Taustamuuttujina olivat muiden muassa sukupuoli, ikä, työelämään osallistuminen, ammatti/asema, koulutus, elämäntilanne, kotona asuvien lasten iät ja lukumäärä, perheen tuloluokka, ruokakunnan koko, asunnon tyyppi, aluemuuttujia sekä puoluekanta.A condensed version of the annual Finnish Opinions on Security Policy National Defence survey charted Finnish public opinion on foreign policy, defence policy, security, military alliances, and international armed conflicts at the time of the survey. Views on whether Finland should resort to armed defence in case of any sort of attack and whether the respondents would be prepared to participate in national defence according to their abilities were investigated. Opinions on Finland's military non-alignment were examined by asking the respondents whether Finland should join a military alliance or remain militarily non-aligned. The respondents were also asked whether Finland should apply for NATO membership and whether they trusted the ability of the Finnish Defence Forces to defend Finland against military threats. Next, the respondents' opinions on Finnish military cooperation in the EU, with NATO, other Nordic countries, and the United States were charted. The respondents were asked to evaluate the impact of several countries and organisations, such as Russia, China, US, UN, NATO and EU, on Finland's security. Views on how the military situation in nearby regions would develop during the next decade were also examined. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, age, economic activity and occupational status, household composition, ages of children living at home (categorised), gross annual income of the household, level of education, type of accommodation, region of residence, number of inhabitants in the municipality of residence, political party choice in the previous parliamentary elections, and political party choice if the parliamentary elections were held at the time of the survey
Police Barometer 2018
Poliisin mahdollista korruptiota tiedusteltiin. Lopuksi kysyttiin, mitä velvollisuuksia vastaajilla on poliisia kohtaan ja kuinka usein vastaajat seuraavat uutisia eri uutiskanavista. Taustamuuttujia olivat vastaajan sukupuoli, ikä, äidinkieli, koulutus, työmarkkina-asema, tuloluokka, kuntakoko, suuralue sekä vastaajan tai hänen lähisukulaisensa työskentely poliisissa. The Police Barometer surveys study Finnish public opinion on the role and services of the police, feelings about safety and security, fear of crime, experiences of crime, and trust in the national institutions in crime prevention. The 2018 survey was funded by the Ministry of the Interior. Initially, respondents assessed the ability of the police to guarantee public order and security in Finland, the importance of various tasks in police work (e.g. solving different types of crime, traffic control, emergency response, police patrol), and the significance of different monitoring methods (e.g. speed limit enforcement, road-side checks) in terms of traffic safety. Sense of security and fear of crime were studied by asking how worried the respondents were about certain issues (e.g. assaults, burglaries, drunk driving, sexual harassment, cybercrime). Respondents were asked to identify circumstances in which they feel unsafe in if they are alone (e.g. at home during the day, in the town centre after dark after dark, or in a residential area late on Friday and Saturday nights). Views on how serious a problem crime was in the respondents' own neighbourhoods were also examined. The respondents were asked whether they themselves had become victims of certain crimes, whether they had reported the crime to the police, and if not, why. Further questions surveyed whether the respondents had been eyewitnesses to any crimes (e.g. burglaries or car theft) or witnesses/complainants in a criminal procedure, and whether they had experienced a threat or pressure from somebody subjected to a criminal procedure. Opinions on the accessibility and visibility of the police were examined by asking what the distance was from the respondent's home to the nearest police station, how long they thought it would take for the police to respond to an emergency, and whether the respondents had used the online services of the police. The quality of police services was assessed with questions about the last time the respondents had contacted the police, reasons for doing so, and how they had been treated. The respondents also rated how well the police had succeeded in solving crimes, preventing crime, providing help quickly, etc. Opinions on the attitude of the police towards people from different ethnic backgrounds were studied. The survey also charted opinions on the development of the services provided by the police as well as trust in various institutions, such as the police, emergency and protective services, private security guards, the Border Guard, courts, the Customs, and the Defence Forces. Opinions on the likelihood of police corruption and the quality of police conduct were surveyed. The respondents were asked what they felt their own duties towards the police were, and whether based on their own experiences they felt that the police had made obvious mistakes in everyday policing. Finally, the respondents were asked how often they followed news from printed and electronic news channels, and they were asked to identify any recent news stories about the police and police activities, or news stories about crimes, security and threats to security that they remembered hearing. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age group, primary position in the labour market, highest level of education attained, mother tongue, gross annual personal income, municipality and region (NUTS2 and NUTS3) of residence, size of municipality, and whether the respondent, someone in their immediate family or a close relative worked for the police
Perceptions of Workplace Well-being by Early Childhood Education Teachers Working in a Natural Environment 2020
Aineistosta on tehty jatkokäyttäjälle html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla kirjoituksia on helppo selata. The dataset consists of 12 interviews with early childhood education teachers who work in forest nursery groups on their views on and experiences of their jobs and occupational well-being. The interviews were conducted virtually on the Microsoft Teams platform. The interviews consisted of questions that charted the interviewees' work in forest- and nature-oriented early childhood education groups. In forest nursery groups, most of the teaching as well as other nursery activities take place in nature. The interviewees were asked what had led them to work in a forest nursery group, what nature was like as a working environment, and how the natural environment impacted the workplace community. Additionally, the interview included questions on how working in a forest nursery group impacted occupational well-being and how the interviewees' utilised their skills as early childhood educators in the natural environment. Background information included the date on which the interview was held, the interviewee's age group, gender, education, general work experience, and work experience in forest nursery groups. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD. The dataset is only available in Finnish

Main topics of the survey included the 2019 Finnish parliamentary elections and postal voting, which was introduced during the elections. The survey was collected as part of the Facilitating Electoral Participation from Abroad (FACE) research project, and continued to study the themes of a previous survey (FSD3463 Finnish Expatriates' National Identity and Political Participation 2014). Questions surveyed the respondents' voting behaviour, social participation, and general interest in politics. The respondents were asked about following politics in the media, forms of political participation they had engaged in (e.g. signing a petition, participating in a demonstration), participation in citizens' initiatives, and membership and participation in associations and organisations. Voting was examined with questions on, for example, the most important topics affecting the respondent's voting choice, the most effective means for increasing the voter turnout of Finnish expatriates, and the usefulness of postal voting. The respondents were asked how satisfied they were with various aspects related to their own life, Finland, and their country of residence, and their trust in several institutions was examined. The respondents' sources of information on the parliamentary elections, e.g. candidates' or parties' websites or voting advice applications, were also surveyed. The survey included three open-ended questions on how the respondents chose the candidate they voted for or why they did not vote at all, which received a large number of responses (q24, q25 and q30). Responses were written in Finnish, Swedish and English. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, year of birth, highest level of education, occupation, marital status, reasons for moving abroad, current connections to Finland, and perceived social class and status

Main themes in the surveys include the activity and communication of authorities, compliance with regulations, future expectations, trust, and the respondents' own state of mind. This collection round also included questions about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and preparing for crisis situations. The seventh collection round of 2022 surveyed the respondents' trust in various institutions (e.g. the Finnish Government, the health care system, the media, and the Finnish Defence Forces), as well as other people. The respondents' state of mind was examined with questions on various matters relating to health, well-being, and their situation in life. The questions covered, for example, the respondents' own mental well-being, whether they were worried about the adequacy of their income, their confidence in their future, experiences of stress and togetherness, and whether they felt their lives were meaningful. Additionally, the respondents were asked to evaluate whether an atmosphere of crisis prevailed amongst Finns and how Finland's application to join NATO had impacted the respondents' sense of safety. The next set of questions focused on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and crisis situations in general. In relation to the Ukraine crisis, the respondents were, for example, asked about their sense of security, worries caused by the crisis and its possible impact on the Finnish economy and their own financial situation, and whether they were concerned that the war might expand beyond Ukraine. Opinions on the economic sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU, how well authorities had been prepared for crises like the crisis in Ukraine, and whether the uncertainty caused by the Ukraine crisis had impacted the respondents' consumer behaviour were charted. The respondents were also asked whether they had noticed any cyber security issues or instances where purposefully misleading claims based on misinformation were spread on social media or online over the previous month. On the topics of communication and dissemination of information, the respondents' opinions on the availability, reliability and accuracy of the information provided by Finnish authorities on the coronavirus crisis were charted. Compliance with coronavirus restrictions was examined by asking the respondents whether they had followed the restrictions and recommendations set by authorities for preventing transmission of the virus, including maintaining safe distances, wearing a face mask, and minimising contact with other people. The respondents were also asked how necessary they felt it was to follow measures such as wearing a mask and maintaining safe distances after receiving two or three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age group, NUTS3 region of residence, highest level of education, household composition, and perceived financial situation of household

Main themes in the surveys include the activity and communication of authorities, compliance with regulations, future expectations, trust, and the respondents' own state of mind. This collection round also included questions on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and energy conservation. The eleventh collection round of 2022 surveyed the respondents' trust in other people and various institutions (e.g. the Finnish Government, the health care system, the media, and the Finnish Defence Forces). The respondents were asked to evaluate how fair or unfair they thought Finnish society was at present, and their state of mind was examined with questions on various matters relating to health, well-being, and their situation in life. The questions covered, for example, the respondents' own mental well-being, whether they were worried about the adequacy of their income, their confidence in their future, experiences of stress and togetherness, and whether they felt their lives were meaningful and safe. Additionally, the respondents were asked to evaluate whether an atmosphere of crisis prevailed amongst Finns. The next set of questions focused on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The respondents were asked how concerned they were about the crisis in Ukraine and its effects, whether they were concerned about the possible impact of the war on the Finnish economy and the safety of Finland and Europe, and whether they were concerned that the war might expand beyond Ukraine. Opinions on the economic sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU, whether Finland should be ready to receive significant numbers of refugees from Ukraine if necessary, and whether the uncertainty caused by the Ukraine crisis had impacted the respondents' consumer behaviour were charted. Additionally, the respondents were asked how well they personally had prepared for crisis situations (e.g. by stockpiling food and medicine). Those who indicated that they had not made preparations were asked to identify the reasons they had not prepared (e.g. lack of time, feeling that stockpiling was not necessary, lack of information, limited financial resources). On the topic of energy conservation, the respondents were asked how concerned they were about the changes in energy prices, whether they felt they had enough information about ways to conserve energy in their everyday lives, whether they believed that by taking energy-saving measures they could make a difference in the availability of energy during the coming months, and whether they had taken certain measures to lower their energy consumption during the past month (e.g. lowered the room temperature at home, driven less, reduced the use of electronic appliances at home, taken shorter showers). Concern over the coronavirus pandemic and its effects were surveyed. Compliance with coronavirus restrictions was examined by asking the respondents whether in the past week they had followed the restrictions and recommendations set by authorities for preventing transmission of the virus, including maintaining safe distances, wearing a face mask, and minimising contact with other people. The respondents were also asked how necessary they felt it was to follow measures such as wearing a mask and maintaining safe distances after receiving two or three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age group, NUTS3 region of residence, highest level of education, household composition, perceived financial situation of household, type of accommodation, and type of domestic heating system
Child-up: Survey for Teachers 2019
Aineistossa on kartoitettu peruskoulun ja varhaiskasvatuksen opettajien kokemuksia monikulttuurisuudesta, oppilaiden taustoista ja erilaisten oppilaiden tukemisesta kouluissa. Aineisto on kerätty osana Child-up-hanketta, jonka tavoitteena on lisätä ymmärrystä maahanmuuttajataustaisten lasten, nuorten ja heidän huoltajiensa kokemuksista oppilaitoksissa, varhaiskasvatuksessa ja kasvatusyhteisöissä sekä heidän kanssaan työskentelevien ammattilaisten toiminnasta. Aineistoa on kerätty Suomessa, Belgiassa, Saksassa, Ruotsissa, Italiassa, Puolassa ja Iso-Britanniassa. Hankkeen on rahoittanut Euroopan Unionin Horisontti 2020 tutkimus- ja innovaatio-ohjelma. Aluksi opettajilta kysyttiin, minkä verran heidän opettamassaan ryhmässä on oppilaita, joilla on esimerkiksi maahanmuuttaja- tai pakolaistaustaa, tai muita erityistarpeita. Vastaajia pyydettiin myös arvioimaan, kuinka hyvin he itse lapsena sopivat vastaaviin ryhmiin. Vastaajat arvioivat, kuinka hyvin muun muassa vieraskieliset, akateemisesti lahjakkaat tai maahanmuuttajataustaiset oppilaat saavat tukea koulussa. Opettajat myös kertoivat, miten he käyttävät kieliresursseja opetuksessaan. The survey charted the experiences of teachers in basic and pre-school education regarding cultural pluralism and supporting pupils/students with diverse backgrounds. The data were collected as part of the Child-up research project, which aims to enhance understanding on the experiences of migrant children, young people, and their guardians regarding school, pre-school, and educational communities, as well as the experiences of the professionals working with them. Data were collected in Finland, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Poland, and Great Britain. The research project was funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation funding programme. First, the teachers were asked how many pupils/students they had in their class who had an immigrant or refugee background or other special needs, as well as whether they had belonged to similar groups themselves as children. The support provided to pupils in these groups in the teacher's current school was examined. The respondents were also asked how they used linguistic resources in teaching (e.g. whether they used multiple languages in their class or encouraged the pupils to use their native language during breaks). The next questions focused on the respondents' experiences of teacher-parent communication. The respondents were asked about the main communication channel they used with parents as well as how satisfied they were with teacher-parent communication in general. The main reasons for barriers and challenges in teacher-parent communication (e.g. lack of common language, lack of parental interest) were also surveyed. The teachers were asked whether they had encountered various situations, such as pupils facing unfamiliar situations and surroundings or having difficulties in expressing their opinions, in their class during the last school year, as well as how they had discovered these situations and with whom they had collaborated to cope with the situations (e.g. school management, parents). Teacher-pupil relationships and social relationships between classmates and teachers were also examined. The professional expertise available to the respondents to support them in their work, such as psychologists, social workers, and interpreters/language mediators, was surveyed. The teachers were asked how well they thought they could, for example, cope with the challenges of a classroom, adapt to the cultural diversity of pupils/students, and reduce ethnic stereotyping amongst students. The respondents' teaching activities were also examined. Questions included, for example, whether the respondents supported the children's initiatives and allowed them to question their thoughts or decisions. Finally, the respondents' satisfaction with various aspects related to their work was charted, and their opinions were surveyed on several statements relating to e.g. cultural pluralism. Background variables included the respondent's gender, work experience, education background, variety of language use at work, and the ISCED level of their current school/workplace
Climate Barometer 2019
The Climate Barometer 2019 survey investigated Finnish attitudes towards climate change. Main themes of the survey included attitudes towards climate change, climate policy, and the effect of climate change on consumer behaviour. The data were collected by Kantar TNS Finland, and the survey was commissioned and funded by the Finnish Ministry of the Environment (project number: YM037:00/2018) The respondents' opinions on the effects of climate change now and in the future were charted with questions on, for example, whether climate change posed an economic threat to Finland, whether it was urgent to slow down climate change, and whether climate would cause significant harm to the respondents or to the next generation. The topic of climate policy was covered with questions such as whether the Finnish government should make a more active effort to slow down climate change, whether taxes on fossil fuels should be increased, and whether the percentage of green energy consumption in Finland should be increased regardless of the impact that this would have on energy prices. Next, the respondents were surveyed about the measures they had already taken or were planning to take in the next five years to decrease their environmental footprint and to slow down climate change (e.g. cutting back on their electricity use, switching to green energy, voting for parliamentary election candidates who work on climate change issues, carbon offsetting, reducing air travel, giving up private car use, or purchasing an electric car). The respondents were also asked whether they had travelled by plane in the last year. Views on why Finland had not succeeded in slowing down climate change and reducing emissions as fast as necessary were examined. The respondents were asked to identify which factors (e.g. people in Finland are resistant to changing their consumer habits, the prohibitive cost of environmentally friendly products and services, lack of information, policy-makers are not willing to make decisions that risk their re-election) had prevented Finland from reaching targets related to slowing down climate change. Background variables included variables related to device used to respond to the survey, date of response, respondent's gender, age group, type of accommodation, municipality and region (NUTS2 and NUTS3) of residence, political party identification, household composition, occupation group, and perceived financial situation of household
Finnish Youth Survey 2019
Nuorisobarometrin 2019 pääteemoja ovat työ ja yrittäjyys. Aluksi vastaajat määrittelivät, mitä toimintoja he pitävät työnä. Main themes of the Finnish Youth Survey 2019 included employment and entrepreneurship. First, the respondents were asked what they thought of as work and employment (e.g. paid and unpaid work, doing research on grants, being a freelancer). If the respondents were in paid employment or worked as entrepreneurs, they were asked whether their current work tasks corresponded to their education, whether they felt they could clearly separate work and leisure time, and how well several statements described their work (e.g. whether they often had difficulties coping with their work, felt that their work was physically or mentally demanding, or were excited about their work). The respondents' experiences of being bullied or discriminated against at work were also charted, and the views on the importance of various aspects of life (e.g. work, family, material well-being, health) were examined. Regarding occupational choice, the respondents were asked whether they knew what their dream occupation was, as well as whether they currently were in their dream job or their education would lead to their dream job. If the respondents were students, their opinions on the amount of career choice guidance they had received as well as their stress, fear and expectations regarding their future careers were surveyed. All respondents were asked how much impact various factors, such as the people close to them, the Internet or the media, summer jobs, wage levels, own interest, and potential for versatile work tasks and career advancement, had had on their choice of occupation, field, or career. The respondents were also presented with attitudinal statements on unemployment, working life, and their personal work and career situation. Views on entrepreneurship were charted with questions on whether the respondents already were entrepreneurs/self-employed or were planning to start a company in the future, how they had become entrepreneurs, and whether their company already employed or they would want to employ other people. Additionally, the respondents were asked whether there were any entrepreneurs among the people close to them and if their parents were entrepreneurs, whether they wanted to continue their parents' work. Some statements on entrepreneurship, such as whether the respondent had been encouraged to become an entrepreneur and whether they thought entrepreneurship facilitated influencing society, were also included. Finally, the respondents were asked how satisfied they were currently with their work (whether in paid employment or as an entrepreneur/self-employed), financial situation, leisure time, and life as a whole. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, age, region of residence, mother tongue, marital status, level of education, type of employment contract, working hours, economic activity and occupational status, household composition and income, level of education of respondent's mother, father, and spouse/partner, and, if unemployed, length of unemployment period
Depression and Suicidal Thoughts 2019
Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin suomalaisten masentuneisuutta ja itsetuhoisuutta. Kyselyn tilasi viestintätoimisto Manifesto "mitäkuuluu" -kampanjaa varten. "Mitäkuuluu" on viestintätoimisto Manifeston ja luova toimisto Bob the Robotin MIELI Suomen Mielenterveys ry:lle toteuttama kampanja itsemurhien ehkäisemisen tukemiseksi. Kysely toteutettiin IROResearchin Tuhat suomalaista -kuluttajapaneelin avulla. Vastaajilta kysyttiin, kokevatko he itsensä masentuneiksi ja ovatko he harkinneet itsemurhaa. The survey charted Finnish experiences of depression and self-harm.
