Between the summer of 1908 and the beginning of 1912 Guido Gozzano worked on an unfinished short poem, Le Farfalle, which expresses in verse his passion for collecting and for entomology. Shortly after, in 1914, Camillo Sbarbaro published Pianissimo, where the first traces of scientific study are combined with the impulse for collection, innervating the entire production of the poet: Sbarbaro is interested in lichens, «inconspicuous», «neglected» organisms, yet characterized by a tenacious polymorphism, equal to that of butterflies. What we want to demonstrate here is how the collection, as an organizational system of the elements of reality, shapes themes and formal structures of the authors’ poetry. The collection becomes an epistemological method to explore reality in its totality, at least potential, through the individual selected specimens. These elements take on the significance of universal symbols
Based on recent history-education publications on “education materials”
(Álvarez, Dávila, Naya 2017, pp. 827-845), that also include school notebooks, this contribution analyzes a new source constituted by the essays written by the students of the
Royal Lyceum “Alessandro Manzoni” in Milan kept in the Central State Archives. The
essays are about the biography of Marshal Rodolfo Graziani, one of the “makers of the
victory” of Italy in Ethiopia in 1936. The intent is to reveal the surviving of celebrative
stereotypes of this figure, still present in the Republican age, that had an active role in
building the memory of the Italian Colonial Age. The research studies in depth the Public
History that can successfully dialogue with local communities (Herman, Baster, Del Pozo
2022) that have to deal with monuments and street names of the Colonial Age
In
In
in scena. The title of the contribution refers to Georges Poulet's essay on The Metamorphosis of the Circle
(1961), evoking its transversal approach, aiming
to bring into dialogue different meanings, conceptions and examples of the “spherical” figure, in the
context of practices and reflections on theatre.
The hypothesis at the basis of the essay is that
alongside the affirmation of the model of the
“Teatro all’italiana” proposes in various ways solutions characterised by the curved line and
spherical form, unlike the scenic “box” marked by
orthogonal lines typical of the dominant theatre
(Italian-style), which has influenced our forma
mentis regarding the theatrical space. Generally
speaking, the “spherical” (or hemispherical)
model responds to the research on the perception
of infinity and of the extension of the gaze beyond
the frame. Categories that coincide with this “alternative” are those summarised by Étienne
Souriau as “cubic” and “spherical” (Le cube et la
Sphère, 1948). In this context the aesthetics and
practices of lighting ‘design’ are a main reference
School books exhibition. The historical collection of the G. Leopardi boarding school library in Macerata
This contribution aims to retrace the phases of the conception and realization of a Public History of Education project which involved the historical collection of
an important school library in Macerata, that of the G. Leopardi boarding school. The
collection has been chosen as an example of a historical-educational heritage of great importance, not only for the value of the books it contains (mostly textbooks and children’s
literature representative of the pedagogical canons of the Italian school between the 19th
century and 20th century), but also for the countless traces of individual and collective
memory it preserves (many examples are rich in extra-textual notes). This precious book
collection has been the subject of a virtual exhibition, created by students and designed
to stimulate knowledge and reflection on school libraries as treasures of inestimable value
for the purposes of reconstructing the identity and the memory of a place and of the community that inhabits it
Monti.
The essay explores the complex and refined use of
symbolism and allegory in the literary production
of Francesco Saverio Salfi and Vinncenzo Monti,
focusing particularly on Monti’s “I Pittagorici”. In
this dramatic Work, thr, the characters are pre sented through an intricate system of symbols and
codes that allude to figures from the Neapolitan
revolution, revealing a political subtext masked
by esoteric references.This symbolic approach
finds parallels in Salfi’s works, especially in the
Plateesi and in his translation of the Templari,
where the theme of martyrdom is central to the
literary context of the period. Furthermore, the es say examines the poem Iramo, massonico, which
delves into Masonic symbolism in the representa tion of the eternal struggle between good and evil.
Through the interpretation of Masonic allegory,
significant parallels emerge between political
power and initiatory wisdom, highlighting how
both authors use alkegory to exploreand critique
the political and social dynamicsof their time
Public history is defined as “the communication of history outside of the
academic environment” (AIPH 2018). From this perspective, a university museum can
communicate history in various ways, including participatory history projects, public exhibitions, history festivals, lifelong learning activities, campaigns of crowdsourcing, and
so on. Equally crucial, however, is the establishment of exhibition spaces capable of narrating history through simple and intuitive, yet scientifically grounded modes of communication. The ‘Paolo and Ornella Ricca’ School Museum, which was enlarged, renovated,
and reopened in December 2022, has completely revolutionised its exhibiting and communicating logic to translate historical content into a new layout. The latter has been
enhanced with new technological, communicative, and narrative solutions that provide a
light, accessible narrative. In addition, these solutions have made objects and historical
knowledge meaningful and ‘relevant’ to many contemporary audiences. The essay outlines the criteria that guided the authors – respectively the museum’s director and deputy
director during the renovation years – in designing the new exhibits, with a focus on
public history approach
