Finnish Memories of Game Music 2020
Aineisto koostuu 177 vapaamuotoisesta kirjoitusvastauksesta, joissa kerrotaan pelaamiseen ja pelimusiikkiin liittyvistä muistoista ja kokemuksista. Aineisto on kerätty osana Game Music Everyday Memories (GAMEM) -tutkimushanketta, jota on rahoittanut Koneen säätiö. Aineistosta on tehty html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla kirjoituksia on helppo selata. The dataset consists of 177 texts written on memories and experiences related to games and game music. The data were collected as part of the Game Music Everyday Memories (GAMEM) project, funded by Kone Foundation. The writing guidelines instructed the writers to discuss important and meaningful memories related to game music. The participants were asked to write about, among other topics, the reasons why a specific game music memory was meaningful to them, what kinds of emotions and thoughts were connected to the memory, how playing the game was part of the memory, and what kind of relationship they have to the game. Main themes in the texts included different games and their contents and the experiences and emotions brought about by game music. Background information included the writer's gender, age, gaming activity and the time spent daily on games and game music. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD. The dataset is only available in Finnish
Finnish Views on the Copyright System 2019
Painopiste on internetissä tapahtuvassa käytössä. Tutkimushanke on osa Cuporen hankekokonaisuutta Tekijänoikeusjärjestelmän toimivuuden jatkuva arviointi. Vastaajilta kysyttiin, mitä verkkosisältöä (musiikki, elokuva, äänikirja, jne.) he ovat luvallisesti käyttäneet. Vastaajilta kysyttiin muun muassa millaisia teoksia he ovat luoneet, ovatko he käyttäneet muiden tekemiä sisältöjä osana omaa teosta ja onko niiden käyttöön pyydetty lupaa. Lopuksi vastaajia pyydettiin kertomaan keskeisimpiä tekijänoikeuteen liittyviä ongelmia sekä miten he toivoisivat Suomen tekijänoikeuslainsäädännön kehittyvän. Aineiston taustamuuttujia ovat sukupuoli, ikä, äidinkieli, ammatti, talouden tyyppi, asunnon tyyppi, kotona olevien alle 18-vuotiaiden lasten iät ja lukumäärä, ruokakunnan koko, koulutus, tuloluokka, tietoa talouden eniten ansaitsevasta henkilöstä sekä erilaiset aluemuuttujat kuten maakunta, asukasmäärä ja tilastollinen kuntaryhmitys. The survey charted Finnish views on the copyright system. Main themes included the respondents' knowledge of intellectual property law, legal use of copyrighted material, own creative activity and creative reuse of copyrighted material, illegal use of copyrighted material, and opinions on the copyright system. The questions were mainly posed in the context of the Internet. The study was conducted as part of the Center for Cultural Policy Research (Cupore) research project 'Assessment of the Finnish Copyright System'. The project is funded by a subsidy granted to Cupore by the Ministry of Education and Culture. First, the survey charted the respondents' self-perceived knowledge of intellectual property law, whether the respondents thought information on copyright issues was sufficiently available to them, and from which sources they had received information on matters related to copyright (e.g. friends or colleagues, news media, school, training provided by workplace, Internet services on legal information). The respondents were asked about their legal use of copyrighted material, such as listening to music or watching movies or series on streaming services, downloading music or movies/TV series, listening to audiobooks or podcasts, or downloading digital games. They were also asked which of the previously mentioned online materials they had used at least once a week in the past month. Sharing of online content produced by others, such as photos, music or videos, was surveyed next, and the respondents were asked whether they had come across any content that they were not sure they were allowed to share and whether they had shared the content anyway. Next, the respondents were asked about online copyrighted content that they had produced and shared themselves. The use of copyrighted material produced by others as part of their own content was examined, and the respondents were asked whether they had asked the original creator's permission to include their material, and if not, why they hadn't. Problems with attaining a permission to use copyrighted material and the use of the respondents' own copyrighted material by others were also charted. The respondents were asked whether they had knowingly used or shared online material that was illegally available in the past 12 months and if yes, why (e.g. the supply of legal content was insufficient, they were unwilling to pay for the material, illegally distributed material was easier to get and more quickly available). Finally, the respondents' views on how easy it is to recognise copyrighted material on the Internet were surveyed. Reasons for using legally available over illegally available content were also examined (e.g. because the respondents thought that the law should be followed or that the legally available content was of better quality). The respondents' opinions on various statements concerning the copyright system were charted, for example, whether they thought that creators should receive compensation when their content is used, that the copyright system is too restrictive, and that intellectual property law is unnecessary. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, mother tongue, occupation, household composition, type of accommodation, number and ages of children aged under 18 in the household, household size, level of education, income, and regional variables such as NUTS3 region of residence, number of inhabitants in municipality of residence, and statistical grouping of municipalities
Finnish National Election Study 2019
Vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan, mitä piirteitä he pitävät tärkeinä siinä, että henkilöä voidaan pitää suomalaisena. This survey focused on the 2019 parliamentary elections in Finland. Main themes included political participation, political attitudes, party allegiance, candidate and party choice, and voting behaviour. Further topics included citizens' initiative, different ways of having a say in matters, and future prospects of Finland. The data were collected after the elections through face-to-face interviews and a self-administered drop-off questionnaire. The interview data contain Finland's contribution to the international CSES study (module 5). Data collection was funded by the Ministry of Justice. First questions in the interview covered the respondents' interest in politics, attention paid to media coverage of the elections (including social media), Internet use, discussions about politics with others, party identification and self-perceived social class. The respondents were asked to what extent they agreed with some statements relating to voting, democracy, the electoral system, and decision-making. Willingness to influence things by own activity (for instance, by participating in a demonstration or joining a consumer boycott) was charted as well as membership in a political party. Concerning citizens' initiative, the respondents were asked whether they thought the introduction of the initiative had promoted democracy in Finland and whether they had signed any initiatives. Opinions on the importance of the Internet and social media as channels of civic engagement were surveyed. The survey also carried a set of attitudinal statements on voting, politics, political parties, politicians and public political influence (e.g. 'I have no say in what the Government and Parliament decide' or 'By voting, ordinary people can influence political decision-making'). With regard to the future prospects of Finland, the respondents were asked which future directions they thought sounded good or bad (e.g. 'more entrepreneurship and market economy', 'better equality between men and women'). The CSES module first explored the respondents' opinions on politicians and their actions, and immigration. Views on whether various factors contributed to being truly Finnish, whether corruption was widespread among politicians, whether the Government should take measures to bridge the income gap, and whether it made a difference who was in power or who people voted for were also charted. The respondents were asked to place themselves and the parties on a left-right axis. Questions also covered satisfaction with democracy in Finland and whether the respondents felt close to any party. Voting behaviour was studied with questions on whether the respondents had voted, the candidate of which party they had voted for, whether they had considered voting for a candidate of any other party and if yes, which party, whether they had voted in the previous parliamentary elections and which party they had voted for. Opinions on the parties in general as well as individual party leaders were surveyed. Finally, the respondents' factual knowledge of politics was tested with a few questions. Non-voters were asked why they had not voted and how self-evident not voting had been to them. All those who had voted were asked what had influenced their choice of party, to what extent various issues had influenced their candidate choice, whether they had voted for a candidate who was of the same age and gender as themselves, and when they had decided which candidate and party to vote for. Trust in government and other institutions, groups and people was charted as well as views on the performance of the Government in the previous electoral term. The self-administered questionnaire first surveyed the respondents' opinions on how easy it was to detect how the policy objectives of parties differed, how well the previous Government had handled various issues, and which issues they had found interesting in election campaigns. The respondents were also asked to what extent they agreed with a set of statements concerning current political issues (e.g. that Finland should leave the EU, Finland is too eager to meet the EU's environment and climate goals, and the right of same-sex couples to marry or adopt is a good thing) and the parliamentary elections (e.g. whether electoral legislation was unfair to smaller parties and voting had been made easy). The sources from which the respondents got relevant information for their voting choice were examined (e.g. family or friends, newspapers, TV, social media), and the respondents were asked whether they had noticed any forms of electoral disruption in the elections as well as whether they thought various forms of electoral disruption were possible in future elections. Online voting and political activities and participation on the Internet were charted, as well as time spent on following news and other programmes on politics and topical issues. The extent to which the respondents came across different political opinions, news and other information on the Internet was studied. Other topics included views on whether male or female politicians were better able to work in various policy sectors and opinions on the decision-making process of Finnish political parties as well as on whether promises had been fulfilled by parties after the 2015 parliamentary elections. The respondents' perceptions of their own financial situation and the Finnish economy and employment situation were also charted, as well as their satisfaction with their own life. Finally, personality traits of the respondents were surveyed using the Ten-item personality inventory (TIPI). Variables beginning with 'k' are national election study variables, 'q' denotes CSES variables, 'p' denotes variables in the self-administered questionnaire, 'a' denotes CSES administrative variables and 'd' denotes background variables. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's year of birth, gender, education, marital status, health status, trade union membership, economic activity and occupational status, employer type, unemployment periods, religiosity and religious attendance, mother tongue, gross annual household income, number of people in the household, type of neighbourhood/municipality, and electoral district
Medication Management Skills of Nursing Students in Finland and the Baltic Countries 2018-2019
Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin sairaanhoitajaopiskelijoiden lääkehoidon osaamista Suomessa ja Baltiassa. Tutkimus on osa Erasmus+ Strategic Partnershipin rahoittamaa the eMedication Passport (eMED-PASS) -hanketta, jonka pyrkimyksenä on lisätä potilas- ja lääketurvallisuutta kehittämällä sairaanhoitajaopiskelijoiden korkeakoulutusta. Viimeisenä selvitettiin opiskelijoiden lääkehoidon osaamista monivalintakysymyksiä sisältäneellä MCAF (Medication Competence and Associated Factors) -testillä. The survey charted the medication competence and working life skills of graduating nurses in Finland and the Baltic countries. The survey was conducted as part of the eMedication Passport (eMED-PASS) project, funded by Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership. The goal of the research project was to increase patient and medication safety in partner countries by developing the educational preparation of nurses. The main aim of the project was to test the electronic Medication Passport, developed in Finland, in higher nursing education in the Baltic countries. The digital learning tool was created to support, ensure and assess the development of the required medication competence of nurse graduates. The project was co-funded by the project partners together with Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership. The partners in the project included Turku University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Tartu Health Care College (Coordinator, Estonia), P.Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia (Latvia), Kauno kolegija/ University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania). The data consist of survey responses from nursing students in higher education in Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The study included two rounds: a pre-questionnaire conducted before the testing of the eMedication Passport, and then a post-questionnaire conducted after the testing. In Finland, only the pre-questionnaire was conducted. First, the respondents' perceptions of studies related to medication management were examined with questions on, for example, whether they were satisfied with the amount of medication management education, felt motivated to study related topics, and had actively maintained their medication competence. The respondents were also asked about learning medication management in clinical practice. Questions included, for example, whether they had had enough possibilities to practice medication management in clinical practice, felt they had been expected to have better medication competence than they actually did, and felt that they had had a positive experience with nurse mentors in clinical practice. Finally, the respondents' medication competence was evaluated with a test focusing on medication management legislation and commonly used abbreviations, pharmacology, medication administration, medication calculations, and patient vignettes. Background variables included the respondent's age, country of residence, year of study, number of clinical practice periods completed, work experience in health care, current job title, grades in examination on theoretical basis of pharmacotherapy, and whether they had passed the medication calculation exam
Finnish Working Life Barometer 2019
Työolobarometrit selvittävät suomalaisen työelämän laatua ja työolojen muutosta palkansaajien näkökulmasta. Vuoden 2019 työolobarometri käsitteli mm. työpaikan henkilöstössä ja omassa työnkuvassa tapahtuneita muutoksia, vaikutusmahdollisuuksia, syrjintää, työpaikkakiusaamista, työkykyä sekä työntekijöiden näkemyksiä omasta työtilanteesta ja työelämän kehityksestä. Työolobarometrien sisältö on pysynyt pääosin samanlaisena eri vuosina. The annual survey studied employee opinion on the quality of working life in Finland. Main themes included organisation of work, development opportunities and flexibility, learning and training at work, wages, workplace bullying, capacity to work, and changes in working life. Questions in the barometer have mainly remained the same each year. The 2019 collection round included new questions regarding work engagement, stress and perceived workload. First, the respondents were asked about the number of people employed at their workplace, changes in the number of staff, distribution of work and tasks, and implementation of new working methods and systems over the past 12 months. Satisfaction in the working environment was charted with questions about openness, encouragement and equality in the workplace, job stability, and opportunities for employees to develop and apply new ideas. Further questions covered measures taken to improve employees' capacity to work, safety of work environment, and skills of employees. Discrimination at work based on ethnic group, age, gender, type of job contract, and health status was explored. Incidents of bullying, harassment and violence at work were surveyed. The next set of questions investigated the respondents' membership in a trade union or professional association, flexible working time arrangements at the workplace, pay and bonus systems, and satisfaction with the pay level. The respondents' participation in job-related training and the contents of the training (e.g. IT, leadership skills, communication skills) were surveyed. The development of the workplace was also investigated. The use of virtual workspaces and social media services such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs as part of work tasks was charted. Autonomy at work was surveyed by asking about influence over own work tasks and working pace, over the distribution of work in the workplace, and about working to a tight schedule. The respondents were asked about working outside the main workplace as well as work-related calls, emails and messages they had had to attend to outside their official working hours in the past 12 months. One set of questions investigated the employees' perceived workload, capacity to work, estimates of own mental and physical capacity to work, and sickness absences. Additionally, the respondents' experiences of stress, mental exhaustion, and excitement related to work were surveyed. The respondents were asked how likely they thought it was that they would be dismissed or temporarily laid off, or that their tasks would change over the next year. Finally, views were probed on the respondents' likelihood of getting an equal job if they became unemployed, on the general employment situation in Finland, possible changes in working life in general, and the employer's financial situation. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's year of birth, age, gender, status in employment, employer type, industry of employment, type of contract, weekly working hours, overtime, and socioeconomic status
Experiences on Partner's Mental Health Problems in Families with Children 2020

Participation in the campaign was possible for both individuals and communities. Art and culture and the activities related to them were defined by the participants. This dataset consists of responses to two forms that were completed by individual participants before and after participating in the campaign. The campaign was funded and conducted by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (TAIKE). 250 individual participants completed the first form before participating in the campaign and consented to the archiving of their responses. The participants discussed the role of art and culture in their lives at the starting point of the campaign as well as their expectations for the campaign. Additionally, 25 individual participants completed the second form after participating in the campaign and consented to the archiving of their responses. In the responses to the second form, the participants discussed the role of art and culture in their lives after the campaign had ended as well as how their expectations regarding the campaign had realised and how they intended to continue including art and culture in their lives. Background information included the date when the form was completed and the participant's gender, year of birth and situation in life. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD. This dataset can be connected to the two other datasets collected as part of the 100 Minutes of Art campaign: FSD3407 100 Minutes of Art 2019: Communities and FSD3410 100 Minutes of Art 2019: Entries in the Taidepassi Participation Diary. The dataset is only available in Finnish
Finnish Archaeological Finds Recording Linked Open Database: Survey on User Needs 2018
Aineistossa kartoitetaan Suomen arkeologisten löytöjen linkitetyn tietokannan tulevien käyttäjien toiveita ja tarpeita Löytösampo-tietokannan suhteen. Aineisto on kerätty osana monitieteistä Suomen arkeologisten löytöjen linkitetty tietokanta (SuALT) -hanketta, jossa kehitetään innovatiivisia palveluita metallinetsijöille ja muille arkeologian harrastajille soveltamalla semanttisia teknologioita kansalaistieteeseen. Hankkeen on rahoittanut Suomen Akatemia. The survey charted user needs and expectations regarding the FindSampo database, which aims to foster collecting, sharing, publishing, and studying archaeological finds discovered by the public. FindSampo is being developed in the Finnish Archaeological Finds Recording Linked Open Database (SuALT) project, which aims to develop innovative solutions to respond to metal detecting and other non-professional encounters with archaeological material, applying semantic computing to "citizen science". The project is funded by the Academy of Finland. The dataset includes both individual and group interviews. 50 persons were interviewed in total. Related interview data collected for the project after the survey are also archived at FSD (dataset FSD3486 Finnish Archaeological Finds Recording Linked Open Database: Interviews on User Needs 2018-2019). The two datasets include some of the same respondents, but they cannot be connected between the datasets. First, the respondents were asked whether they had reported archaeological finds to the Finnish Heritage Agency before and if they had, how many finds they had reported. Additionally, the respondents' experiences and knowledge of both national and international databases were examined. The respondents' expectations for the FindSampo database were surveyed next with questions on, for example, in which languages they though people should be able to report finds, whether they hoped the database would be able to help them identify and date their discoveries or other people's finds, and whether they hoped they could use the database to compare material from Finland with similar data from other countries. Next, views on user roles and types were charted. The respondents were asked whether they thought levels of access should vary based on different user roles, which user types they thought would be useful for the database (e.g. amateur archaeologists or historians, museum professionals, students), and whether they thought roles and statuses should differ between users in Finland and abroad. Motivations for using the database were surveyed with questions on the potential issues that would prevent the respondents from using the database, what opportunities or features would encourage or convince them to use it, and what their own motivations for using the database might be. Finally, the respondents' opinions on the possible features of the database were surveyed with questions on how important they thought various features were for user experience (e.g. and FAQ page, a general blog, possibility to upload pictures, personal profile, monthly competitions, or mobile application). Background variables included the respondent's role, age, education, gender, country of residence, and NUTS3 region of residence (if resided in Finland)
Social Distinctions in Modern Russia 1990
Vastaajia pyydettiin esimerkiksi valitsemaan listasta mitä hyödykkeitä he omistavat. Taustamuuttujina ovat työantajasektori, työllisyyshistoria, ammattiasema, koulutus, ikä, siviilisääty, lasten lukumäärä, lasten ikä, sukupuoli ja kotitalouden kestotavarat. This study is part of a survey series that charts various issues characterising social differentiation in contemporary Russian society. The surveys in the series have been conducted in 1990, 1998, 2006 and 2015, facilitating research on temporal change. Social differentiation in this study was mainly considered in terms of occupation, social mobility, property and income, but attitudes, politics and religion were also examined. The study aimed to survey the respondents' conditions in life together with their values in order to examine the interaction between the two. Most questions in the survey concerned the respondents' working life and the atmosphere of their workplace. Questions focused on, for example, whether the respondents worked for the public or private sector, what kind of company they worked for, what kind of independency and responsibilities the respondents had in their work, whether the respondents were in a decision-making position at work, and what kind of relationship they had with their co-workers. Additionally, the respondents were asked whether they thought their education had provided them with the qualifications needed in their work, whether they attended further training at present, and whether they wanted to continue their studies in the near future and for what reason. The survey also included questions on the respondents' family, childhood, religiosity, friends, and owned property. The socio-economic status of the respondents' parents, spouse/partner and friends was surveyed, and the respondents were asked whether they owned or would like to own various property and items, such as their own house or car, a washing machine, colour television, and computer. Finally, the respondents' views on the socio-economic status of different occupations and their opinions on state and private ownership as well as some social phenomena were surveyed. The respondents were asked, for example, how much they thought people in different occupations (e.g. teachers, engineers, managers, surgeons) earned on average per month and how much they thought people in these occupations should earn. The examined social phenomena included, for example, what the respondents thought were the reasons for the misery and poverty of people. Background variables included the sector in which the respondent worked in, the respondent's employment history, status in employment, education, age, marital status, number of children, ages of children, gender and whether they owned various household durable goods
Citizens' Pulse 9/2021
The Citizens' Pulse surveys examine Finnish attitudes and opinions in the context of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Main themes in the surveys include the activity and communication of authorities, compliance with regulations, future expectations, trust, and the respondents' own state of mind. The ninth collection round of 2021 surveyed the respondents' satisfaction with the way democracy works in Finland, as well as trust in other people and in various institutions, such as the Finnish Government, the health care system, and the media. The respondents were asked to evaluate how well Finnish authorities (including the Government, Ministries, and other authorities such as the police and the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare) had been prepared for epidemics such as COVID-19. The respondents' state of mind was examined with questions on various matters relating to health and well-being. The questions covered, for example, whether the respondents were worried about their own risk or the risk of people close to them contracting COVID-19, the availability of health care for them and people close to them for issues unrelated to COVID-19, and their own mental well-being. Additionally, the respondents' concerns were charted with questions regarding livelihood and everyday life (e.g. whether they were worried about the adequacy of their income or the income of people close to them, the uncertainty regarding how long the exceptional circumstances would last, and their children's schooling). Next, the respondents' confidence in their future and experiences of stress were surveyed. The respondents were asked to evaluate whether an atmosphere of crisis prevailed amongst Finns. The availability and findability of relevant information on the coronavirus crisis was charted. Compliance with coronavirus restrictions was examined by asking the respondents whether they had followed the restrictions and recommendations set by authorities for preventing transmission of the virus, including maintaining safe distances, washing hands regularly, wearing a face mask, avoiding touching the eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands, using a hand sanitiser when it was available in public places, and minimising contacts with people outside immediate family and friends. The respondents' views on the coronavirus vaccine were also surveyed, including whether they would be willing to get a COVID-19 vaccine for themselves or for their children. Finally, some questions on the 2021 municipal elections were presented. The respondents were asked whether they had voted in the elections and if yes, whether they thought voting had been made safe, their trust in Finnish election authorities had decreased because of the elections, and that general discussion on the elections had been respectful. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age group, NUTS3 region of residence, highest level of education, household composition, and perceived financial situation of household
