Percepción de Humboldt en Iberoamérica
No full textCon motivo del 250 aniversario del nacimiento del explorador Alexander von Humboldt, en 2019 tiene lugar en Iberoamérica una temporada temática sobre Humboldt. El objetivo del studio es presentar las oportunidades y los desafíos de esta temporada temática, así como abordar las percepciones de Humboldt específicas de cada país, las cuales deben tenerse en cuenta al llevar a cabo la iniciativa. Al mismo tiempo, el trabajo de Humboldt es clasificado y evaluado críticamente en su contexto histórico, junto con una discusión sobre la actualidad de su pensamiento, su vision del mundo y su metodología. La mirada al marco histórico del viaje de investigación de Humboldt ayuda a comprenderlo mejor en su context político y contemporáneo, así como a señalar las causas de algunos de los modos particulares de recepción regional. Finalmente, el estudio pretende ofrecer ideas y recomendaciones concretas que conduzcan a una gestión exitosa del año temático, así como indicar el camino a seguir, más allá de esta iniciativa
Transnational foreign cultural policy – Beyond national culture
Get PDFAn overview of the development of the German foreign cultural and educational policy (FCEP), the analysis of rhetoric, terminology and different cultural concepts are the starting point for the discussion of a contemporary FCEP, which is committed to global regulatory objectives, acts in dialogue with partner countries and relies on cooperation with civil society actors, at home as well as internationally. Intercultural politics at home and foreign cultural policy go hand in hand. The biggest problem of a globally effective FCEP is the loss of credibility of German development policy as well as a lack of reflection concerning EU development policy with regard to the legacy of colonial history. Contrary to the postcolonial rejection of the nation state, the study argues for a strengthening of democratic, constitutional structures

Get PDFThis paper sets out to challenge the dominant narrative of the creative economy as a new option for developing countries. The much-vaunted growth rates proclaimed by UNCTAD's Creative Economy Programme have slowed, and are seen to apply to a particular kind of manufactured good, as well as being overwhelmingly dominated by Asia, and especially China. This paper tries to unpick the dominant creative economy model of entrepreneurship, creative human capital and open market opportunity and suggests that - other than in East Asia - it is business as usual for the Global North. The creative economy not only fails to deliver its promise of development but has profound consequences for local cultures, caught up in an ever more global web of exploitation driven by the new digital platforms. We need to return to the earlier concerns of 'culture and development' now fully aware of the downsides, as well as the potential, of cultural economies in an uncertain global landscape

No full textDer vorliegende Text ist die Zusammenfassung einer umfangreichen Studie zu den politischen Strategien religiöser Experten in den USA und Lateinamerika. Führer religiöser Organisationen nehmen in der jüngeren Vergangenheit immer stärkeren Einfluss auf die Politik in den Amerikas. Das hat Konsequenzen, wie an den Präsidenten Trump und Bolsonaro deutlich wird, die mit maßgeblicher Unterstützung religiöser Personen und Organisationen gewählt wurden. Die vorliegende Studie fokussiert Diskurse und Praktiken religiöser Experten im Blick auf das politische Feld freilich nicht nur mit der Lupe auf konservativen Eliten. Vielmehr werden die Spannungen zwischen Akteuren verschiedenster religiös-politischer Richtungen untersucht. Nach einer methodologischen Einführung werden zunächst die USA, Guatemala, Brasilien und Mexiko betrachtet. Dann werden kontroverse Themen aufgegriffen. Abschließend ziehen wir Rückschlüsse für die internationale Kulturkooperation

No full textAnlässlich des 250. Geburtstages des Forschungsreisenden Alexander von Humboldt findet 2019 die Humboldtsaison statt. Unbestritten ist, dass der preußische Gelehrte auch heute noch für die internationalen Kultur- und Wissenschaftsbeziehungen zwischen Deutschland und Lateinamerika eine bemerkenswerte Bedeutung hat. Diese Studie untersucht, wie Humboldt heutzutage in Lateinamerika wahrgenommen wird. Der Blick auf die historischen Rahmenbedingungen der Forschungsreise Humboldts soll sowohl dazu beitragen diese in ihrem zeitgenössischen und politischen Kontext besser zu verstehen, als auch auf die Ursachen für einige der regionalen Rezeptionsmodi hinzuweisen. Das Kennen dieses Kontextes ist von Bedeutung, um Teile der Kritik zu verstehen, die gegen ihn geäußert wird und gewisse, aus diesen historischen Gegebenheiten entstandene, Sensibilitäten in den einzelnen Regionen besser nachvollziehen zu können

Get PDFThe Brexit process is today at a crucial stage. In the UK, it is polarising opinion and creating divisions across a number of fault lines in British society between generations, geographies of inequality, cosmopolitan liberals and more rural conservatives, communities divided by historical conflicts of religion or nationality. In the European Union, similar tensions are everywhere - at the time of writing in France, above all, with the gilets jaunes, in Andalusia with the reappearance of far‐right politics in Spain, not to mention in Hungary with the Central European University forced out of Budapest. Societies are increasingly divided among themselves and against each other. This article considers the implications of Brexit for international cultural relations in Europe. It considers the case of Brexit, recognizes that Brexit is a process, or a state of mind, rather than a single event, and that the future is still to be negotiated. It concludes by suggesting that we should aim to learn from Brexit - whatever happens will be shaped by the lessons we can apply to make a more positive future
