Kysyttiin myös kuinka oikeudenmukaisena he pitävät suomalaista yhteiskuntaa. The Citizens' Pulse surveys examine Finnish attitudes and opinions in the context of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Main themes in the surveys include the activity and communication of authorities, compliance with regulations, future expectations, trust, and the respondents' own state of mind. This collection round also included questions on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, energy conservation, and the 2023 parliamentary election in Finland. The third collection round of 2023 surveyed the respondents' trust in other people and various institutions (e.g. the Finnish Government, the health care system, the media, and the Finnish Defence Forces). The respondents were asked to evaluate how fair or unfair they thought Finnish society was at present, and their state of mind was examined with questions on various matters relating to health, well-being, and their situation in life. The questions covered, for example, the respondents' own mental well-being, whether they were worried about the adequacy of their income, their confidence in their future, experiences of stress and togetherness, and whether they felt their lives were meaningful and safe. Additionally, the respondents were asked to evaluate whether an atmosphere of crisis prevailed amongst Finns. The next set of questions focused on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The respondents were asked how concerned they were about the crisis in Ukraine and its effects and whether they were concerned that the war might expand beyond Ukraine. Opinions on the economic sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU and whether Finland should be ready to receive significant numbers of refugees from Ukraine if necessary were charted. Additionally, the respondents were asked whether the uncertainty caused by the crisis in Ukraine had impacted the respondents' consumer behaviour and whether the recent rise in interest rates had created financial difficulties for the respondents' households. On the topic of energy conservation, the respondents were asked how concerned they were about the changes in energy prices, whether they felt they had enough information about ways to conserve energy in their everyday lives, whether they believed that by taking energy-saving measures they could make a difference in the availability of energy during the coming months. The measures the respondents had taken to lower their energy consumption during the past month (e.g. lowered the room temperature at home, driven less, reduced the use of electronic appliances at home, taken shorter showers) were also surveyed. Concern over the coronavirus pandemic and its effects were charted. Compliance with coronavirus restrictions was examined by asking the respondents whether in the past week they had followed the restrictions and recommendations set by authorities for preventing transmission of the virus, including maintaining safe distances, wearing a face mask, and minimising contact with other people. The respondents were also asked how necessary they felt it was to follow measures such as wearing a mask and maintaining safe distances after receiving two or three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Voting intentions in the 2023 parliamentary election in Finland were surveyed by asking the respondents whether they intended to vote in the election, whether they intended to vote during the early voting period or on election day, and whether they felt that by voting they could have an impact on matters that were important to them and the people close to them. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age group, NUTS3 region of residence, highest level of education, household composition, perceived financial situation of household, type of accommodation, and type of domestic heating system

Myöntävästi vastanneilta kysyttiin, olivatko he pelanneet jotain rahapeliä viimeisen 12 kuukauden aikana. Lopuksi pyydettiin kertomaan, millaisten pelien pelaamisen koettiin aiheuttavan ongelmia pelaamisen hallinnan kanssa. Tutkimuksessa on käytetty Suomen oloihin sovitettua, ongelmapelaamista kuvaavaa South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS-R)-mittaria. Taustamuuttujina aineistossa ovat ikäryhmä, sukupuoli, tilastollinen kuntaryhmä, maakunta, suuralue, koulutusaste, pääasiallinen toiminta ja keskimääräiset kuukausitulot. The survey studied gambling behaviour and problem gambling in Finland. The study was conducted by the state-owned gambling monopoly company Veikkaus Oy to provide up-to-date information on gambling habits and the extent of problems caused by gambling. Many questions used in the survey were based on the South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS-R), with some adaptations to Finnish circumstances. First, the respondents were asked whether they had ever gambled, whether they had gambled in the past 12 months and whether they had used Veikkaus or foreign gambling company games. Those who had gambled on foreign websites were asked which service providers they had used and why they had used foreign ones. Next questions charted how often the respondents did certain types of gambling (lottery, online poker, slot machines, gambling onsite in casinos, scratch cards etc.) Problems caused by gambling during the past 12 months were investigated by asking how much money the respondents usually spent on gambling a week, how often they went back another day to win back money lost, claimed to others to be winning money when were in fact losing, or gambled more than they had intended. Other questions explored whether the respondents had felt guilty when gambling, had wanted to stop gambling but hadn't thought they could, had hidden betting slips, documents related to debts and other signs of gambling from important people in their life. Financial consequences were studied with questions focusing on arguments with others over the way the respondents handled money, had these arguments been centered on gambling, had the respondents borrowed money from someone and not paid back because of gambling, had they taken time from work or study to gamble, and had they borrowed or acquired money to gamble or pay gambling debts and from whom or where. Finally, the respondents were asked which types of gambling they felt might cause them problems in managing their gambling. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age group, education level, average monthly income, socio-economic status, degree of urbanisation of the municipality of residence, region (NUTS3) and major region

Aineisto koostuu nuorten aikuisten haastatteluista liittyen sosiaalisen median käytön omaehtoiseen rajoittamiseen. Käytetty haastattelurunko perustuu McGill Illness Narrative Interview (MINI) haastatteluprotokollaan. Taustatietona mainitaan sukupuoli, ikäryhmä ja työmarkkina-asema. Aineistosta on tehty html-versio, jonka hakemiston avulla haastatteluja on helppo selata. The dataset consists of interviews with young adults on their experiences of voluntarily limiting their social media use. The interviews were divided into four sections. The first questions were related to the identification and initial stages of the interviewees' problematic social media use. The interviewees were asked to describe, among other things, at what point they started to consider their use of social media as problematic. The question also investigated how the interviewees had initially tried to manage their social media use and how they had sought help for the issue. The second set of questions explored whether the interviewees had experienced similar problems in the past and whether they had witnessed similar problems in their immediate circle or elsewhere. The third set of questions focused on what the interviewees thought had led to their problematic use of social media. The interviewees were also asked to reflect on whether there was anything specific in their own life at the time the issue started that could help to explain the development of the issue. Additional questions were asked about the treatment and support the interviewees had received, and how the problem was perceived by those close to the interviewees. The final set of questions charted the impact that problematic social media use had on the interviewees' lives, on their self-perception and on how they are perceived by others. The interview framework used was based on the McGill Illness Narrative Interview (MINI) interview protocol. Background information included the interviewee's gender, age group, and economic activity. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD. The dataset is available only in Finnish

Aineisto kartoittaa yhdysvaltalaisnuorten rahapelaamista, sosiaalisen median käyttöä ja yleistä subjektiivista hyvinvointia. Aineisto kerättiin osana Atte Oksasen johtamaa tutkimushanketta Rahapeliongelmat ja verkkoyhteisöt: Sosiaalipsykologinen tutkimus nuorten toiminnasta sosiaalisen median peliyhteisöissä (Problem Gambling and Social Media: Social Psychological Study on Youth Behavior in Online Gaming Communities). Aineistossa on käytetty seuraavia mittareita ja muuttujien nimissä niiden lyhenteitä: IBR = samanmielisyys ja identiteettikuplat sosiaalisessa mediassa (Identity Bubble Reinforcement Scale), ATGS = Rahapeliasenteet (Attitudes Toward Gambling Scale), SOGS = Rahapeliongelmat (South Oaks Gambling Screen), CIUS = Internetin ongelmakäyttö (Compulsive Internet Use), AUDITC = Alkoholin ongelmakäyttö (The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test), SISE = Itsetunto (Single-item Self-esteem Scale), LONE = Yksinäisyyden tunne (Three-item Loneliness Scale), GHQ = Psyykkinen kuormittuneisuus (General Health Questionnaire), MASTERY = Hallinnan tunne (Sense of Mastery Scale), EIS = Impulsiivisuus (Eysenck Impulsivity Scale) ja GRATIF = Palkintoviive (Delay of Gratification). This survey charted the gambling, social media usage and subjective well-being of young people aged 15-25 years in the United States. The study was conducted as part of the "Problem Gambling and Social Media: Social Psychological Study on Youth Behaviour in Online Gaming Communities" research project. The aim of the project was to analyse how young social media users evaluate, adopt and share gambling-related online content and how online group processes affect their gambling and gambling-related attitudes. FSD's holdings also include two other datasets that were collected using a nearly identical questionnaire (FSD3399 and FSD3400). Data for the research project have been collected in Finland, the United States, Spain, and South Korea. First, the respondents were asked which social media services they used (e.g. Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, discussion forums, online casinos) and how often. Topics that the respondents discussed on gambling-related social media were charted more closely, and they were asked, for example, whether the discussion usually related to instructions or tips on gambling or to problem gambling and recovering from problem gambling. Some questions on the respondents' social media activity were also presented, for instance, how often they saw gambling-related advertising online, how often they changed their most important social media passwords, and how often they uploaded pictures of themselves on social media. The respondents were asked whether they had ever been harassed online or had been the victim of a crime on the Internet in the past three years (e.g. defamation, identity theft, fraud, sexual harassment). The respondents' identity bubbles on social media were surveyed by using the IBR scale (Identity Bubble Reinforcement Scale). The respondents were asked, for instance, whether they thought they could be themselves on social media and whether they only interacted with people similar to them on social media. Additionally, the CIUS scale (Compulsive Internet Use) was used to examine problems related to Internet use. Questions focused on, for example, whether the respondents found it difficult to stop using the Internet when they were online, whether people close to them said they should use the Internet less, and whether they felt restless, frustrated or irritated when they couldn't use the Internet. In the next section of the questionnaire, the respondents were randomly assigned to two groups for a vignette experiment. Respondents in the test group were told they belong to Group C because they had answered the earlier questions in a similar manner to others in the group. Those in the control group were given no information on the group. The respondents were presented with different gambling-related social media scenarios, and they were asked to evaluate the contents of the gambling-related messages by "liking" or "disliking" the message or by not reacting to it at all. Each respondent was shown four different gambling messages with different contents. Three factors were manipulated in the scenarios (2x2x2 design): expressed stance of the message on gambling (positive or negative), narrative perspective of the message (experience-driven first-person narration or fact-driven third-person narration) and majority opinion of other respondents on the message (positively or negatively biased distribution of likes or dislikes). For Group C, the majority opinion was seemingly provided by other Group C members, whereas for the control group the majority opinion was seemingly provided by other respondents. Additionally, the respondents' attitudes towards the message were surveyed with statements regarding, for instance, how likely they would find the message interesting or share it on social media. Next, the respondents' attitudes towards gambling were charted by using the ATGS scale (Attitudes Towards Gambling Scale). They were asked, for example, whether people should have the right to gamble whenever they want, whether most people who gamble do so sensibly and whether it would be better if gambling was banned altogether. The respondents' gambling habits were examined by using the SOGS scale (South Oaks Gambling Screen), and they were asked, for instance, which types of gambling they had done in the past 12 months (played slot machines, visited an online casino, bet on lotteries etc.), whether the people close to them had gambling problems, and whether they had borrowed money to gamble or to pay gambling debts. In addition, the respondents' alcohol consumption was surveyed with a few questions from the AUDITC scale (The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test), and they were asked whether they had used various drugs for recreational purposes (e.g. cannabis, LSD, amphetamine, opioids) and which online resources they had used to purchases these drugs (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Craigslist). The respondents' subjective well-being and social relationships were examined next. The respondents were asked how happy they were in general and how satisfied they were with their economic situation and life in general. They were also asked how well the single statement "I have high self-esteem" from the SISE scale (Single-item Self-esteem Scale) described them. The three statements on lacking companionship, feeling left out and feeling isolated from the LONE scale (Three-item Loneliness Scale) were also included in the survey. Feelings of belonging to different groups or communities (e.g. family, friends, neighbourhood, parish/religious community) were charted, and the 12-item GHQ scale (General Health Questionnaire) was used to survey the respondents' recent mental health. Questions included, for example, whether the respondents had been able to concentrate on what they were doing, had felt they couldn't overcome their difficulties, and had been losing confidence in themselves. Finally, the respondents' sense of control over the events in their lives was examined with the MASTERY scale (Sense of Mastery Scale), with questions focusing on, for instance, whether they thought they had little control over the things that happen to them and whether they often felt helpless in dealing with the problems of life. The respondents' impulsivity was surveyed by using the EIS scale (Eysenck Impulsivity Scale) and their willingness to delay gratification was surveyed with the GRATIF scale (Delay of Gratification). Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, country of birth (own and parents') level of education, type of municipality of residence, household composition, disposable income, possible financial problems, and economic activity and occupational status

Aineistossa on Let´s Move It -hankkeessa kerättyä tutkimusdataa ammattikouluopiskelijoiden istumisesta ja liikunnallisesta aktiivisuudesta yli vuoden kestäneeltä tutkimusajanjaksolta. The intervention study investigated the effectiveness of the 'Let's Move It' programme aiming to increase physical activity (PA) and reduce sedentary behaviour (SB) among students in vocational schools. It was conducted as a cluster-randomised parallel group trial. This dataset consists of 1) students' responses from four self-report surveys conducted over the study period, 2) accelerometer data on the students' moderate and vigorous physical activity (MVPA), sedentary time and breaks in sedentary time measured during three seven-day periods over the study period, 3) the students' body composition measurements made at the beginning and end of the study period, and 4) physical activity diary data. The main themes in the surveys were the students' PA habits and motivation, SB habits, well-being, health behaviour, health status, and personality. The research was funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture (OKM/81/626/2014) and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health (201310238). Students were divided into control and intervention groups. The intervention group participated in a variety of measures, such as six Let's Move It group sessions and pause exercises. They also had a possibility to use gym balls and were provided with online material and a workbook. Teachers in the schools played an active role and data were also collected from them (see FSD3446). The four online questionnaire surveys mainly repeat the same questions. Health status was surveyed with questions on health issues, stress, smoking, eating and sleeping. Other questions charted the amount and kind of physical activity, motivation and barriers for taking exercise, measures taken for enhancing the PA motivation, future PA intentions, perceived PA impact, sedentary behaviour (sitting) and motivation for reducing SB. The surveys were conducted before the start of the programme (initial survey), and then three weeks, six weeks and 14 months after the start of the programme (intervention surveys). Accelerometer data on MVPA, sedentary time and breaks in sedentary time were collected through students wearing an accelerometer (3-axis Hookie AM 20) fixed to an elastic belt and placed on their hip for seven consecutive days during waking hours, except during shower and other water activities. There were three such seven-day periods: before the start of the programme, at the end of the programme and six months after the end of the programme. The students also filled in paper questionnaires daily (physical activity diaries) during those seven-day periods, specifying whether they were mainly at school, working or in practical training, or at home that day, whether they had any illnesses or injuries preventing physical activity or were engaged in water activities. Body composition measurements were made with TANITA bioimpedance measurement device (Tanita scale measurements) at two time points: before the start of the programme and six months after the end of the programme. The measurements include weight, height, body fat, body fat mass, body fat-free mass, body mass index (BMI), basal metabolic rate, total body water, bone mass, impedance, visceral fat, metabolic age, muscle mass, ECW, ICW, as well as specific measurements for torso and right and left legs and arms. Background variables included the respondent's gender, year of birth, study year, field of study, whether worked during studies, and parents' education

The study charted Finnish people's values and attitudes. The themes of the Spring 2023 survey included the parliamentary elections of spring 2023, politics, foreign policy, taxation, and public finance. First, the respondents were presented with attitudinal statements concerning a variety of social topics, such as politics, immigration, political parties, taxation, the right to strike, the labour market and foreign policy. Next, the respondents were asked about their intentions to vote in the parliamentary elections of spring 2023, their voting behaviour, and how many political parties had candidates for whom they would vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Opinions on what were the most important themes (e.g. social security, taxation, public finance, national security) that impacted the respondents' choice of political party and candidate were also surveyed. Questions charted what the new government should focus on (e.g. improving employment, lowering taxation, increasing funding for education, stricter environment policy, cutting public expenditure) and what the respondents' views were on the composition of the new government (which political parties should or should not be included in the new government, and which qualities (e.g. determination, adaptability, independence) the respondents desired from political leaders in Finland. Opinions on tax policy were examined with questions concerning whether different taxes should be increased or decreased and attitudes towards taxation were investigated with a series of statements (e.g. taxation in Finland is too harsh, tax cuts should not be made if they lead to the deterioration of social security and public services, tax cuts would increase tax revenue as economic activity would increase). The respondents' views on balancing Finland's public finances were investigated, and opinions on the reformation of labour legislation were surveyed with attitudinal statements on various measures that would limit workers' right to strike. The respondents were also asked to assess which factors (e.g. climate and weather, Finnish education system, cost of living and taxation, security and stability of Finnish society) would be attractive or unattractive for potential immigrants moving to Finland. The respondents were asked which issues (e.g. relationship with Russia, relationship with USA, relationship with China, co-operation with Nordic countries, Finland's NATO membership, international crisis management) should be prioritised in Finland's foreign policy. Additionally, the respondents were asked how well-acquainted they were with issues concerning Finland's foreign policy and state security policy. Opinions were also charted on Finland's NATO membership, Finland's EU membership and the currency change to euro. Background variables included the respondent's age group, number of inhabitants in the municipality of residence, region (NUTS3), type of employer, working hours, type of employment contract, education, economic activity and occupational status, employment sector, trade union membership, what political party would vote for in parliamentary elections, self-perceived social class, mother tongue and annual gross income of the respondent's household

Tutkimusaineistossa käsitellään ammattikouluopiskelijoiden istumisen vähentämistä ja liikunnallista aktiivisuutta. Aineisto koostuu tutkimuksen useassa eri vaiheissa kerätyistä lomakekyselyistä, Tanita-kehonkoostumusmittauksista, HOOKIE-liikemittauksista ja tutkijan alkuperäisten muuttujien pohjalta muodostetuista muuttujista. Aineisto on pilottitutkimus, jossa vastaajia on yhteensä 43. Samat kysymykset on nimetty yhdenmukaisesti eri aikapisteillä. Toinen kysely (2.) on toteutettu huomattavasti suppeampana kuin muut. Kyselyissä tiedusteltiin aluksi vastaajan fyysisesta aktiivisuudesta: liikkumisen määrästä, rasittavuudesta ja tavoista sekä liikkumiseen suhtautumista väitteiden avulla. Vastaajalta tiedusteltiin esimerkiksi, miten liikkuminen kolmesti viikossa vähintään 30 minuutin ajan hengästyen auttaisi nukkumaan paremmin. The pilot study investigated the effectiveness of the 'Let's Move It' programme, which aimed to increase physical activity (PA) and reduce sedentary behaviour (SB) among students in vocational schools in Finland. This dataset consists of the students' responses to several surveys conducted over the study period, the students' body composition measurements, accelerometer data on the students' physical activity, and variables created by the researchers based on original variables. 43 students in total participated in the pilot study. The students were divided into four groups, two of which participated in a variety of intervention measures. The other two groups formed the control group (did not participate in intervention measures). The research was funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture (OKM/81/626/2014) and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health (201310238). Variables in the data have been named as follows: variables beginning with the letter K are survey responses, letter H indicates accelerometer (Hookie) variables, letter T indicates body composition measurement (TANITA) variables, and letter R indicates variables created by the researchers where values have been reverse coded. Data were collected at four points during the study period: before the implementation of the 'Let's Move It' programme, halfway through the programme, right after the programme ended, and six months after the programme ended. The time point of the data collection is indicated by the numbers 1-4 following the underscore in the survey response variables and by the letters a-c and a mention in the variable label in the accelerometer and body composition measurement variables. Some variables are in Finnish and some in English. The four online questionnaire surveys mainly repeat the same questions. Health status was surveyed with questions on health issues, stress, smoking, eating and sleeping.
