Tackling Biases and Bubbles in Participation: Citizen Survey 2018
The survey charted the social and political opinions of different groups of people. The respondents were presented with statements regarding social participation and influence, trust in political decision-makers, political interest, and political opinions. The data were collected as part of the 'Tackling Biases and Bubbles in Participation' (BIBU) research project, which examines how economic restructuring changes citizens' and decision-makers' political capacities, interests and emotions. The research project is a collaboration between six universities and research institutes, led by Professor Anu Kantola from the University of Helsinki. First, social participation was examined with questions on, for example, participation in political discussion, activity in civic organisations, boycotting, and donating money to charity. The respondents were asked whether they agreed or disagreed with various statements regarding politicians and decision-makers. Trust in several actors, such as political parties, the Government, universities, and traditional media was charted. Questions also focused on, for example, whether the respondents had signed petitions, how often they used social media to follow social and political issues, and how they viewed civil disobedience. The respondents' political opinions and participation were surveyed with questions on where they would place themselves on the left-right political scale, whether they thought they were liberal or conservative, whether they had voted in the 2017 municipal elections, and which party they would vote for if parliamentary elections were held now. Views on different groups of people, such as the poor or the rich, those receiving unemployment benefits, baby boomers, and asylum seekers were examined next. Questions also examined the respondents' views on children and raising children, the social security system, income disparity, and immigration. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, year of birth, marital status, level of education, occupation, income, and household size

Doctoral Graduates of Year 2017: Career and Employment Survey 2020
The survey charted the careers and employment situations of Finnish doctoral graduates three years after they had obtained their degree in 2017. Themes of the survey included impact of a doctoral degree on employment, usefulness of doctoral education in terms of skills needed in occupational life, and job satisfaction. The respondents were first asked what their occupational status was at the time of the survey and what it had been 6 months before starting the degree and 6 months after finishing it. Questions covered whether having a doctoral degree had led to an increased salary and better standing in occupational life, whether a doctoral degree had been a prerequisite for the respondents' current job, and what their gross monthly income was at present. The respondents were also asked if they had been unemployed after finishing their degree. Further questions covered how important certain skills and know-how were in the respondents' current job and how well their doctoral studies had developed these skills (e.g. theoretical or practical knowledge of their field, problem solving, managerial skills, negotiation skills, project management, and scientific communication). Opinions were charted on the significance of doctoral and other tertiary education, work experience, contacts and networks, and other skills in occupational life. The respondents were asked how they had financed their doctoral studies (e.g. by being employed by a university or other research institute or with a personal research grant). Finally, it was surveyed whether the respondents had completed their doctoral degree by studying full-time, part-time or during their leisure time while also otherwise employed. The 2020 survey also included a question on how the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic had affected the respondents' employment situation. Background variables included the respondent's gender, field of study, and age at the time of graduation (dichotomised 35 or under/36 and over)

Citizen Safety and Security 2019
Tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin Suomen kansalaisten näkemyksiä ja mielipiteitä turvallisuudesta. Kysely laadittiin yhteistyössä SPEKin ja Suomen Kyselytutkimus Oy:n kesken. Kyselyn alussa kerättiin tietoa kansalaisten henkilökohtaisesta hyvinvoinnista ja turvallisuudesta. Kysyttiin, kokivatko vastaajat saavansa tarvittaessa apua hankalissa elämäntilanteissa. Seuraavaksi kysyttiin yhteiskunnan tuottamiin palveluihin liittyen, kuinka suuri merkitys eri tahoilla koettiin olevan turvallisuuden lisäämisessä, ja kuinka eri palvelujen saatavuuden arveltiin muuttuvan seuraavan kolmen vuoden aikana. This survey charted Finnish views and opinions on safety and security in Finland. The study was conducted in 2019 by Suomen Kyselytutkimus in collaboration with the Finnish National Rescue Association (SPEK). First, some questions on the respondents' personal wellbeing and security were asked (e.g. whether they thought they would receive financial help from the people close to them if they needed it). The respondents' fears of encountering various situations in their daily lives (e.g. crime against property, domestic violence, traffic accident, terrorism, hate speech/hate crimes) that would undermine their safety or that of their loved ones were charted. The respondents were also asked whether they had themselves experienced various situations (e.g. been a victim of violence, been in a traffic accident, been in a fire) within the last year, the year before that, 2-4 years ago, over 4 years ago or never. The respondents were presented with a set of attitudinal statements concerning safety in different types of residential areas and in Finland more generally, the impact of media on safety, righteousness of the treatment of criminals and victims of crime, and trust in foreigners living in Finland. The respondents were also asked how various characteristics (e.g. religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic background, political beliefs) affected their trust in other people. Views on national security were charted, and the respondents were asked how likely they considered Finland facing different problems within the next three years (e.g. threat of terrorism, sustained recession, problems with the supply of electricity, political problems, epidemics or pandemics, a massive influx of refugees, environmental catastrophes). Next, the respondents were asked how they thought the availability of various services, such as police or emergency services and public child day care, would change within the next three years. Feelings of unsafety were also charted, and the respondents were asked to what extent their feelings of safety were increased by different actors (e.g. the police, the Defence Forces, emergency services, healthcare services, family). Additionally, the respondents' and their families use of various services (e.g. the police, emergency services) in the past year and their satisfaction with the services used were investigated. Background variables included the type of the respondent's municipality of residence, NUTS2 and NUTS3 regions of residence, statistical grouping of municipalities, and residence in the seven largest municipalities in Finland (categorised). Additionally, the background variables included the respondent's age and age group, gender, mother tongue, household composition, whether R's parents were born in Finland, highest level of education, economic activity and occupational status, and sufficiency of the household's income
Early Childhood Education and Care Survey 2019
The survey examined the circumstances of families with four-year-old children regarding, among other topics, living arrangements, income, parental roles, childcare arrangements, and childcare allowances and vouchers. Respondents included the guardians of four-year-old children in Finland. The survey was conducted as part of the Finnish Childcare Policies: In/equality in Focus (CHILDCARE) research project, a joint collaboration by the University of Jyväskylä, Tampere University and Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare. First, the respondents were asked about their four-year-old child's childcare arrangements. Questions examined what arrangements they had in place for their four-year-old and any other children and how satisfied they were with the arrangements. Further questions were asked based on whether the child was at home or looked after by an unpaid carer or in day care. Next, the respondents' work situation, work-life balance, well-being, and family circumstances were surveyed. Questions also focused on the respondents' financial situation and views on childcare policies. Background variables included, among others, the respondent's municipality of residence (categorised), gender, age group, marital status, family composition, level of education, and current activity and employment. Additionally, background information relating to the child was collected, including the child's gender, living arrangements, and childcare arrangements. The education and current activity of the respondent's spouse/partner were also charted. Temporal comparisons can be made between this dataset and dataset FSD3577 Early Childhood Education and Care Survey 2016 based on the randomised id variable
Learned Societies in Europe 2019
Lopuksi tiedusteltiin, onko seuran tarkoitus käynnistää uusia toimintamuotoja. Aineisto ei sisällä taustatietoja vastaajista. The survey charted the activities of European learned societies in social sciences and humanities. The data were collected as part of a joint project by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies and Tampere University, which aimed to investigate the activities of learned societies and make them more widely known. First, some background information was collected on the learned societies. The respondents were asked which field of science the society represented, in which country the society was located, whether the society operated internationally or nationally, and what the primary aim of the society was. Next, the survey charted the society's finances, such as the annual budget, changes in the budget in the past five years, and the most important sources of income for the society. Organisation and staff of the society were surveyed with questions on, for example, how the society was organised (e.g. departments or working groups), whether the society had salaried employees, and how large a share of the society's tasks were carried out without a salary or compensation. The respondents were also asked about the society's membership composition (e.g. individuals or organisations or both), the number of members, member benefits, and recruitment of new members. The publishing activity of the society was examined next with questions on how many peer-reviewed and other journals, book series, monographs, conference proceedings, and reports and policy briefs the society had published in 2019. The languages of the publications were also charted, and the respondents were asked if there had been any changes in the society's publishing activity in the past five years. The society's seminar and conference activity as well as research activity were surveyed with questions focusing on the number of organised seminars and conferences and the types of research activities the society engaged in. Finally, the respondents were asked about the society's societal impact and science communication, the promotion of open science by the society, collaborations between other learned societies, and the future of their society. No background information was collected on the respondents
Protective Behaviours of Finnish People during the COVID-19 Pandemic 2021
Seuraavaksi kysyttiin koronavirustartunnan saamisesta. Vastaajia pyydettiin arvioimaan, kuinka todennäköisenä he pitivät koronavirustartunnan saamista vapaa-ajalla seuraavan kuukauden aikana ja kuinka paljon he kokivat voivansa vaikuttaa omilla toimillaan koronaviruksen leviämiseen. The survey studied protective behaviour during the coronavirus epidemic in Finland. The survey investigated the protective measures (e.g. minimising contact with others, using face masks, vaccination) the respondents took in everyday life to protect themselves from COVID-19, as well as their attitudes towards the protective measures. The first set of questions focused on minimising contacts. The respondents were asked how much contact they had had in the last 7 days with people who were not part of their own household and whether the respondent was currently in quarantine. The use of face masks during leisure time was surveyed by asking how often the respondents had worn face masks indoors when in the company of individuals who were not part of their own household during the last 7 days. The type of face masks used (e.g. fabric face mask, disposable face mask, certified face mask such as a surgical face mask) and whether the respondents reused disposable face masks were examined. The respondents were also asked whether they intended to use face masks in the next 7 days when visiting shops, cafes, restaurants, meeting non-household members indoors, taking part in indoor sports activities, and using public transportation. Additionally, the survey charted whether face mask use had become automatic for respondents in public spaces and whether they would continue to use face masks during flu seasons once the use of masks was no longer recommended to combat the coronavirus epidemic. Next, the respondents were surveyed on how wearing a face mask during their leisure time had affected them. The respondents were, for example, asked whether they felt that wearing a mask affected their risk of contracting COVID-19 and their sense of community. They were also asked whether wearing the mask affected their ability to take in oxygen, whether wearing a mask felt uncomfortable or distressing, and whether it increased their sense of responsibility or security. Norms regarding mask use were examined with questions on whether the respondent felt that different groups (e.g. the authorities, risk group members, family and friends) thought that the respondent should wear a face mask in their free time. The respondents were also asked whether anything (e.g. unwillingness to spend money on face masks, peer pressure to not wear a mask, trouble breathing when using a face mask) had significantly prevented or impeded their use of face masks. The next questions concerned contracting COVID-19. The respondents were asked how effective they thought various protective measures (e.g. hand washing and the use of hand sanitiser, face mask use, maintaining safe distances) were in stopping the spread of coronavirus. The respondents were also asked to rate how likely they thought it was that they would contract coronavirus during their leisure time in the next month and how much they felt they could influence the spread of coronavirus through their own actions. In relation to the importance of protective measures, the respondents were, for example, asked why they took protective measures, and whether they felt that taking action against the spread of the virus was in line with their values or contributed to a sense of belonging. Finally, questions were asked about the number of doses of the COVID-19 vaccine the respondent had received, the likelihood that the respondent had already had a COVID-19 infection, whether the respondent belonged to a risk group, and whether they had been tested for COVID-19 previously. The respondents were also asked how necessary they felt it was to follow measures such as wearing a mask and maintaining safe distances before receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, after receiving the first dose of the vaccine, and after receiving two doses of the vaccine. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, NUTS2 and NUTS3 regions of residence, municipality of residence, education level, occupational status, household composition, household's gross annual income, and type of accommodation
