The Citizens' Pulse surveys examine Finnish attitudes and opinions in the context of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Main themes in the surveys include the activity and communication of authorities, compliance with regulations, future expectations, trust, and the respondents' own state of mind. The sixth collection round of 2021 surveyed the respondents' opinions on the reliability of the information provided by various Finnish authorities (e.g. the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare) and members of various groups (e.g. health care employees, researchers) on the coronavirus crisis. The respondents were asked to evaluate how fair or unfair they thought Finnish society was at present and how well Finnish authorities (including the Government, Ministries, and other authorities such as the police and the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare) had been prepared for disease outbreaks such as the coronavirus epidemic. The respondents' state of mind was examined with questions on various matters relating to health and well-being. The questions covered, for example, whether the respondents were worried about their own risk or the risk of people close to them of falling ill with COVID-19, the availability of health care for them and people close to them for issues unrelated to COVID-19, and their own mental well-being. Additionally, the respondents' concerns were charted with questions regarding livelihood and everyday life (e.g. whether they were worried about the adequacy of their income or the income of people close to them, the uncertainty regarding how long the exceptional circumstances would last, and their children's schooling). Next, the respondents' confidence in their future and experiences of stress were surveyed, and the respondents were asked to evaluate whether an atmosphere of crisis prevailed amongst Finns. The availability and findability of relevant information on the coronavirus crisis was charted. The respondents were asked whether they thought the communication of authorities had been impartial, reliable, valid, clear, swift, and open. Compliance with coronavirus restrictions was examined by asking the respondents whether they had observed the restrictions and recommendations set by authorities for preventing transmission of the virus, including maintaining safe distances, washing hands regularly, wearing a face mask, avoiding touching the eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands, using a hand sanitiser when available in public places, and minimising contacts with people outside immediate family and friends. Finally, the respondents' views on the coronavirus vaccine and the latest Government plan for lifting the restrictions imposed due to COVID-19, published shortly before the sixth data collection round, were surveyed. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age group, NUTS3 region of residence, highest level of education, household composition, and perceived financial situation of household

Aineisto on kerätty osana Suomen perustulokokeilua (2017-2018). Vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan omia työllistymismahdollisuuksiaan ja kertomaan, mitä kautta he olivat löytäneet töitä. Tutkittavat arvioivat tyytyväisyyttään elämäänsä, yleistä terveydentilaansa sekä työkykyään. He myös kertoivat, kuinka usein olivat käyneet kuluneen kahden vuoden aikana muun muassa terveydenhoitajan tai sairaalalääkärin vastaanotolla. Vastaajat kertoivat, kuinka usein he kokevat olonsa yksinäiseksi tai ovatko he kokeneet itsensä alakuloiseksi tai hermostuneeksi. Tutkittavilta kysyttiin, mistä lähteistä heidän kotitaloutensa tulot koostuvat, sekä miten he tulevat nykyisillä tuloilla toimeen. This survey was conducted as part of the Finnish basic income experiment (2017-2018). During the experiment, a total of 2,000 unemployed persons between 25 and 58 years of age received an unconditional monthly payment of 560 euros. The test group in this study includes those who received basic income in the experiment, and the control group consists of persons who had received unemployment benefits in November 2016. Main themes of the survey included social and financial well-being, subjective health, job-search activity and employment. Additionally, attitudes regarding basic income and other social security were charted. The study was funded by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela). First, the respondents' status in employment was surveyed and the ways in which the respondents had found work in the past few years were charted (e.g. by responding to a job advertisement, through a TE office, through an acquaintance). The respondents' general satisfaction with life was examined, and they were asked to what extent they felt they had been able to achieve various things in their life (e.g. confidence in their own future or financial situation, opportunity to influence social issues). Some questions focused on the respondents' health in general as well as their use of various health care services (e.g. number of visits to a nurse, general practitioner or dentist). The respondents were also presented with questions on how they had been feeling in the past four weeks, for example, whether they had felt very nervous or happy. Feelings of depression, loss of interest in things and stress were also surveyed. The sources from which the respondents' household got income were examined next, and they were asked how well they got by with the current income of their household. The respondents' views on several statements regarding their own financial affairs were charted (e.g. "my finances are well under control and I pay my bills on time" and "I can manage my finances without unnecessary bureaucracy"). Trust in other people and various institutions, such as Parliament, the judicial system, politicians, and the social security system, was examined. The respondents were asked whether they would vote if the parliamentary elections were held now. Finally, the respondents were presented with various statements on basic income, for example, whether they thought implementing basic income would reduce the bureaucracy involved in taking on work and whether basic income should be implemented as a permanent form of social security in Finland. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, highest level of education, economic activity and occupational status, household composition, number of children, annual gross income of the household and the respondent, status in employment, the year when the respondent became unemployed, NUTS2 region of residence, and statistical grouping of municipalities

Ensimmäinen kysely on kerätty tutkimuksen alussa (kyselylomake A, muuttujissa tunnus a) ja toinen kysely kuuden kuukauden kuluttua alkukyselystä (kyselylomake B, muuttujan tunnus b). Kysymyksiä on poimittu mm. The data consist of two surveys aimed at young people not in employment, education or training (NEET). The surveys charted the young people's social participation, mental and physical well-being, and use of social and health services. Main themes in the surveys included living conditions, quality of life, social relationships, use of social and health services, lifestyle, and social media use. The baseline survey was conducted at the beginning of the research (questionnaire A, variables marked with a) and the second survey six months after the baseline survey (questionnaire B, variables marked with b). The respondents were randomly assigned into test and control groups based on the baseline survey. The test group participated in online group discussion that covered topics such as loneliness and hobbies. The group discussions were held on the heimo.co website and led by youth work professionals. The respondents in the control group were offered conventional targeted youth work services. All in all, four moderated discussion groups were organised for nine weeks in collaboration with the departments of youth services in three cities in Finland. The data were collected as part of the Inclusive Promotion of Health and Wellbeing (PROMEQ 2016-2019) research project, which studied population groups that need special support. The aim of the PROMEQ project was to develop and demonstrate novel models of promotion of health and wellbeing. Survey data from the other target groups of the project as well as combined data from all surveys are also available at FSD (FSD3433-FSD3436). The surveys included many scales and questions used in other studies. Questions were selected, for instance, from the Finnish Youth Surveys, as well as the Regional Health and Well-being Study (ATH) and Welfare and Services in Finland (HYPA) surveys conducted by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). Most questions included in the baseline survey were repeated in the follow-up survey. First, the surveys charted the respondents' living conditions, income, loans, and need for financial aid or food assistance. The respondents' health, well-being and quality of life were examined with questions on, for example, how satisfied the respondents were with their health, how much they had enjoyed life in the past two weeks, how safe and secure they felt in their everyday life, and whether they had enough energy and drive for their daily life. Satisfaction with different spheres of life was also surveyed with questions regarding, for example, quality of sleep, capacity to work, relationships, and support received from friends. Social relationships and trust were examined next. The respondents were asked whether they often felt lonely and whether they were often in contact with their friends, partner, or family. Questions also focused on the respondents' sociability and feelings of belonging (e.g. whether they felt they were a part of a friend group, had much in common with people around them, and could find company when they wanted to, or whether they felt left out and isolated). The respondents' participation in group activities and use of social media were charted. Questions on social media use included, for instance, how often the respondents read or commented on posts by other people and how often they posted on social media themselves. Trust in other people and various institutions, such as public health care, the judicial system, and municipal decision-making, was then examined. The respondents' opinions on their own opportunities in life were also surveyed (e.g. whether they thought they had good or bad opportunities to strive for happiness in life and to act according to their conscience). Next, the respondents' use of social and health services was surveyed. The respondents were asked whether they had visited a doctor or other health or social services professional or received services that promote employment in the past 12 months. Additionally, the respondents were asked whether they had bought medication, met with a youth employee, or been otherwise in contact with social and health care employees or youth employees in the past 12 months. Questions also focused on basic social assistance, the respondents' satisfaction with the availability of various social and public services (e.g. library, indoor exercise and youth services), and their participation in group activities promoting health and well-being (e.g. weight management groups, AA, NA). Finally, the respondents' lifestyle was examined with questions focusing on their exercise, eating, and drinking habits. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, year of birth, marital status, household composition, housing tenure, highest level of education, economic activity and occupational status, and household income

Heiltä tiedusteltiin, ovatko he toimineet tietyissä kunnallisissa luottamustehtävissä, järjestöissä tai yhdistyksissä. Lopuksi kartoitettiin, ketkä auttavat vastaajia erilaisissa vaalikampanjointiin liittyvissä asioissa. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat sukupuoli, ikä, tietoja vastaajan ja hänen vanhempiensa synnyinmaasta, vastaajan iästä Suomeen muuttaessa, maahanmuuton syistä, Suomen kansalaisuudesta, äidinkieli, kielitaito, koulutus ja sen pääasiallinen suoritusmaa, opiskeluvuodet, siviilisääty, perherakenne, ehdokaskunnassa asuttujen vuosien määrä, aluemuuttuja, ammattiasema, millä sektorilla työskentelee, ammattiliittoon liittyviä muuttujia, tulot, yhteiskuntaluokka ja muutama muuttuja uskonnollisuuteen liittyen. The study charted the background and motives of foreign language speaking election candidates as well as their networks and support for standing for the election. First, reasons behind the decision to stand for election in the municipal elections (e.g. the will to help others, to acquire useful skills for work, to implement the political values of their party) and what or who (e.g. friends, trade union, employer) had encouraged the candidates to stand for election were charted. The respondents' political opinions and ideology were examined with attitudinal statements regarding the direction of Finland's future, such as lower taxation or more environmentally friendly policies. Influences behind the respondents' political opinions were also examined (e.g. how important their friends, spouse or the media were in influencing their opinions). The respondents were asked whose representative they thought they would be as local councillors (e.g. those who had voted for them or all residents of the municipality), their satisfaction in democracy in Finland and their municipality as well as trust in various institutions (e.g. current local councillors, Finland's government). The respondents' political campaign was surveyed with questions concerning, for example, how much time and money they had spent on the campaign and how the funding had been spent (e.g. for campaign video or radio/TV advertising). The respondents were asked whether they had stood for election in various different elections before, whether they had been selected in those elections and how many times. The factors behind them being chosen as a candidate of a party or constituency association (e.g. professional experience, position within the party, extensive local network of acquaintances) were examined. The respondents were also asked whether they currently held or had previously held positions of trust in their municipality of residence or participated in the work of different organisations. Finally, the help the respondents received from their family, friends or acquaintances in different aspects of their political campaign (e.g. coordinating schedule and budget, maintaining social media accounts, emotional support) was charted. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, age, information on their own and their parents' country of birth, age when moved to Finland, reasons for moving to Finland, mother tongue, Finnish and Swedish language skills, level of education, type of municipality of residence, occupational status, trade union membership, left-right political self-placement, income, perceived social class and religious affiliation

Kysymyksiä on poimittu mm. The survey charted the social participation, mental and physical well-being, use of social and health services, and satisfaction with life of Finnish people aged over 65. The data were collected as part of the Inclusive Promotion of Health and Wellbeing (PROMEQ 2016-2019) research project, which studied population groups that need special support. The aim of the PROMEQ project was to develop and demonstrate novel models of promotion of health and wellbeing. Survey data from the other target groups of the project as well as combined data from all surveys are also available at FSD (FSD3432-FSD3436). The respondents were assigned into test and control groups. Three surveys were conducted in total: a baseline survey (Questionnaire A) was conducted at the beginning of the research and two follow-up surveys were collected three (Questionnaire B) and six months (Questionnaire C) after the baseline survey. All three surveys are included in this dataset. The test group received social support, guidance, and counselling services, and participated in different inclusive activities. The control group participants were offered conventional services if they sought help. The services offered to the test group included, for instance, inclusive case management aimed at the elderly living at home and at risk of social exclusion because of loneliness or feelings of unsafety. The case management was organised in the form of five group meetings during a six-month period. 6-8 people aged 65 and over, the case manager for the region, and one of the researchers participated in each meeting. Most questions included in the baseline survey were repeated in the follow-up surveys. First, the surveys charted the respondents' living conditions, income, loans and need for financial aid or food assistance. The respondents' health, well-being and quality of life was examined with questions on, for example, how satisfied the respondents were with their health, how much they had enjoyed life in the past two weeks, how safe and secure they felt in their everyday life, and whether they had enough energy and drive for their daily life. Satisfaction with different spheres of life was also surveyed with questions regarding, for example, quality of sleep, capacity to work, relationships, and support received from friends. Social relationships and trust were examined next. The respondents were asked whether they often felt lonely and whether they had ever been discriminated based on factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, or financial situation. Questions also focused on the respondents' sociability and feelings of belonging (e.g. whether they felt they were a part of a friend group, had much in common with people around them, and could find company when they wanted to, or whether they felt left out and isolated). The respondents' trust in other people and various institutions, such as public health care, the judicial system, and municipal decision-making, was examined. The respondents' opinions on their own opportunities in life were also surveyed (e.g. whether they thought they had good or bad opportunities to strive for happiness in their life and to act according to their conscience). Barriers to social participation were examined, and the respondents were asked whether there were obstacles that prevented them or made it difficult for them to meet other people outside their home (e.g. memory problems, difficulties moving outside, fear of social situations, or poor self-esteem). Next, big life changes were surveyed. The respondents were asked whether they had experienced any negative or unpleasant changes (e.g. serious illness, losing their partner, decrease in income) or any positive or interesting changes (e.g. finding a new partner or friend, significant improvement in health) in the past year. Participation and interest in events and activities arranged by various organisers, such as pensioners' organisations, parishes, or sports clubs, was also examined. The respondents' general happiness and satisfaction was investigated with statements concerning, for example, whether they knew how they wanted to live their life, had enough joy in their life, and felt useful. Finally, the respondents' use of social and health services was surveyed. The respondents were asked whether they had visited a doctor or other health or social services professional or received support services (e.g. cooking, cleaning or transport services) in the past 12 months (3 or 6 months in the follow-up survey). Additionally, the respondents were asked whether they had been treated in various health care facilities or bought medication during the past year. Questions also focused on basic social assistance, the respondents' satisfaction with the availability of various social and public services, and the respondents' participation in group activities promoting health and well-being (e.g. weight management groups, AA, NA). The respondents' lifestyle was also examined with questions on their exercise, eating and drinking habits. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, year of birth, marital status, highest level of education, household composition, and economic activity and occupational status. Additionally, the background information included whether the respondent belonged to the test or control group

Aineisto on kerätty osana Suomen Akatemian Eco-welfare -hanketta. Taustatietona kysyttiin sukupuolta, ikäryhmää, perhevaihetta ja työmarkkina-asemaa. Arkistoinnin yhteydessä taustatiedoista tuotettiin erillinen html-hakemisto, jonka avulla aineistoa on helppo selata. The dataset consists of writings by Petäjävesi residents regarding the 2019 water crisis, which was caused by groundwater contamination. For several weeks during the crisis, the use of tap water for domestic consumption was either completely prohibited or heavily controlled in some areas of Petäjävesi. The participants were asked to describe how the water crisis had affected their lives and the lives of people close to them. The themes provided to guide the writing included, for example, how the participants had reduced their water consumption and whether any particular experiences had stuck in the participants' minds relating to the water crisis. The data were collected as part of the Eco-welfare project of the Academy of Finland. Background information included gender, age group, family status, and employment status. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD. The dataset is only available in Finnish
