Everyday Life and Physical Appearance 2016
The survey charted the role of physical appearance in the respondents' everyday life as well as more generally in Finnish society. The survey was conducted as part of the 'Finland as an appearance society: A population level study of values, attitudes, norms and their changes' research project. The survey continues to study the topics of the Everyday life and Well-being survey collected in 2011. First, the respondents' consumer habits were examined with questions on how often they had bought products related to physical appearance (e.g. clothes, makeup, perfume) in the past 12 months and whether they had bought any of the products from an online store. The respondents were also asked if they had, for example, ever got a piercing or a tattoo, been on a diet, or used workout supplements. The next questions surveyed the importance of physical appearance to the respondents, how the respondents would evaluate their own appearance when compared to their peers, and whether they had received positive or negative comments about their appearance at different points of their lives. Additionally, the respondents were asked whether they thought their appearance had had a positive or negative effect on different elements of their lives (e.g. finding a partner, getting a job, overall satisfaction in life). Various statements related to physical appearance, such as whether the respondents thought they took good care of their appearance, often took pictures of themselves, and had good posture, were also included in the survey. Views on the significance and role of physical appearance in Finnish society were examined next. The respondents were asked to what extent they approved or disapproved various actions, such as exercising to achieve better physical appearance or consciously taking advantage of good looks to get a job, when done by men or women. For these questions (20 and 21), the respondents were divided in half using the split ballot method so that half of the respondents were presented with statements about women and half with statements about men. Next, the respondents' media use was examined. Questions included, for example, how often the respondents watched TV, read books or used the Internet, and for what purposes they used the Internet and how often (e.g. email, online shopping, social media). Finally, the respondents' well-being and perceived social status were charted. The respondents were asked how they would describe their happiness, satisfaction in life, health, and self-esteem, how often they met other people during their leisure time, and how often they were in contact with others through the Internet. The respondents' perceived social class and hobbies were also surveyed. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's year of birth, gender, economic activity and occupational status, level of education, household size, income, and occupation (ISCO-08 classification). Additionally, the occupation of the respondent's spouse/partner and the level of education of the respondent's parents and the parents of their spouse/partner were charted
Åbo Akademi University's Humanities Researchers and Open Access Publishing 2020
Aineistolla kartoitetaan Åbo Akademin humanististen tieteiden, psykologian ja teologian tiedekunnan tutkijoiden asenteita ja kokemuksia open access -julkaisemiseen liittyen. Kysymykset koskivat esimerkiksi vastaajien nykyistä tietämystä open access -julkaisusta sekä näkemyksiä tieteellisestä julkaisutoiminnasta tulevaisuudessa. Kyselyssä selvitettiin aluksi vastaajien tietoisuutta avoimesta tieteellisestä tiedosta sekä näkemyksiä open accessiin liittyen, jonka jälkeen kysyttiin vastaajien omasta julkaisutoiminnasta sekä yliopiston tarjoamasta tuesta open access -julkaisemiseen. Seuraavaksi kartoitettiin vastaajien näkemyksiä siitä, millaisia muutoksia he uskovat tieteellisessä julkaisutoiminnassa tapahtuvan seuraavan kymmenen vuoden aikana. The study surveyed researchers in the Faculty of Arts, Psychology and Theology at Åbo Akademi University on their views on and experiences of open access publishing. Main topics of the survey included the respondents' awareness and knowledge of open access publishing, their own publication activities, institutional support for open access publishing, and the future of open access publishing. The respondents' awareness and knowledge of open access publishing were charted with a series of statements (e.g. I feel confident that I could explain open access to a colleague if asked, I am aware of the ÅAU open science policy, Publicly funded research should be made available to the public without barriers, There are no benefits to open access publishing). Additionally, the respondents' publication activities were examined by asking them whether they had published in a gold open access publication, a hybrid journal, or a research repository in the past two years. The perceived importance of different publication types for publishing research was also investigated, along with factors (e.g. speed of publication, impact factor, the publication is open access) that were relevant to the respondents when selecting which publication to publish in. On the topic of institutional support for open access publishing, the respondents were asked whether they had participated in courses or other education in open access issues offered by Åbo Akademi University library during the past year. The respondents also rated their agreement with statements regarding the institutional support provided by Åbo Akademi University (e.g. My research environment and colleagues at ÅAU are positive about open access, The ÅAU open science policy is right to demand that the research at ÅAU should be made available open access). Next, respondents were asked about their views on the changes they expected to see in scholarly publishing over the next ten years (e.g. Most research will be published open access, Impact factors will continue to be the primary metric in assessing the value of journals). Additionally, the respondents were asked to rank factors that would make their research more openly available and factors that would keep them from publishing open access according to their importance. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's age, gender, and position at Åbo Akademi University

Taustamuuttujina olivat sukupuoli, ikä, asuinkunnan koko, asuinmaakunta, asumismuoto, talouden koko, peruskoulutus, ammatillinen koulutus, koulutusala, kuntaryhmitys, vasemmisto-oikeisto-kanta, yhteiskuntaluokka, talouden vuositulot sekä ammattiryhmä.The survey studied Finnish public opinion on science and scientific-technical development. The study was commissioned by Tieteen tiedotus ry. First, the respondents were asked how interested they were in several topics (e.g. culture and art, sports, environment, politics, technology). The importance of various sources of information on science and scientific development was also surveyed (e.g. newspapers, TV, radio, scientific publications, the internet, social media, seminars and lectures). Next, trust in various institutions (e.g. the Parliament, the church, trade unions, the media, armed forces, universities, the European) and science and research in general was examined. The respondents were also asked to name a Finnish researcher who they felt was trustworthy. The respondents' views on how they expected scientific and technological developments to change people's daily lives in the next 10-20 years were investigated. The respondents were also asked whether they thought that science can solve certain problems or considerably help mankind (e.g. find a cure for cancer, raise the standard of living, stop or delay climate change, eradicate hunger from the world, decrease unemployment, promote peace and democracy). Additionally, opinions on how well certain aspects of science (e.g. quality of research, level of technology and medicine, ethical issues, science funding, usefulness of science to society and everyday life) have been taken care of in Finland were charted. The survey also carried various attitudinal statements on science and research. The statements covered, for instance, relationships between religion and science, science funding, alternative medicine, researchers' involvement in politics, use of scientific information in political decision-making, impact of scientific and technological development, climate change, and nutrition. The survey also included 18 constructed variables (variables starting with k) that related to Allardt's indicators of welfare and well-being (having, loving, being). Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, marital status, occupation/status in employment, income bracket, situation in life, number of children living in the household and their age groups, type of accommodation, regional variables, political party preference, and household size and income bracket
Finnish Views on Mandatory Vaccination Survey 2021
Aineistolla kartoitettiin suomalaisten mielipiteitä rokottamiseen ja rokotepakkoon liittyen keväällä 2021. Aineisto on kerätty osana Kansalaismielipidepaneelia, joka kuuluu kansalliseen yleisen mielipiteen mittaamisen infrastruktuuriin (FIRIPO). Kyselyssä kysyttiin aluksi mielipidettä rokotepakkoon liittyen, jonka jälkeen tiedusteltiin rokotteisiin ja rokottamiseen liittyviä näkemyksiä. Sen jälkeen kysyttiin luottamuksesta, eli muun muassa voiko toisiin ihmisiin, poliittisiin puolueisiin, eduskuntaan, Euroopan unioniin, perinteiseen mediaan ja sosiaaliseen mediaan luottaa. Lisäksi kyselyssä kartoitettiin, millaiseksi vastaaja kokee oman terveydentilansa, aikooko vastaaja ottaa koronarokotteen ja ovatko suomalaiset yleisesti valmiita ottamaan koronarokotteen. Kaikki vastaajat näkivät lomakkeen alussa johdantotekstin, jossa esiteltiin kuvitteellista pandemiatilannetta ja pakollista rokotetta. Vastaajat jaettiin satunnaisesti seitsemään ryhmään. Kontrolliryhmään kuuluvat jatkoivat johdannosta suoraan kyselyyn. Muut kuusi ryhmää näkivät johdantotekstin lisäksi vaihtelevia tietoja, joissa kerrottiin joko 70 tai 90 prosentin rokotekattavuuden pysäyttävän taudin etenemisen sekä erilaisia perusteluita rokotteen pakollisuudelle. Rokotteen pakollisuutta perusteltiin viitaten joko taloudellisen vakauden turvaamiseen, terveydenhuollon kantokyvyn turvaamiseen tai kansalaisten oikeuteen elämään ja terveyteen. Tarkat muotoilut löytyvät kyselylomakkeesta (quF3663_mul.pdf). Eri ryhmiin jaetut vastaajat näkivät eri rokotekattavuuden sekä perustelut. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat vastaajan sukupuoli, äidinkieli, kyselyn vastauskieli (suomi, ruotsi), ikäryhmä, koulutustaso, asuinpaikan maakunta ja tilastollinen kuntaryhmitys, tieto asuuko vastaajan kanssa alle 18-vuotiaita lapsia samassa taloudessa ja tieto, kuinka kiinnostunut vastaaja on politiikasta. The survey charted Finnish views on vaccines and mandatory vaccination in the spring of 2021. The data were collected as part of the citizen panel project, which is part of the Finnish Research Infrastructure for Public Opinion (FIRIPO). All respondents read an introductory text before starting the survey. The text summarised the situation regarding mandatory vaccinations in the context of the coronavirus pandemic (vaccination was not compulsory for anyone at the time of the survey) and presented the respondents with a fictional scenario where a different pandemic had broken out and a vaccine that had been tested according to the usual vaccine development and testing process and had been deemed safe and effective was widely available and used to combat the disease. The respondents were randomly divided into seven groups. Respondents belonging to the control group continued to the survey questions after reading the introductory text. The six other groups were presented varying additional information. The respondents in the six groups were told that either 70% or 90% vaccine coverage in the population would stop the spread of the new infectious disease, and they were given different reasons for implementing compulsory vaccination in the fictional pandemic situation. The different reasons included safeguarding economic stability, safeguarding the capacity of the health care system, and citizens' right to life and health. The survey examined the respondents' views on mandatory vaccination and vaccines in the context of the fictional situation described in the introduction. Questions charted how accepting the respondents would be towards mandatory vaccination, whether they would get vaccinated regardless of whether it was mandatory, and whether they thought that vaccines were safe and a good way to fight against different infectious diseases. Additionally, the respondents were asked whether they thought people could be generally trusted and whether they trusted various institutions and bodies, such as the Finnish government, universities and research institutes, and social media. The respondents' perceptions of their own health, their willingness to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and their views on Finns' general willingness to get vaccinated against COVID-19 were also surveyed. Background variables included the respondent's gender, mother tongue, survey language (Finnish or Swedish), age group, level of education, NUTS3 region of residence and statistical grouping of municipalities, children aged under 18 living in the household, and political interest
Implementation of Intervention Strategies for Physical Activity Promotion in Upper Secondary Schools: Teacher Surveys 2016-2018
Aineistossa tarkastellaan Let's Move It (LMI) -täydennyskoulutuksen toimintamallien vastaanottoa ja motivoivien vuorovaikutuskeinojen omaksumista toisen asteen oppilaitosten henkilökunnan keskuudessa. Aineistoissa käsitellään vuorovaikutustapoja, tyytyväisyyttä koulutuksiin ja koulutuksen toimintamallien käyttöä. Kvantitatiivinen aineisto koostuu neljästä datasta: alkukyselystä ja kolmesta seurantakyselystä. Aineisto on kerätty Liikettä toiselle asteelle -hankkeessa, jossa (2016-2018) hyödynnettiin ja levitettiin Let's Move It -hankkeen (2016-2018) tuloksia kansallisesti. Tutkimusta on rahoittanut Suomen Akatemia (hankenumero 304114). The study investigated the impact of and satisfaction with the continuing education training sessions focusing on the implementation of the 'Let's Move It' programme in upper secondary schools in Finland and the extent to which teachers adopted the motivational interaction techniques promoted in the training. The goal of the 'Let's Move It' school-based intervention programme (2016-2018) was to increase physical activity and decrease sedentary behaviour of students, including teacher-led activity breaks in the classroom. Data was collected with four questionnaire surveys from teachers and other school personnel at different points of time. The initial and the third follow-up survey presented the respondents with 11 fictional teaching situations and four potential ways of dealing with the situation. The respondents were asked how well the ways of dealing with the situation described corresponded with their own behaviour. The fictional situations included, among others, planning classroom rules, motivating students during class, students disrupting lessons, students getting bad results in tests. The initial and first follow-up survey studied satisfaction with the 'Let's Move It' (LMI) workshops and training sessions. Oher questions charted teachers' motivation to use LMI activities and interaction techniques in the future in their teaching or for training teacher colleagues. The third follow-up survey investigated the extent the content of the training had affected teaching in classroom or colleague training, and reasons for not using the activities or techniques. Background variables included the respondent's gender, year of birth, years of working as a teacher, type of educational institute (vocational or general upper secondary school) and the subject R taught if a teacher

Digital Citizenship and Access to Services in Rural Areas: Citizen Survey 2016
The survey charted the experiences and views of people living in the Lapland, Ostrobothnia and North Karelia regions on the use and accessibility of digital services. The survey focused especially on the usability and functionality of e-services in sparsely populated rural areas. The survey was conducted as part of the Digikansalaisuus ja palveluiden saavutettavuus maaseudulla (Digital Citizenship and Access to Services in Rural Areas) research project by the Universities of Lapland and Vaasa and the Lapland University of Applied Sciences. The project was funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (Development Fund for Agriculture and Forestry, MAKERA). First, the respondents were asked about their skills and habits regarding internet use. Questions included, for example, which digital devices the respondents had at home, how they would describe the internet connection they used, for which purposes they had used the internet in the past year, and how often they used the internet on average. The respondents were also presented with various statements regarding the use of digital services, such as whether they thought it was too expensive to use digital services or using digital services saved time. Further questions charted the respondents' use of public e-services, including whether they had both used the e-services and visited the physical office of the same public service in the past month or year. Additionally, the respondents were asked how important they thought various aspects of public services were (e.g. a physical office in their municipality of residence, ease of use of the e-services) and how well the same aspects were fulfilled in their own experience. Finally, the functionality and usefulness of public e-services from the respondents' personal point of view were examined. Background variables included the respondent's municipality of residence, distance from municipality of residence to the regional centre of the NUTS3 region, main way of transportation when travelling to the regional centre, gender, age, level of education, and status in employment
