CARBON NANOTUBES- THE HOLY GRAIL IN ANTICANCERTHERAPY
Carbon nanotubes(CNT) are allotropes of carbon with cylindrical nanostructures. They can be visualized as a sheet of carbon atoms rolled up into a tube with a diameter of around tens of nanometers. They have electrical, optical, thermal, mechanical properties. There are two types of CNTs, single walled CNTs and multi walled CNTs. The multiwalled CNTs are formed by several concentric layers of rolled graphite. It has good adsorption properties which can detect some chemicals and biological agents. It is used to transport drug as well as proteins, DNA, RNA, into cells. The carbon network of shell is considered to be a result of the arrangement of carbon atoms in graphite sheets. Some properties of CNTs such as ease of cellular uptake, high drug loading, thermal ablation, among others, render them useful for cancer therapy. Cancer is one of the most challenging diseases of modern times because its therapy involves distinguishing normal healthy cells from affected cells. CNTs may prove to be the Holy Grail in cancer therapy because phenomena such as EPR, allow CNTs to distinguish normal cells from affected ones,. Considerable work has been done on CNTs as drug delivery systems over the last two decades. However, concerns over certain issues such as biocompatibility and toxicity have been raised and warrant extensive research in this field
ANALYSIS OF GENE EXPRESSION IN NORMAL AND ONCOGENETRANSFECTED CELLS OF RAT MODEL
Cells in culture offer many opportunities to study the characteristics of both the normal and cancer cells. In order to understand the molecular mechanisms of cell proliferation, an attempt has been made to study the proteins which are at different phases of the cell cycle. To achieve this objective, rat embryo fibroblasts were synchronized at Go phase by serum starvation for 72h and then stimulated with serum mitogens or purified growth factors. The newly synthesized proteins were labeled with [35S] methionine at different phases of the cell cycle after stimulation and the secreted proteins were analyzed by SDS- polyacrylamide gels. One of the proteins which has shown to be involved in growth regulation was purified and bioassays were carried out to determine its function. The protein 48 KDa was found to be a major compound of the extracellular matrix (ECM) whereas the protein 26 KDa was not a matrix associated protein. When the cells were arrested at G1/S boundary with hydroxyurea (HOU), high levels of protein with 45KDa protein was observed in the medium. Normal rat embro fibroblasts were transfected with myc and ras oncogenes and the transformed colonies were cultured and purified 45KDa protein inhibited the DNA synthesis of myc and ras oncogene transformed cells in which the 45KDa protein secretion was down regulated, indicating the inhibition of DNA synthesis
Clinical and Microbiological Profile of Pathogens in Febrile Neutropenia in Haematology Malignancies: A Single Center cross-sectional type of observationalstudy
BackgroundNeutropenia is a clinical condition in a body occurs when a low number of neutrophils in the blood.Febrile neutropenia is a clinical condition in which development of a high fever with signs of infection inthe body. It is a most common postoperative complication of anticancer treatment. The aim of the studywas to evaluate the current practices used in the institution and for culture sensitivity in isolatedmicroorganisms.Material and methods: 50 hospitalized patients are selected for the study. All the patients are providedinformed consent before starting of the study.Results: 50 patients selected from the study 36 were males and 14 were females. 42 Patients were foundthe gram negative infections. The most common bacteria found in the culture media was Escherichia coli.8 (15%) Patients were found the gram positive microorganisms stain and most common bacteria found inthe culture media was Staphylococcus aureus.Conclusion: In our study we concluded that there decrease in the level of infection in the body due to grampositive microorganisms. For doctor the main concern was the gram negative microorganisms and furthersurveillance needed. In our study the results shows that the sensitivity for antibiotic therapy inantibiogram
Toxoplasma gondii infestation among pregnant women In Mahajanga, Madagascar
Toxoplasmosis is a public health concern mostly among pregnant women in developping countries.The study aims to determine the seroprevalence of the infection on pregnant women, to identifywhether it is a recent or an old infection and to assess risk factors.A prospective and detailed survey was then conducted from July to October 2016 at the the integratedhealth centre of Mahabibo and the basic health centre of Tanambao Sotema in Mahajanga which is awest north city of Madagascar. The blood specimens were collected and then sent to the UniversityHospital Center Zafisaona Gabriel laboratory.In whole, 49 subjects were investigated with a mean age of 25 years old. The seroprevalence of the oldinfection (IgG+ and IgM-) was of 61% (n=30), non-immunized pregnant women (IgG- and IgM-)represented a rate of 39% (n=19). None of them was diagnosed with an acute infection (IgG+ andIgM+). No significant relation was associated between the infestation of Toxoplasma gondii andhousehold cats, neither with housekeeping occupation nor with education level, whether being awareor not of the infection (p>0.05).Toxoplasmosis is poorly known at Malagasy people. The seroprevalence in non-immunized pregnantwomen and those at risk is revealed to be high
Death due to Poisoning with special reference toinsecticide
Insecticide poisoning is a major public health problem in the world, particularly in developing nations, its usage has increased in recent and past thus increased even its misuse to commit suicide. This retrospectivestudy was carried out at department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Al Ameen Medical college, Bijapur,India with the insecticide poisoning cases from the year of 2009 and 2013. . During this study period a total 5742 Medico legal autopsies were conducted, amongst them poisoning cases constitutes 744 cases, out of these 186 other poisoning cases, 558 cases were due to fatal insecticide poisoning. Males were outnumbered with 340 cases and females were 218 cases. More number of the cases were found in the age group of 21–30 years 164 followed by 31-40 years 136. Most victims were from rural area, married population outnumbering the married. There are 424 victims were from rural area while 134 were from urban area and 446 were married, 112 were unmarried
Phytochemical screening and bioevaluation of medicinal plant Stachytarpheta indica(L.)Vahl
Leaf and stem solvent extracts of Stachytarpheta indica were subjected to phytochemical analysis, cytotoxic activity and their antioxidant potential. Both the extracts were rich in phytochemicals like alkaloid, saponins, tannins and phlobotanins. Besides this both the samples were moderate in carbohydrates but rich in protein content. Antibacterial Activity in Extract of Bauhinia. Vahlii
Bauhinia species have a long history of traditional medicinal applications. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antibacterial potential of the ethanol extracts of B. vahlii roots, barks, and seeds was tested for antimicrobial activity against bacterial water borne pathogens using agar well diffusion assay the antibacterial activities were found to be species independent. Effectiveness of the extracts against different bacterial strains was measured in terms of zone of inhibition in millimeters. The values determined were compared with the positive control (Ampicilin) with highest antimicrobial activity against all tested microorganisms

Dental amalgam has served as an excellent and versatile restorative material for many years. There is still no adequate economic alternative for dental amalgam. Pins are used whenever adequate resistance and retention forms cannot be established with slots.locks and other undercuts only. Outcome of obstetric patients admitted to the intensivecare unit: a one year retrospective
Aim : To know the causes of ICU admissions of obstetrical and gynecological cases and their outcome interms of survival and mortality.Materials and methods: Study done retrospectively, in one year duration (June 2013- June 2014) amongthe ICU admissions of Banaras Hindu University, tertiary care centre. Total no. admitted 117 in one yearduration from obstetrics and gynecology department .Among these 104 cases were obstetrical and 6 casesgynecological.Results: Among 117 patients admitted in ICU 84 (71.7%) were age group between 20 to 30 yrs. Mostcommon cause of admission among obstetrical cases was pregnancy associated hypertension 23 (19.6%).Maternal mortality of ICU admissions were 40(34.1%) and patient survived 70 (59.8%).Conclusions: Pregnancy induced hypertension and hemorrhage including antepartum and postpartum,these are major cause of maternal mortality in our country. Although mortality is 34.1% among ICUadmissions but 59.8% patients could be survived. This study is indicating, there is need of strongapplications of health care delivery system at rural and urban population by which obstetricalcomplications can be reduced
