Mobile Health im gesundheitlichen Verbraucherschutz (Experiment)

    No full text
Just Another Day on Twitter: A Complete 24 Hours of Twitter Data

    No full text
At the end of October 2022, Elon Musk concluded his acquisition of Twitter. In the weeks and months before that, several questions were publicly discussed that were not only of interest to the platform's future buyers, but also of high relevance to the Computational Social Science research community. For example, how many active users does the platform have? What percentage of accounts on the site are bots? And, what are the dominating topics and sub-topical spheres on the platform? In a globally coordinated effort of 80 scholars to shed light on these questions, and to offer a dataset that will equip other researchers to do the same, we have collected 375 million tweets published within a 24-hour time period starting on September 21, 2022. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first complete 24-hour Twitter dataset that is available for the research community. With it, the present work aims to accomplish two goals. First, we seek to answer the aforementioned questions and provide descriptive metrics about Twitter that can serve as references for other researchers. Second, we create a baseline dataset for future research that can be used to study the potential impact of the platform's ownership change. At the end of October 2022, Elon Musk concluded his acquisition of Twitter. English The data from this project come from a survey among persons between the age of 18 and 74 years residing in the state of Baden Württemberg, Germany. Respondents were recruited via the online access panel Bilendi. From August 29 to September 5 of 2022, 18,429 people registered in the Bilendi panel were invited via email to complete the web survey. To approximate the target population, simple quotas for education and gender as well as crossed quotas for age and driver’s license ownership were applied. 1,844 panel members started the survey, 136 people were screened out because of age or place of residence, 522 were screened out because of already fulfilled quotas. Out of the remaining 1,186 people, 122 did not complete the questionnaire (10.3%). A total of 1,064 people completed the questionnaire. Two observations were removed from the data set because they came from the same panel ID. This resulted in a dataset with a total of 1,062 observations. The survey includes questions on mobility behavior, parking, on-demand transport services, smart mobility, places of anxiety in public transport, environmental attitudes, smartphone use, self-monitoring, political attitudes, life satisfaction, health, and sociodemographic. The questionnaire was programmed in EFS Survey. The median time for completing the questionnaire was 14 minutes and 59 seconds. 42.9% of respondents completed the questionnaire on a smartphone. Replication files: The emergence of conventions in the repeated volunteer's dilemma: The role of social value orientation, payoff asymmetries and focal points

    No full text
Conventions are arbitrary rules of behavior that coordinate social interactions. Here we study the effects of individuals' social value orientations (SVO) and situational conditions on the emergence of conventions in the three-person volunteer's dilemma (VOD). The VOD is a step-level collective good game in which only one actor's action is required to produce a benefit for the group. It has been shown that if actors interact in the payoff-symmetric VOD repeatedly, a turn-taking convention emerges, resulting in an equal distribution of payoffs. If the VOD is asymmetric, with one “strong” actor having lower costs of volunteering, a solitary-volunteering convention emerges by which the strong actor volunteers earning less than others. In study 1 we test whether SVO promotes turn-taking and hampers solitary-volunteering. We find that groups with more prosocials engage less in turn-taking and no effect of SVO on the emergence of solitary-volunteering. In study 2 we test whether making one actor focal is sufficient for solitary-volunteering to emerge. We find instead that payoff asymmetry with one strong actor is a necessary precondition. We discuss explanations for our findings and propose directions for future research.Conventions are arbitrary rules of behavior that coordinate social interactions. SOECBIAS Data Set

    No full text
This dataset is usually no longer distributed. Please use the latest data set of the study (see "versions" below). The SOECBIAS data set is an output of the interdisciplinary research project SOECBIAS, funded by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in Germany and run at the Universität Hamburg. SOECBIAS studies income perceptions and redistributive preferences combining inequality research with social policy and welfare state research, in economics and sociology. SOECBIAS addresses three main questions: How do Europeans perceive national and European social policy? What explains the perception of one’s own income position within the EU income distribution? What are the consequences of these perceptions for the assessment of redistribution measures? The dataset includes a survey experiment in four European countries that investigates the similarity of income perceptions at the supra-national level of the EU and that tests the effect of informing participants about their income position on preferences towards social policy measures in Europe. This dataset is usually no longer distributed. Code/Syntax: The effect of education system and school characteristics on the gender gap in competencies. An international comparison.

    No full text
Code/syntax is provided here for a thesis expected to be published in late 2023. The previous citation can be found in the field 'Publications' / 'Publikationen'. Abstract of the thesis: To date, gender inequalities persist and vary between countries, e.g., the gender gap in mathematics and reading competencies, indicating that school and education system characteristics affect gender inequalities. Previous research demonstrates that schools and education systems do vary between countries and indicates that gender-specific educational inequalities are less well researched. Educational inequalities lead to inequalities in living standards and expectations, e.g., health, income, and social participation. Therefore, my aim is to explain how education system and school characteristics affect the gender gap in mathematics and reading competencies. To explain the effects of school and education system characteristics on gender inequalities, I adapt the macro-meso-micro model. At the micro level, I use theories, e.g., gender-specific socialization, highlighting how gender-specific expectations and stereotypes cause gendered interest and skills and therefore gender differences in mathematics and reading. Deriving a macro-meso-micro link, I explain how education system characteristics such as competition, differentiation, and standardization, and school characteristics, e.g., school time, retention rate, could increase or decrease the gender-specific socialization effects, leading to larger or smaller gender gaps in mathematics and reading competencies. On this basis, I perform a cross-national comparison of 78 countries participating in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018, combined with further researched macro data ( https://doi.org/10.7802/2605 ) with three-level mixed-effects models. The results show that boys have an advantage in mathematics, girls have an advantage in reading, the gender effects are slightly higher for reading, and the gender effects at the school level are more pronounced than those at the country level. Furthermore, the considered school and education system characteristics differently affect the gender gaps in mathematics and reading competencies. The school characteristics of school time and retention rates and the education system characteristics of competition and compulsory schooling (partly) explain the gender gaps. Above-average school time affects the gender gaps in favor of girls, decreasing the gender gap in mathematics and increasing it in reading, while above-average competition and compulsory schooling affects the gender gaps in favor of boys, increasing the gender gap in mathematics and decreasing it in reading. Furthermore, schools with above-average retention rates decrease the gender gap in reading.Code/syntax is provided here for a thesis expected to be published in late 2023.
