NIRS calibration database on fresh mashed Matooke for color & texture at NaCRRI & IITA Uganda
This database contains 1312 NIR spectra of fresh mashed banana samples acquired in NaCRRI (Uganda) by using FOSS DS2500 NIR spectrometer.
Banana bunches are harvested at the green-mature stage: when the finger angles are filled but before the fingers start ripening. Each bunch is labeled by genotype and bunch number. Cluster 2 of each bunch is used for acquiring the NIRS on the harvesting day, according to the protocol described in the SOP. Four random fingers of cluster 2 are selected and divided into two equal halves, giving a total of eight halves. Four of the 8 halves are first used for texture analysis using a TA.XT (Stable Micro Systems) texture analizer. The same samples are then mashed using a mottle and a pestle and used for NIRS acquisition. The remaining samples are used to estimate dry matter content, using an oven on 50 g of fresh matter. Cluster 3 of the same bunch is used for colour analysis using a chromameter (CR-400). This dataset combines NIRS spectra, texture and colour
NIRS Calibration Database on Eba for textural properties at IITA Nigeria
This database contains 39 spectra data of gari-eba samples acquired using the FOSS XDS Rapid Content Analyzer (3013-0857). It also contains the instrumental texture profile analysis (TPA) of the gari-eba samples which were used as the laboratory reference values for model development

[FR] Ce jeu de données provient d'une étude menée dans des plantations de banane de Martinique. Treize parcelles de bananes provenant de cinq fermes différentes ont été sélectionnées parce qu'elles présentaient des scénarios contrastés de gestion des mauvaises herbes, allant de parcelles ne recevant aucun herbicide à des parcelles recevant 4-5 applications d'herbicides (glyphosate) par an. Les macro-arthropodes du sol ont été échantillonnés à l'aide de pièges Barber, ce qui a permis de collecter plus de 6 200 individus. Sur les 100 taxons différenciés, 75 ont pu être identifiés au niveau de l'espèce, ce qui a permis d'affecter chaque taxon à un groupe trophique et, lorsque cela était possible, de les classer selon s'ils étaient exotiques ou dans leur aire de répartition naturelle. [EN] This dataset was obtained from a study conducted in banana plantations in Martinique. Thirteen banana plots from five different farms were selected because they presented contrasting weed management scenarios, ranging from plots receiving no herbicides to plots receiving 4-5 herbicide (glyphosate) applications per year. Spatial models of animal mobility: buffalo and cattle in Southern Africa
A spatial model of animal mobility has been developed for buffalo and cattle at the interface between protected areas and rural communal lands in southern Africa. It simulates the movements of African buffalo (Syncerus caffer caffer) and domestic cattle (Bos taurus, Bos indicus) and has been applied at three interface areas located at the perophery of national parks in Zimbabwe and South Africa.
The model is based on a stochastic, agent-based approach and predicts the herds and individual animals locations from satellite-derived environmental data (land cover and water surfaces). Camera trap survey data of the project "Sustainable Wildlife Management" in Gabon (Mulundu Department).
This dataset describes the camera trap campaigns undertaken in the hunting territories of 10 village communities located in Mulundu Department (Ogooué-Lolo Province, East Gabon), as well as in the adjacent Ivindo National Park (INP) and a nearby logging concession granted to Precious Woods Gabon-Compagnie Equatoriale des Bois (PWG-CEB), in a sector that has been inaccessible and unlogged since 2008.
This dataset was collected as part of the EU Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme in Gabon.
This dataset includes 70,536 events (video of 5sec) of 49 different species. A first campaign was carried between April and July 2019 including 6 survey sites and a second campaign was carried out between June 2021 and July 2022 including 11 survey sites. Survey effort reached 22,809 camera days

Eba is a staple food commonly consumed in Nigeria and other West African countries. It is prepared by constituting gari (a pregelatinized, fine to coarse granular flour, made from fermented cassava mash) in hot water and stirred until a consistent dough is formed.

NIRS Database on fresh Matooke fingers at NaCRRI & IITA, Uganda
Consumer acceptability of new banana lines and introductions of fresh banana “matooke” cultivars for cooking is important in achieving breeding targets of the IITA and Ugandan breeding programs. The main thrusts include the defining of the main acceptability trait called “tookeness” which is defined by the composition of the banana/fresh matooke. In the current database, 211 spectra have been acquired from 34 genotypes of fresh matooke. The genotypes are part of the IITA collection hosted at Namulonge. Using the developed standard operating procedure developed for fresh matooke, spectra of the flesh of fresh fingers were scanned using an ASD Qualityspec spectrometer. Reference information for one of the definitive traits for tokeness-the dry matter content-was generated using the oven method. In total 43 replicate measurements for dry matter content were compiled corresponding to the different genotypes (some repeated) were undertaken. Calibrations on the same traits will be considered and the role of NIRS in determination of banana based DM will be undertaken. The relevance of NIRS in determination of other quantitative traits definitive of consumer acceptability is therefore under exploration
