Talent analysis model in small and medium enterprises
The objective of this research is to develop the conceptualization of a model for tracking the evolution of the value of talent, with the aim of monitoring their level of satisfaction and progress that allows to predict situations of risk of Talent loss. To conduct this study, we used the research methodology, Mixed Methods (i.e., qualitative, and quantitative approach) the integration of the two studies, intends validating the research and the dimensions of analysis of the Monitoring Indicators of Talent Employees Career (MITEC). The model developed to support managers, managers, and Human Resources (HR) is composed of 7 dimensions and 47 indicators. The study was carried out in Portugal, in the Lisbon area to the company typology Microenterprise and SMEs were conducted between and June and November 2021. Our intention is that MITEC is considered relevant by the 40 participants from SMEs and that it can be seen as a tool to support Talent Management, which allows monitoring commitment, satisfaction, and appreciation of the impact of talent on the organization to have a strategy to mitigate and prevent the risk of loss (i.e., Talent churn)
Cyber-resilience in the context of national security and defense
Ciber-resiliência é um conceito relativamente recente e que, no essencial,
acrescenta ao conceito cibersegurança a gestão de risco e alarga o âmbito da sua
atuação a processos e pessoas, para além da componente tecnológica. No fundo
The importance of events, happiness and brand love for a place sustainability
This study aims to understand to what extent effective events contribute to the image of the city that receives them, promoting the love of the city-brand and positively influence the happiness of the inhabitants and non-inhabitants. A case study was lead in the city of Cascais, using two events, ‘Estoril Open’ and ‘Festas do Mar – Cascais’. The surveys, based on validate models of event efficacy, brand love and happy cities, were applied in two distinct samples, one composed by the inhabitants of Cascais and the other by non-inhabitants. By testing hypothesis and through correlation analysis, was concluded that effective events contribute to the image of the host city, promoting the love of the city-brand and positively influencing the happiness of the inhabitants and not inhabitants
Experimental shake gesture detection API for Apple Watch
This paper introduces the WatchShaker project, an experimental API designed to detect shake gestures on the Apple Watch-A feature that is notably absent in the device's native functionality. Unlike existing gesture recognition tools, WatchShaker focuses on simplicity and ease of integration, offering developers a straightforward solution that leverages the Apple Watch's accelerometer data to detect and interpret shake gestures, including their directional nuances. Despite the absence of formal testing, the API has attracted significant attention from the developer community, underscoring the need for such a tool. This work not only fills a critical gap in Apple Watch's interactivity but also sets the stage for further research in enhancing wearable technology through intuitive gesture recognition
Event centrality and worthiness of the self mediate the link between exposure to multiple forms of violence and posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms in Portuguese young adults
The experience of being exposed to multiple forms of violence (polyvictimization) is a risk factor for higher severity of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms (PTSS) among young adults. World assumptions and event centrality have been proposed as two core processes that influence the association between exposure to multiple forms of violence and PTSS severity. The present study analyzed the effect of polyvictimization on PTSS through the mediation of both event centrality and world assumptions in Portuguese young adults. We tested the occurrence of a bidirectional relation between world assumptions and event centrality. A sample of 369 Portuguese young adults (M = 27.4; SD = 4.2) completed validated self-report questionnaires. Serial multiple mediation models were tested by conducting a structural equation modeling employing Preacher and Hayes’ procedures (2008). It was observed that event centrality did not mediate the association between world assumptions and PTSS. World assumptions about the worthiness of the self mediated the link between event centrality and PTSS. Higher direct and indirect exposure to traumatic events were significantly linked to higher levels of event centrality, which were associated with lower levels of worthiness of the self, which were associated with higher levels of PTSS. Overintegration of highly negative life events as reference points of individual’s identity and lower levels of worthiness of the self might aggravate PTSS, which might be seen as psychological distress mechanisms subsequent to exposure to multiple forms of victimization in young adults
The transformation of the digital communication of educational organizations in the pandemic period: New practices and challenges
The digital transformation caused by COVID-19 broke with classic communication models and brought about profound changes in institutional and marketing communication in educational organizations. In order to respond to this transformation, educational organizations had to quickly change and adapt different communication strategies in view of the current pandemic context. This article specifically focuses on the description of the transformation of digital communication that took place in two private education educational organizations in Portugal, before the pandemic (January–March 2020) and during the pandemic/confinement (March–June 2020). Following a quantitative and qualitative methodology, in the form of a multiple case study, we focused on listening through semi-structured interviews with directors, IT and communication technicians and questionnaire surveys with parents (n = 172) of both educational institutions. The results indicate that the crisis context raised by the COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced the role of communication in educational organizations and has profoundly changed the way of communicating. We conclude that regularity, proximity, clarity, and sincerity of communication increase trust in relation to the service provided. It is recommended that educational organisations adopt strategic co-communication plans and that they favour the use of social media and other online media, with a view to streamlining and flexibilities communication
The Internet gaming disorder and predictors of loneliness in portuguese higher education students: A preliminary study
This study explores the assesses the relationship between internet gaming disorder and loneliness with sociodemographic and academic variables, as well identify predictors of loneliness, in a group of Portuguese higher education students. The preliminary results presented in this study, show that students who live with their parents, present lower levels of loneliness. Results show that better satisfaction with friends and more intimacy contribute to better loneliness. High IGD values contribute to high loneliness values

Understanding the intricate relationship between design and reality: A semiotic case study analysis of the influence of design in the creation of reality
As technological advancements accelerate the convergence of physical and cyber realms, their boundaries are starting to become blurred. This paradigmatic shift into a multidimensional aspect of space is challenging spatial rules as we know them while also raising fundamental questions about our perception of reality. In this hypermobile era, humans not only traverse physical spaces but are also now able to navigate intricate cyber realms, empowering them to rethink, shape, and create their environment to their own will. Design being a key influencer in shaping human experiences assumes an important role both in how we perceive our world and in how we navigate and experience it. Its impact on our perception of the fundamental nature of reality is becoming increasingly evident. This article investigates this inherent connection between design and reality, more concretely within the context of our contemporary hypermobile era. Furthermore, a qualitative analysis of a design case study is conducted by employing Charles S. Peirce’s semiotic framework as a scientific analytical methodology. Through this analysis using a semiotic approach, a deeper understanding of the intrinsic impact of design in influencing the creation of our experienced reality can be revealed. The transformative potential of design in shaping our perception of and interaction with reality is highlighted through the obtained findings
