied and whether they would accept a foreign national as their co-worker or friend. The survey also charted the respondents' attitudes towards life and future (e.g. how happy they felt and whether they were worried about the future) as well as how strong was their sense of belonging to different groups such as family, friends, online communities, parish and Finnish society. The respondents' religiosity was investigated with questions about religious affiliation, religious identity (e.g. whether they identified themselves as spiritual persons and/or conservative in their religion) and their own religiosity compared to church doctrine (e.g. whether they believed in the resurrection of Christ and the existence of Heaven and Hell). Spirituality was charted by asking the respondents to what extent they agreed or disagreed with statements concerning, for example, alternative medicine, astrology and meditation. Finally, the presence of religion and religiosity in the respondents' lives was charted with questions concerning the frequency of e.g. praying, reading the Bible and attending church services as well as how often they discussed religious issues and with whom. Background variables included the respondent's age, length of residency in Finland, previous degrees, educational institution, household composition at present and during the respondents' primary and lower secondary education and whether the respondent aimed for curriculum-based or competence-based qualification

Kyselyissä tutkittiin Suomeen muuttaneita inkerinsuomalaisia ja heidän kotoutumistaan. Teemoina olivat muun muassa muuttamisen motiivit, integroituminen suomalaiseen yhteiskuntaan, sosiaalinen hyvinvointi, suomalainen ja venäläinen kulttuuri sekä arvot. Aineisto koostuu neljästä vuosien 2008-2013 aikana samalle joukolle toteutetusta kyselystä, joista ensimmäinen kysely kerättiin Venäjällä ennen vastaajien muuttoa. Tutkimusaineistoista kolme ensimmäistä on kerätty Suomen Akatemian rahoittamassa INPRES-hankkeessa ja neljäs kysely LADA -tutkimushankkeessa vuosien 2008-2013 aikana (hankenumerot 123297 ja 257079). Hankkeiden avulla pyrittiin saamaan lisätietoa inkerinsuomalaisten paluumuuttajataustaisten maahanmuuttajien kotoutumisesta. The study examined Ingrian-Finnish remigrants and their social adjustment in Finland. Main themes included, among others, the respondents' motives for moving from Russia to Finland, integration into Finnish society, social well-being, and perceptions of Finnish and Russian culture and values. The data consist of four surveys conducted between 2008 and 2013. The study follows the same remigrants throughout the surveys, and the first survey was conducted in Russia before the respondents moved to Finland. Some questions were repeated, although not always identically, in the four surveys. The surveys were conducted in Russian, but the data are in Finnish and English. Because the data do not contain all questions included in the questionnaire, only the questions included in the data are described here. The first three surveys were conducted as part of the INPRES (Intervening at the pre-migration stage: Providing tools for promoting integration and adaptation) research project and the fourth survey was conducted as part of the LADA (The Long-Term Adaptation of Diaspora Migrants) research project. The aim of the projects was to study pre- and post-migration factors involved in the long-term adaptation of ethnic re-migrants from Russia to Finland. Both research projects were funded by the Academy of Finland. In the first survey, which was the most extensive out of the four surveys, the motives for the respondents' prospective move to Finland (e.g. aspiration to secure children's future, will to live in the country of their ancestors, concerns regarding financial circumstances, will to live with relatives residing in Finland) as well as with whom they were planning to move were charted. The respondents' sources of information regarding Finland and Finnish society, for example, relatives/friends, Finnish language teachers, authorities or the media, as well as whether they had received support from the same sources were surveyed. Finally, the first survey charted whether the respondents had learned Finnish and for how long. In the four surveys, question sets charting the respondents' values, attitudes and prejudices against Finns and Russians were repeated. Several character trait descriptions were presented to the respondents, and they were asked to evaluate how well the descriptions fit a typical Finn, a typical Russian or them personally. The character trait descriptions included various themes, such as the importance of wealth, willingness to draw attention or take risks, devotion to friends, and importance of tradition. The respondents' social activity and participation in Finland were also charted from the second survey onwards with recurring questions on, for example, whether they spoke Russian/Finnish at home or with friends, read books in Russian/Finnish, and participated in different events. In the fourth survey, political activity was surveyed with questions on whether the respondents followed political discussion, voted and participated in collective activity. Additionally, other recurring questions in the surveys examined, for example, the respondents' satisfaction in their decision to move, their social networks and language skills, the stressfulness of the move as well as general information on the respondents' health and well-being. The respondents' sociodemographic background information was charted thoroughly in this study. Among other things, they were asked about their family, housing arrangements, employment situation, religious affiliation, religiosity and education. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's age (categorised), gender, marital status, financial circumstances, and economic activity and occupational status

Tutkimuskeruuta rahoitti Svenska litteratursällskapet i Finland. The European Values Study is a population-level study charting Finnish moral views, religious and social attitudes and values. The 2018-2019 EVS survey charted the views and attitudes of Swedish-speaking Finns and was conducted in Swedish. The survey focused on equality between groups of people, tolerance, religious behaviour, democracy and citizenship. Data collection was funded by Svenska litteratursällskapet i Finland. The survey is equivalent to the 2017 European Values Study (Finnish Data: FSD3213), except for some questions specifically directed at Swedish-speaking Finns (q63-q66), which focus on health services, living abroad and the use of Finnish and Swedish. First, the respondents were asked what they considered to be the most important things in their lives and how they perceived their happiness and health. The respondents' participation in association work was also queried as well as trust in and prejudice against different groups of people. Next, the respondents were presented with a set of attitudinal statements concerning work which charted, for instance, the most important aspects of work and views on unemployment. The next questions covered the respondents' religious behaviour, relationships and family life. They were asked whether they belonged to a religious community and whether they had religious habits, such as praying or going to the church. The respondents' views were charted on factors affecting the success of a relationship, work division and equality between genders as well as trust in the institution of marriage. They were also asked which characteristics they considered important in a good child. The respondents' political attitudes and behaviour were examined next with questions concerning participation in politics, responsibilities of the individual and of the society, the free market and the future of society. The respondents' trust in different institutions in society was also charted, and views on the state of democracy were examined. For instance, the respondents were asked what they considered the essential features of democracy and how well democracy functioned in Finland at the time of the survey. Finally, the respondents' values were examined with questions concerning, for instance, the acceptability of prostitution or death penalty, regional identity and how it is defined, behaviour in elections and attitudes toward immigrants. The respondents were also presented with attitudinal statements regarding environmental issues, authorities' access to citizens' personal information and social responsibility of relatives, friends and unknown people. Background variables included the respondent's age, gender, marital status, country of birth, number of children, level of education, economic activity, income and parents' educational background. Background information concerning the respondents' spouses was also collected
