AN EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH ON THE INFLUENCE OF ADDITIION OF METAKAOLIN ON THE PROPERTIES OF GEOPOLYMER CONCRETE

Geopolymer concrete (GPC) is an innovative alternative to conventional Portland cement concrete, utilizing industrial by-products such as fly ash, slag, and metakaolin as primary binders. The use of metakaolin, a dehydroxylated clay, as an additive in geopolymer concrete has garnered significant attention due to its potential to enhance the mechanical and durability properties of the material. This experimental study investigates the influence of metakaolin addition on the properties of geopolymer concrete, focusing on workability, compressive strength, Split tensile strength, and durability performance.A series of geopolymer concrete mixes were prepared by varying the percentage of metakaolin (ranging from 20% to 100%) by weight of the binder. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) were used as alkaline activators to synthesize the geopolymer paste. The fresh properties of the concrete, including workability and setting time, were assessed using standard test methods. Cured specimens were tested at different ages (7, 14, and 28 days) to evaluate their compressive strength, split tensile strength. The experimental results revealed that the incorporation of metakaolin significantly improved the mechanical properties of geopolymer concrete, especially in terms of compressive and split tensile strength. The optimal metakaolin content was found to be around 80%, beyond which the strength gains plateaued or slightly decreased. The microstructural analysis indicated a denser and more cohesive gel matrix in metakaolin-blended samples, which enhanced the overall durability of the geopolymer concrete, including resistance to water absorption and chloride ion penetration. This study highlights the potential of metakaolin as an effective supplementary material to enhance the properties of geopolymer concrete, thus providing a more sustainable alternative to traditional cement-based concrete. The findings suggest that metakaolin not only improves the mechanical performance but also contributes to the environmental sustainability of geopolymer concrete by reducing the carbon footprint associated with cement production

Smart Response: RAG Enhanced Question Answering Model\u27, aims to revolutionize question answering systems by integrating RetrievalAugmented Generation (RAG). RAG synergizes a retriever for document search with a generator like a transformer model to ensure context-rich, factual, and coherent responses. This approach helps minimize hallucinations and offers domainspecific scalability, transforming applications in customer support, education, and more. RAG improves this by fusing a generative transformer model with retrieval-based data to provide factual and contextually rich responses. This project focuses on creating a smart, enhanced question answering model by leveraging Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). RAG aims to improve the accuracy and reliability of Large Language Models (LLMs) by providing them with external, dynamically updated knowledge sources, enhancing their ability to answer questions precisely and contextually. The project\u27s abstract will likely describe the challenges in question answering, the RAG approach as a solution, the components of the RAG system (retrieval and generation), and the expected benefits of the enhanced model, such as increased accuracy, improved context understanding, and the ability to handle complex conversational settings

The article analyzed the use of semiconductor nuclear radiation detectors, which are of great importance in the field of electronic technologies today. The volt-ampere characteristics of large nuclear radiation eight-band semiconductor coordinate-sensitive detectors were compared using a mathematical model. The values of the volt-ampere characteristics of all the bands of the semiconductor eight-band detectors were compared, and this process was carried out using the MATLAB software package. Mathematical modeling used the method of least squares. The obtained results showed that the proposed equivalent electrical circuit allows to describe the current and voltage values of Si(Li) p-i-n structures with high accuracy. It was found that the largest difference in the ratio of the current strength values in the results obtained by practice and modeling is 0.2358

This study was carried out to determine the heavy-metal pollution index (HPI) of groundwater sample near selected waste dumpsite in Port Harcourt. Two waste dumpsites in Choba and Aluu communities in River state were randomly sampled. Two different boreholes were sampled at different distances of 50m, 100m and 150m away from the dumpsites. Groundwater samples were collected from the boreholes and were taken to laboratory for identification of presence and concentration of the heavy metals. The results of the analysis revealed that; eight different heavy metals were discovered in the water samples around the dumpsites, and they include Copper, Mercury, Lead, Barium, Cadmium, Chromium, Iron and Zinc, the concentrations of these heavy metals were within the accepted standards for all the water sampled in Choba while that of Aluu were also within accepted standards except for Lead which is slightly higher than accepted standard at 50m and 100m away from the waste dumpsite, Heavy-metal Pollution Index (HPI) for water samples obtained at distances of 50, 100, and 150 meters away from the waste dumpsite in Aluu indicated that they were good for drinking while the HPI for water sampled from Choba showed that the water samples from 50m and 100m were good for drinking while the water sample from 150m was very good for drinking. It was concluded, among others, that, the concentration of heavy metal and heavy-metal pollution index of the groundwater around waste dumpsites depends on distance of the groundwater sample from the waste dumpsite. Therefore, it was recommended, among others, that regular and robust test should be carried out on boreholes of people living close to waste dumpsites in order to check for level of contamination and take necessary actions if the water is contaminate

EVALUATION OF BEHAVIOUR-BASED SAFETY AS AN INCIDENT PREVENTION TOOL IN SELECTED CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES IN PORT-HARCOURT

This research was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of behavior-based safety (BBS) approach as an incident prevention tool in selected construction companies in Port Harcourt. Analytical cross-sectional research design approach was adopted. Primary data were sourced through administration of a structured questionnaire. The population comprised of 542 workers (70 from small scale, 472 from medium scale company) from which 230 participants were sampled. 230 questionnaires were distributed and only 199 questionnaires were correctly filled and returned representing 86.5% response rate. Data analysis was done using SPSS version 25.0 software and Excel statistics while descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation were used for data analysis. The results of the Pearson correlation analysis showed that there is a significant and positive relationship between BBS and incident prevention because the correlation coefficient r is 0.602 indicating strong positive relationship and p-value is 0.000<0.01indicating significant relationship. This means that continuous improvement in the BBS approach will lead to a great reduction of incidents in construction companies. This suggests that the tendency of occurrence of incidents decreases as BBS rises. Results also reveals that there are some practices and behaviors identified by the BBS approach that might significantly influence incident prevention, as shown by the relatively strong positive association. Methodically collecting and analyzing data on safety behaviors and observations, training and education, employee participation, safety equipment and resources, workload and time pressure, and enhancing safety based on BBS findings were all components of this particular activity. There was a high probability that incidents will rise in the organizations unless these practices are implemented. The study recommended that construction firms should implement a comprehensive BBS program and create a positive safety culture that encourages employees to speak up about safety concerns
