Social Survey Austria 2023 (SUF edition)
Full edition for scientific use. The Social Survey Austria (SSÖ) is a survey representative of the Austrian population and has been conducted since 1986 in an inter-university research cooperative by sociologists from the universities of Graz, Linz, Salzburg, and Vienna. The Social Survey Austria 2023 is the 7th survey in which, in addition to an Austria-specific part, country-comparative survey modules of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) are also collected. In the SSÖ 2023, questions from two ISSP-modules, the module "Family and Changing Gender Roles V" (2022) and the module "National Identity & Citizenship" (2023), as well as questions on current social challenges in Austria were asked. Therefore, the first part of the questionnaire focused on questions about the employment of mothers, the division of care work, housework and parental leave in partnerships as well as family relationships. The second part of the questionnaire dealt with attitudes towards patriotism and nationalism, immigration to Austria and satisfaction with democracy in Austria. The SSÖ 2023 was financed by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research and conducted within the framework of the project "Digitize! Computational Social Sciences in the Digital and Social Transformation" (project lead: University of Vienna) for the first time in a push-to-web design
ASEP Pilot Wave 1 (2023) (SUF edition)
Full edition for scientific use. The Austrian Socio-Economic Panel (ASEP) is a multi-topic, large-scale, annually conducted, ongoing longitudinal survey, that collects data on the household and individual level, representative for the Austrian population living in private households.
This dataset contains the survey data of the first wave of the ASEP, conducted as a smaller-scale pilotstudy in the year 2023, with a net sample size of ~2660 persons living in ~1300 households. You will find data on the household, on each person living in the household and their relations to each other.
As the ASEP aims for enabling research for all social science disciplines, the topics in this first wave of the pilotstudy are very broad. The topics range from family, work, income, housing, education, and health to attitudes, values, and behavior about different aspects of personality, life, and society.
Data was collected during October 2023 and February 2024 via tailored mixed-mode design, that led to a 54% CAPI and 46% CAWI mode composition of the net sample. The invited households were randomly selected from the Central Register of Main Residence in Austria. All household members age 15 and above were given a personal questionnaire. For household members age 14 and below, a questionnaire on child-related topics was given to their legal guardians. Furthermore, to one representative of the household (age 18 and above), a questionnaire on household-related topics was given.

Replication Data for: Asking Volunteers: Pitfalls and Solutions for Surveying Voluntary Organisations in Germany (OA edition)
Volunteering is seen as an effective way to address a wide range of issues that are present in modern societies, in particular in rural areas. In order to gain insight into the current state of volunteering, a survey was carried out with the aim of providing an inventory of the digitalisation of volunteering and addressing the influence of spatiality in this context. This article examines the traditional data collection methods of surveys that have been used in the past to collect information on volunteering and presents a different sampling procedure based on a random sample of municipalities, due to insufficient data available from official authorities. Finally, the article discusses the results of the survey and analyses how the unique sampling procedure differs from previous approaches. The comparison with a larger survey shows that the different sampling methods produce largely identical results, at least for the central variable of organisational area. As long as no structured data are available from the public authorities, there will always be a trade-off with regard to sampling strategies and the method of contact when doing research on volunteering organisations

Developing Pre-service Teachers' Professional Competence for Translingual Instruction - Questionnaire (OA edition)
Full edition for public use. The data were collected for the empirical evaluation of a teacher education course on languages in education. The evaluation design consisted of a pre- and post-test (n = 52) with an open questionnaire on four videotaped classroom situations in order to investigate pre-service teachers’ competence development on the basis of changes in their noticing of these classroom situations, so in their ability to 1) identify noteworthy features of classroom interactions and 2) to interpret these features based on their knowledge and experience (van Es & Sherin, 2021). Additionally, in combination with the post-test, stimulated recall interviews (n = 11) were conducted in order to reconstructively infer pre-service teachers’ cognitive processes during the analysis of the videotaped classroom situations. This is the data set from the questionnaire
Pope Francis and reforms of the Church (2019) (SUF edition)
Full edition for scientific use. The long-term study ‘Religion in People's Lives’ has been conducted every ten years since 1970 and provides comprehensive data on the development of religion in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The 2020 study will be accompanied by this online survey to gain additional insights. The Roman Catholic Church is undergoing an epochal change, as religion is now seen as an individual choice and no longer as a cultural destiny. In the future, there will be fewer Catholics but more committed Christians. This movement will be organised in a network structure, with communities (‘hostels’) that live the Gospel and are socially committed. This change will not be controlled by centralised institutions, but will develop from the grassroots, inspired by the Gospel and the Second Vatican Council. The reforms will emerge from the dynamics of local communities
