    Recommender systems (letterlijk vertaald 'aanbevelingssystemen') zijn dedrijvende kracht achter aanbevelingen en feeds in onder andere webwinkels,streamingdiensten en sociale media. Deze aanbevelingen hebben grote invloedop welke artikelen we lezen of kopen, of welke meningen we horen. Echter, dezeaanbevelingen zijn vaak niet objectief, waardoor bestaande ongelijkheden in desamenleving kunnen vergroten. In dit artikel beschrijven we hoe transparantealgoritmes en verklaringen dit tegen kunnen gaan, en presenteren we interactiepatronendie gebruikers meer controle over hun aanbevelingen geven

    The influence of ROS1 fusion partners and resistance mechanisms in ROS1-TKI-treated non-small cell lung cancer patients

    Clinical outcomes in ROS1-fusion positive (ROS1+) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by fusion partner and resistance mechanisms are limited. This cohort study included 56 ROS1+ patients (FISH or NGS confirmed); fusion partners were identified in 27 cases, including CD74 (n = 10), EZR (n = 7), and SDC4 (n = 7). Clinical data were available for 50 patients (median age 62; 51% female; 32% never-smokers). Forty patients received tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), mostly crizotinib (n = 38). Crizotinib showed a 55% objective response rate (ORR) and a median progression-free survival (mPFS) of 5.3 months. Brain metastases (HR 2.65, 95% CI 1.06–6.60, P = 0.037) and prior chemotherapy (HR 3.17, 95% CI 1.35–7.45, P = 0.008) had a higher risk of progression. Sixteen patients received subsequent lorlatinib, with an ORR of 28% and mPFS of 3.7 months. G2032R and L2026M resistance mutations were identified in four lorlatinib non-responders, and in vitro studies confirmed resistance to lorlatinib. Fusion partners did not affect crizotinib outcomes. Lorlatinib was ineffective against on-target resistance. Real-world data showed lower TKI efficacy than clinical trials, highlighting the role of clinical and molecular factors in treatment response

    Algorithmic affordances—interactive mechanisms that allow users to exercise tangible control over algorithms—play a crucial role in recommender systems. They can facilitate users’ sense of autonomy, transparency, and ultimately ownership over a recommender’s results, all qualities that are central to responsible AI. Designers, among others, are tasked with creating these interactions, yet state that they lack resources to do so effectively. At the same time, academic research into these interactions rarely crosses the research-practice gap. As a solution, designers call for a structured library of algorithmic affordances containing well-tested, well-founded, and up-to-date examples sourced from both real-world and experimental interfaces. Such a library should function as a boundary object, bridging academia and professional design practice. Academics could use it as a supplementary platform to disseminate their findings, while both practitioners and educators could draw upon it for inspiration and as a foundation for innovation. However, developing a library that accommodates multiple stakeholders presents several challenges, including the need to establish a common language for categorizing algorithmic affordances and devising a categorization of algorithmic affordances that is meaningful to all target groups. This research attempts to bring the designer perspective into this categorization

    The impact of lighting and indoor air quality conditions on students’ well-being in higher education:a full factorial design approach

    This study examines the impact of moderate and high lighting and indoor air quality (IAQ) conditions on students’ well-being during a regular academic course in higher education. To determine the precise contribution of these two indoor environmental factors, students’ perceptions of their well-being were examined with the Positive and Negative Affect, Basic Emotional Process, and Karolinska Sleepiness Scale. Data were collected from 83 students, resulting in 285 responses, distributed across four combinations of moderate and high IAQ conditions, resp. > 800 ppm ≤ 950 ppm carbon dioxide (CO2) and < 800 ppm CO2, and moderate and high horizontal illuminance (HI) levels, resp. 500 lx and 750 lx. The results indicated that high HI levels did not enhance students’ perceived well-being compared to moderate levels. However, high IAQ conditions significantly contributes to students’ well-being, compared to moderate conditions. Interaction effects between the two factors were observed at moderate conditions

    Development and validation of MyCommunication-Youth:a self-report measure for communicative participation in children, adolescents and young adults

    BACKGROUND: Communicative participation is the most important outcome of speech and language therapy, but there are no measurement instruments for children, adolescents, and young adults. This paper describes the development of MyCommunication-Youth: an item bank to measure self-reported communicative participation in children, adolescents and young adults with various communication disorders.AIMS: 1) To develop a comprehensive, comprehensible item bank for measuring communicative participation in children, adolescents, and young adults with communication problems. 2) To assess the content validity of the item bank in a sample of these groups. 3) To define criteria for the minimal age at which children with communication difficulties can self-report their communicative participation.METHOD: Based on a literature review and two concept elicitation studies three initial versions of item pools were developed: one for children, one for adolescents and one for young adults. These pools were pilot tested, using cognitive debriefing interviews, on comprehensibility and comprehensiveness in a diverse group of participants with communication difficulties, whereafter a second version of the item pools were created. Hereafter, the content validity was assessed in the target population and in a group of speech and language therapists.RESULTS: Initially, three item pools were created for children (58 items), adolescents (78 items), and young adults (84 items). In the pilot test with 33 children adolescents and young adults with communication difficulties, items were revised for comprehensibility, some items were added for comprehensiveness, and some items were deleted because they appeared irrelevant, resulting in updated pools of 50, 69, and 72 items. In the content validity study, cognitive interviews with 27 participants and a focus group with 8 professionals identified additional revisions. Most items were comprehensible, but some were irrelevant for specific subpopulations of communication difficulties. Two new items were added after the input of professionals, whereafter the item bank was found comprehensive.CONCLUSIONS: MyCommunication-Youth is an item bank for measuring communicative participation in children, adolescents and young adults with various communication difficulties. Three versions of the instrument were created: MyCommunication-Children of 49 items, MyCommunication-Adolescents of 70 items and MyCommunication-YoungAdults of 73 items. The item bank is comprehensible, relevant and comprehensive according to the target population and target professionals.</p
