Sustainable packaging: Does eating organic really make a difference on product-packaging interaction?

    No full text
The recent years have recognized the increasing consumption of organic food. Nonetheless, although environmental concern is one of the roots of organic food, little importance is given to food packaging even if it is one of the primary causes for pollution. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the factors underlying the purchase intention of organic food in sustainable packaging according to organic consumers’ perspective in Portugal. The Theory of Planned Behavior served as the theoretical framework and was further extended by incorporating environmental concern and perceived environmental knowledge as additional constructs. Using a questionnaire survey, a total of 311 responses from organic consumers were collected. Empirical results of multiple linear regressions showed the usefulness of the Theory of Planned Behavior in predicting the purchase intention of organic consumers, which was 70,3% explained by the set of variables attitude, personal norms, and perceived behavioral control. The impact of environmental concern and perceived environmental knowledge on the purchase intention was declined, although these variables explained 26% of total variance of organic consumers’ attitudes towards sustainable packaging. This study contributed to advance knowledge on the coherence between organic eaten preferences and the choice of sustainable packaging. Ultimately, it raises concerns for the fact that, although organic consumers reveal environmental concerns and perceived environmental knowledge, more efforts need to be done to contribute to cleaner production systems regarding sustainable packaging. These insights will be helpful for pursuing the twelfth Sustainable Development Goal “Responsible Consumption and Production” by raising awareness to reduce the ecological footprint of organic food packaging

    Introduction

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book highlights nation branding cases from various continents. It describes how various European countries are developing their nation brand strategy. The book helps the readers to understand the concept of nation branding better and appreciate the strategies that different European countries have implemented. It presents some case studies that highlight the complexity of a place brand strategy. There are three important concepts that emerge from the case studies: brand architecture, governance models and research-based strategy. From these cases it is concluded that one of the biggest challenges in running a country as a brand is the strategic management of different places within a country, whether they are cities or regions. A less effective approach to nation branding is where countries develop a number of advertising campaigns that they consider to be a nation-branding strategy

How to Challenge University Students to Work on Integrated Reporting and Integrated Reporting Assurance

    No full text
Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, society has become more sensitive to sustainability and to the consequences of companies’ activities. Furthermore, the demands for change in corporate reporting have led to the emergence of integrated reporting (IR) and an increase in the disclosure of nonfinancial information assurance to ensure the compliance of integrated information. Universities need to embrace this challenge and be part of this change. This research’s goal is to enhance the diffusion of IR and integrated reporting assurance (IRA) in the curricula of universities by presenting a tool for professors and universities to help introduce the subjects in higher education institutions. The methodological approach develops a theoretical analysis of published IR and IRA articles related to education, to create a presentation of the challenge learning method (CLM) for professors and high education institutions to develop the subject of IRA to challenge students. Considering teaching experience as a value-added component to research the proposed method comes from the teaching experience of the authors. The result consists of a method that can increase accounting academics knowledge of IR and IRA and motivate students to study these emerging accounting practices. This study contributes to the extant literature on IR, IRA and Education that is scarce, the use of appropriate teaching methods to IR and IRA, and the dissemination of IR and IRA in education by providing a better connection between the universities and the best practices of corporate reporting and auditing. This study leads to an increase in the connection among higher education institutions, professors, students, practitioners, auditors, regulators, standard setters, and society in general

Omnichannel in FMCG: Digitally enhancing retail consumer journey

    No full text
Consumption and consumer behavior are changing. Consumers today find more alternatives and expect consistent, integrated, and uniform experiences, regardless of the sales channel they use, while switching between channels seamlessly. Thus, the need to better integrate the digital and physical experiences in retail, i.e., omnichannel. With the proliferation of smartphones and mobile Internet, the digital media enters the buying process, gaining relevance in relation to physical stores. This is particularly true with millennials, highly familiar, and dependent on technology, particularly Millennials. Therefore, challenges arise for retailers. This paper aims to contribute to the understanding of the impact of an integrated shopping experience through the integration a mobile device. Thus, a literature review on the fields of consumer behavior, consumer decision-making process, consumer experience with the brand, and omnichannel, was made, followed by a discussion and suggestions for further research which are to be carried

Cultural mediations between branding and lifestyles: A case study based model for the articulation of cultural strategies and urban tribes

    No full text
This paper aims to cross concepts and analytical approaches in culture, strategy and urban tribes to provide a process that can diagnose brand communication pieces and larger campaigns within a specific cultural landscape or larger contexts. With a mix of qualitative methods, this articulated critical approach allows for the understanding of branding and strategic communication objects. Within a scope of cultural analysis, it is possible to activate a textual reading that highlights both visible and invisible webs of meaning. These impact the way we read brand texts and can be made to inspire urban tribes and activate identification mechanisms that inhibit collective mindsets. This cultural diagnosis process of brand objects can generate important strategic insights for brand communication and management

Marketing automation in business-to-business relationships and the emerged value cocreation

    No full text
By the time of COVID pandemic and the consequent physical contact restrictions, relationship marketing requires the use of digital technologies. While digital marketing and marketing automation has been widely researched in the business-to-consumer (B2C) context, this chapter discusses the use of marketing automation in business-to-business markets and explores how value cocreation occurs. Contextualized in the Service Dominant Logic (SDL) theory to explain the value emerged, the inbound content marketing methodology rises as a strategy to nurture, classify and follow leads throughout the selling process and guarantee that content is delivered correctly to the target. Four interviews with managers of companies using inbound marketing and marketing automation in B2B were conducted. Results evidenced the importance of offering useful and relevant content to the audience through the various digital platforms available, namely the companies’ website, blog, social networks and email marketing

Health care institutions (HCI in further text) are in constant interplay with their context, generating ensuing opportunities and threats. Knowledge management has been paramount when it comes to integrating state-of-art technologies in order to improve system efficiency and decision processes in hospital management outputs. Thus, it is pivotal to explain the role of knowledge management in hospital management. Research of peer-reviewed articles published from 2009 to 2019, and obtained via the Scopus database, was carried out based on two key subjects, ‘knowledge management’ and ‘health care institutions’. The research was performed through a descriptive, quantitative and qualitative analysis of the most cited 47 scientific articles found in the SCOPUS database. We conclude that 'knowledge management' (KM in further text) has become an important research area in terms of HCI management. The article identifies the central themes in KM research in HCI. However, the area on KM literature is highly fragmented, requiring development. Based on an analysis of the collected literature, we identified the key research themes and resulting development patterns, namely, the integration and interoperability of knowledge from different sources into a single platform, occupational safety, the need to ascertain quality and pertinent information among general web information, culture and social behaviour and data security. We posit that KM effectively facilitates the utilization of healthcare information resources and management decision making in hospitals

Color in web banner advertising: The influence of analogous and complementary colors on attitude and purchase intention

    No full text
The purpose of this paper is to study how color contrast (complementary vs. analogous colors) affect individuals’ attitude and purchase intention in the context of web banner advertising. Previous research on the effect of color in marketing stated that color is one of the most important factors for fast decisions regarding product choice. However, the study of color has mainly focused on isolated colors (hue) and color temperature (cool vs. warm colors). Thus, color contrast studies are lacking. Two experimental studies (Ntotal = 409) were conducted in the context of web banner advertising. Study 1 involved a service setting (a wireless internet service provider) and Study 2 focused on a product category (a wireless headphone set). Findings revealed that the blue-green analogous color set tend to elicit higher levels of both attitude towards the ad and purchase intention. The results were partially confirmed for Study 1 and (totally) confirmed for Study 2. This research work contributes to shed some light into color perception and e-commerce strategy thus helping marketers and designers to create more effective web banner advertisements

Adaptive branching quests based on automated planning and story arcs

    No full text
Interactive storytelling in games is a powerful tool to create immersive and engaging experiences for players. In this context, the adherence to a predefined story arc, coupled with adaptation to individual personality traits, are essential to ensure, at the same time, thematic consistency and player involvement in story-driven games. One promising way to meet such requirements is to treat plot composition as an interactive plan-generation problem, and develop a method whereby branching quests can be adequately handled and adapted in real-time. A key feature of the method is the ability to, after evaluating the effects of player decisions, perform the adaptations needed to keep the current story arc in close approximation to the predefined story arc. The underlying player preference model uses a set of artificial neural networks trained, on the basis of the players’ responses to a brief Big Five personality test, to classify their preferences for specific quest decisions. This paper presents our quest adaptation method and summarizes the results we obtained through the application of our method in a fully implemented game prototype
