Since 1997, the ARD-DeutschlandTREND has been conducted by Infratest dimap Gesellschaft für Trend- und Wahlforschung mbH on behalf of the Association of Public Broadcasting Corporations in the Federal Republic of Germany (ARD) and various print media. From 2021, the ARD-DeutschlandTREND will be surveyed on behalf of ARD-Tagesthemen and the daily newspaper DIE WELT. Up to and including February 2021, the monthly surveys were conducted in telephone interviews (CATI) with approx. 1000 respondents (for party preference approx. 1500) per wave. Starting in March 2021, both telephone interviews (CATI) and online interviews (CAWI) were conducted with approximately 1300 respondents per wave. The attitudes and assessments of the voting population regarding parties, politicians and current political issues were recorded. Respondents for the telephone interviews were selected using a multistage random sample from the ADM selection framework for telephone sampling, including landline and mobile phone numbers (dual-frame sampling). Respondents for the online interviews were selected using a stratified random sample from an online access panel. Some questions are repeated at each survey time and asked in an identical manner, while other topics are only surveyed in one or more survey months. The ARD-DeutschlandTREND is available as an annual cumulation for the years starting in 1998.Party preference in the next federal election (Sunday poll); satisfaction with selected top politicians (Annalena Baerbock, Amira Mohamed Ali, Alice Weidel, Christine Lambrecht, Christian Lindner, Cem Özdemir, Dietmar Bartsch, Friedrich Merz, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Hubertus Heil, Janine Wissler, Karl Lauterbach, Marco Buschmann, Nancy Faeser, Olaf Scholz, Robert Habeck, Tino Chrupalla, Volker Wissing, Lars Klingbeil, Steffi Lemke); views on the conflict between Ukraine and Russia (I don´t think sanctions by the West will change anything in Russia´s policy, I can understand that Russia feels threatened by the West, NATO is important to secure peace in Europe, I would find it right if the U.S. and the EU would further tighten sanctions against Russia, in the long term Ukraine should be admitted to the EU, European states should take a stronger role in mediating the Ukraine conflict); Real Wage and Price Development in Germany, 1991 - 2022

Real wage development Wage increases do not inevitably lead to an increase in disposable income due to inflation rates. To classify wage development, real wages are first presented, differentiated by type of employment, service group and economic sector. This is then compared with the consumer price index (CPI), both on the basis of the year 2015 and on the basis of 2020. Here, the goods sectors of food and - on the basis of 2015 - also housing rents are presented separately once again. Base years of the CPI (2015 and 2020) The consumer price index measures the average price development of all goods and services that private households purchase for consumption purposes. It is a central indicator for assessing the development of the value of money and is used as a benchmark in wage negotiations, for example. With the base year, the calculation modules of the consumer price index (= CPI) on the consumption habits and purchasing behaviour of private households are adjusted to the conditions of the respective year (here: 2015 and 2020). This also includes that the Systematic Schedule of Income and Expenditure of Private Households (abbreviation SEA) is converted and included in its new form in the revision of the CPI. The selection of the individual price representatives forms the determination of the so-called basket of goods with a total of 750 goods. The determination of the weight with which the price development of the individual price representatives are included in the overall index form the weighting scheme. The weighting scheme of the goods and services is recalculated at each revision. The weighting scheme contains the weighting shares for the goods areas of the upper basket level. This weighting information reflects the importance of the individual goods sectors for the population of all goods and services in the respective economic stages. The basis for the recalculation of the weighting scheme is the sample survey of income and consumption, the statistics of the current economic accounts and data of the national accounts. All new weighting schemes refer to the respective base year (i.e. in the case of the present data series to 2015 or 2020) "and remain constant until the next revision in order to be able to represent price developments unaffected by changes in expenditure weights (Laspeyres index)."

Ethnic Organizations Online (EO2) Dataset

    No full text
With the increasing relevance of ethnic groups as political actors, the literature has attempted to identify and study the ethnic organizations representing these groups. How do these organizations use digital communication channels to reach their domestic and international audiences? To enable research on these questions, we have developed the Ethnic Organizations Online (EO2) dataset, a new data collection focusing on the online channels that ethnic organizations use. The dataset includes four types of channels: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and regular websites. It relies on the Ethnic Power Relations -- Organizations database, and is therefore compatible with an entire family of datasets on ethnic politics. Featuring more than 2,000 online channels used by 265 groups, it allows researchers to study a wide variety of questions related to digital ethnic mobilization. This repository contains the dataset, codebook, and further information on working with the dataset. A paper titled "Ethnic Politics via Digital Means: Introducing the Ethnic Organizations Online (EO2) Dataset" is forthcoming in Journal of Peace Research. With the increasing relevance of ethnic groups as political actors, the literature has attempted to identify and study the ethnic organizations representing these groups. Replication Files: Concurrent, Web-First, or Web-Only? How Different Mode Sequences Perform in Recruiting Participants for a Self-Administered Mixed-Mode Panel Study

    No full text
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many survey programs switched to self-administered modes of data collection, often offering respondents both web-based and paper-based questionnaires. However, there is little guidance as to when to offer which mode, especially when the aim is to recruit participants for a panel survey. This study examines the effectiveness of different mode-sequence designs by analyzing an experiment implemented in the recruitment wave of the German panel study “Family Research and Demographic Analysis” (FReDA). We randomly assigned 108,256 individuals aged 18–49 years to one of three mode-sequence-design conditions: concurrent, web-first including a paper-based questionnaire with the second reminder (web-first-2), and web-first including a paper-based questionnaire with the third reminder (web-first-3). A fourth, simulated group did not receive a paper-based questionnaire (web-only). We analyzed how different mode-sequence designs affected outcome rates, sample composition, response distributions, data quality, share of paper-based questionnaires, postage costs, number of postal mailings, and participation in the subsequent wave. Our results show no differences in response distributions and small differences in sample composition across the three designs. As the web-first-2 and web-only designs yielded comparatively good response and recruitment rates at reasonable costs, we recommend their use when surveying adults between 18 and 49 years old.During the COVID-19 pandemic, many survey programs switched to self-administered modes of data collection, often offering respondents both web-based and paper-based questionnaires. No full text
The EUI-YouGov dataset on European solidarity is built on a large survey designed by the 'Solidarity in Europe' and the SOLID ERC research teams at the EUI, and implemented by YouGov. The data aims to empirically assess public opinion on the willingness to redistribute resources within the EU and to examine political attitudes that might explain these preferences. The survey design covers a number of issues, particularly concerning attitudes towards European solidarity; preferences for solidarity in the scope of different types of crises (including COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine); satisfaction and trust in national and European institutions; attitudes towards European integration, identity, value of democracy, world politics, security and defence, Russia, NATO and a European army; preferences concerning taxes and policy priorities; the relative salience of different issues and threats facing individuals, countries and the EU; political ideology, religion and voting preferences; as well as other individual attributes such as gender, age and occupation. The survey inquired 24.261 adults over 16 EU countries and the United Kingdom, from 16 March to 24 April 2023. YouGov implemented the survey online using a randomised panel sampling mechanism to ensure it is nationally representative concerning age, gender, social class, region, level of education, voting preference and level of political interest. The EUI-YouGov dataset on European solidarity is built on a large survey designed by the 'Solidarity in Europe' and the SOLID ERC research teams at the EUI, and implemented by YouGov.
