    Changes in the fashion industry and consumer choices in the Portuguese context: Strategic directions

    Background: This study aims to identify the changes in the fashion industry, during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically, within the context of online purchase of fashion products, the use of sportswear, the pondering moments before the purchase, and the importance of sustainability. Furthermore, we also consider sustainability as a fashion strategic factor and its impact in the decision-making process. Purpose: The main purpose is to understand if the type of products and the way they are purchased by the retail consumer have changed, and to assess if the level of importance granted to sustainability is significant, in particular, by evaluating the way COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the online purchase of fashion products, the use of sportswear, the pondering moments before the purchase, and the importance of sustainability. Furthermore, we evaluate if the level of importance granted to sustainability, in the decision-making process, is still the same. Study design/methodology/approach: Quantitative analysis was applied, through an observation data collection technique, using a survey by questionnaire. The sample is non-probabilistic, with the accidental and snowball sampling modalities. Findings/conclusions: the companies must define new strategies to answer their consumers’ real needs, because we verify that consumer behaviour changed. It was verified that there was a growth in the amount of online shopping of fashion products, the use of sportswear increased, the level of pondering before buying expanded, and the increasing importance of sustainability became evident. Limitations/future research: A non-probabilistic sample was used, which prevents the possibility of extrapolating general conclusions

    Measuring marketing performance: A better model

    Purpose: Marketing professionals are under pressure to implement methods and metrics that demonstrate the value of the function. This paper aims to propose a model to measure marketing performance, focusing on four categories of metrics and two types of factors that influence the effectiveness of the assessment process. Design/methodology/approach: The paper is organized in three parts. The first part includes a synthesis of the theoretical background on the subject. Next, the rationale and architecture of the model are presented, together with an explanation of the elements that compose it. A reflection on the work developed is presented in the last section. Findings: Benefits regarding how to best assess marketing practice are considerable, as organizations with effective performance measurement systems tend to show better results than others. In this context, the choice of metrics is important, but it is also necessary to understand the mechanisms through which the effectiveness of the measurement process can be improved. Originality/value: Literature has mainly focused attention on the effect of individual programs on specific measures or on conceptual models that do not sufficiently address all major elements in the marketing assessment process. This work extends previous contributions on the subject, presenting a model that combines metrics with factors underlying the measurement process

    This is the second international scientific conference of the Universidade Europeia Business and Social Sciences School on the subject of "Navigating The Future of Management". It is our goal to face the future of management considering its major functions – Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Information Systems, Operations, Quality, Research, Development, and Innovation – and the present and future changes within the scientific and technological panorama. Big data, 3D and 4D prints, cryptocurrency, genetic therapies, costless and inexhaustible energy sources, intelligent transport, the new generation of logistics, quantum computing, augmented reality, virtual reality, IoT, robotics and its growing impact on task implementation, nanotechnology, E-learning, the genome, the organoid and the substantial increase in life expectancy are at the root of future changes. It is up to educational institutions, and particularly universities, to develop prospective studies and exercises, to trace contrasting scenarios and therefore to conceive predictive approaches, enabling the illumination of the future while promoting more flexible decision-making systems and improving enterprise adaptability. The scientific committee of the conference has selected 30 papers submitted mostly by researchers and PhD students. The chosen themes cover different areas of management science.     Evaluation of radio access protocols for V2X in 6G scenario-based models

    The expansion of mobile connectivity with the arrival of 6G paves the way for the new Internet of Verticals (6G-IoV), benefiting autonomous driving. This article highlights the importance of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication in improving road safety. Current technologies such as IEEE 802.11p and LTE-V2X are being improved, while new radio access technologies promise more reliable, lower-latency communications. Moreover, 3GPP is developing NR-V2X to improve the performance of communications between vehicles, while IEEE proposes the 802.11bd protocol, aiming for the greater interoperability and detection of transmissions between vehicles. Both new protocols are being developed and improved to make autonomous driving more efficient. This study analyzes and compares the performance of the protocols mentioned, namely 802.11p, 802.11bd, LTE-V2X, and NR-V2X. The contribution of this study is to identify the most suitable protocol that meets the requirements of V2V communications in autonomous driving. The relevance of V2V communication has driven intense research in the scientific community. Among the various applications of V2V communication are Cooperative Awareness, V2V Unicast Exchange, and V2V Decentralized Environmental Notification, among others. To this end, the performance of the Link Layer of these protocols is evaluated and compared. Based on the analysis of the results, it can be concluded that NR-V2X outperforms IEEE 802.11bd in terms of transmission latency (L) and data rate (DR). In terms of the packet error rate (PER), it is shown that both LTE-V2X and NR-V2X exhibit a lower PER compared to IEEE protocols, especially as the distance between the vehicles increases. This advantage becomes even more significant in scenarios with greater congestion and network interference

    Cyber resilience and intelligent transport systems, a scoping review

    The scoping review reported by this article aimed to analyze and synthesize state-of-the-art studies focused on the integration of cyber resilience in the implementation and deployment of intelligent transport systems, namely in terms of (i) cyber resilience functions being considered, (ii) relative importance of the different transport types, and (iii) how the proposed solutions are being validated. An electronic search was conducted, and 23 studies were included in this review after the selection process. According to the findings, cyber resilience represents a gap of the current research related to intelligent transport systems and, therefore, additional efforts are required to guarantee that they are resilient to cyber-attacks and other adverse events

    Effects of physical exercise in sarcopenia on patients undergoing bariatric surgery: A protocol for a randomized clinical trial

    Severe obesity is a chronic disease and bariatric surgery is the treatment with more proven efficacy in reducing weight. After surgery, the weight loss is greatly associated with a significant reduction of skeletal muscle and bone mineral mass, with an increased risk of sarcopenia for these patients. Prophylactic programs that prevent sarcopenia in bariatric surgery patients seems to be one of the crucial points for the long-term surgical success of bariatric and metabolic surgery. This article aims to describe a protocol using supervised exercise applied after bariatric surgery on skeletal muscle mass index, body composition and strength to determinate sarcopenia in bariatric patients. A RCT will be conducted with 46 patients. Baseline measures will be compared with measures after de exercise program, in five different chronologic times. Participants will be randomly allocated to: 1) combined exercise group or 2) control group. The intervention will be 16 weeks for a combined exercise, started 1 month after surgery. The present study is expected to generate significant information about the role of exercise in patients undergoing bariatric surgery

    Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) for the assessment of body composition in oncology: A scoping review

    Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) is a reliable, non-invasive, objective, and cost-effective body composition assessment method, with high reproducibility. This scoping review aims to evaluate the current scientific and clinical evidence on BIA for body composition assessment in oncology patients, under active treatment. Literature search was conducted through MEDLINE, CINAHL, Scopus and Web of Science databases, following PRISMA-ScR Guidelines. Inclusion criteria comprised studies reporting the use of BIA for body composition evaluation in adults with cancer diagnosis. Studies including non-cancer pathology or only assessing nutritional status were excluded. This scoping review comprised a total of 36 studies: 25 were original studies including 18 prospective studies, six cross-sectional studies and one retrospective study and 11 were systematic reviews. Population size for the included original articles ranged from 18 to 1217 participants, comprising a total of 3015 patients with cancer with a mean baseline Body Mass Index (BMI) ranging from 20.3 to 30.0 kg/m2 and mean age ranging between 47 and 70 years. Review articles included a total of 273 studies, with a total of 78,350 participants. The current review considered studies reporting patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) (n = 8), breast cancer (BC) (n = 4), esophageal cancer (EC) (n = 2), liver cancer (n = 2), pancreatic cancer (PC) (n = 3), gastric cancer (GC) (n = 3), colorectal cancer (CRC) (n = 8), lung cancer (LC) (n = 1), skin cancer (SK) (n = 1) and multiple cancer types (n = 6). BIA is a suitable and valid method for the assessment of body composition in oncology. BIA-derived measures have shown good potential and relevant clinical value in preoperative risk evaluation, in the reduction of postoperative complications and hospital stay and as an important prognostic indicator in persons with cancer. Future research on the diagnostic value and clinical applications of BIA and BIA-derived phase angle (PhA) should be conducted in order to predict its impact on patient survival and other clinical outcomes
