Project LANGTI: Student survey about language learning for translation and interpreting purposes

    No full text

About

This dataset was generated in the scope of the LANGTI project (Languages for Translations and Interpreting) conducted by Astrid Schmidhofer at the Department of Translation Studies at the University of Innsbruck. It targets language learning processes of students in translation and interpreting programmes.

Context and methodology

The dataset is part of an online survey studying language learning processes of students in translation and interpreting programmes. The questionnaire which was used for data collection comprises 7 questions about participants and 40 questions about their language learning process. The latter address the following aspects: goals of language learning, knowledge of oneself as a learner, conscience of activity and strategy choice, conscious choice of learning tools, experience in language learning, former knowledge of languages, reference to TI competences and processes, awareness of motivation, awareness of emotions, and awareness of attitudes.

Data were collected through the online survey tool Limesurvey between November 2023 and January 2024. Potential participants were contacted through institutional email, colleagues and student networks.

Technical details

The dataset structure follows the structure of the questionnaire. In order to read the dataset, SPSS or a comparable software is required. Additional information about the questionnaire can be requested from the PI.

Further details

Initially, the questionnaire was conceived as a comparative study between students and professional translators and interpreters. Due to a change in the overall research design of the project, only data from students were collected.</p&gt
