NIRS Calibration Database on fresh grated cassava for DM at NaCRRI Uganda
No full textCassava utilization for food and/or industrial products depends on inherent root dry matter content (DMC). Accordingly, there is need to develop NIRS models to aid breeding and selection of dry matter content as a critical industrial trait taking care of root sample preparation and cassava germplasm diversity available in Uganda. For calibration development (300 clones) were used. Grating was the main sample preparation method. Reference DMC data was obtained by oven-drying. DMC in calibration samples ranged from 20 to 45%. Modified Partial least square (MPLS) regression model was used with the pretreatment carried out by SNVD over the segment 1100-2500nm at a 2nm step. The number of factors used was 8 while a total number of 13 outliers were eliminated. The regression coefficients (R2) of 0.997 were obtained while the R2 for cross validation was 0.993. In addition, the RMSEC was 0.28 while the RMSECV was 0.43. These findings show the robustness of NIRS in estimation of dry matter content and thus justify its use in routine cassava breeding operations

No full textThe spectra were collected from 3 cooked tubers, where the raw tubers were cleaned, peeled cut cross-sectionally across the mid-section and then cooked. After cooking, each piece was mashed on a plate and immediately scanned in a cuvette following the published SOP. Sensory data was collected by 12 trained panellists, who consumed small cubes of each cooked potato genotype and rated the overall liking of the samples on a 10-point hedonic scale ranging from 1 (dislike extremely) to 10 (like extremely), for each sensory trait per genotypes. Biochemical traits were collected following standard conventional procedures
ASSET Practical Lexicon: An agroecology lexicon in Vietnam
No full textThe overall objective of the ASSET Project is to transform food and agricultural systems in Southeast Asia more sustainable, safer and inclusive, through harnessing the potential of Agroecology.
In this context, a joint workshop ASSET-ALiSEA was organized by GRET and CIRAD in Vietnam the 30th of November 2022. An agroecology lexicon composed of 19 concepts and 175 terms was constructed in the context of this workshop. This lexicon could be used for the knowledge hub associated with the ASSET Project.
This dataset contains:
- A presentation that summarizes the results of this workshop
- The agroecology theoretical lexicon (TL) with terms validated
- The agroecology practical lexicon (PL) co-constructed in Vietnam
Results:
- Theoretical lexicon (TL): 16 concepts with 331 terms - 76 terms manually validated in the Workshop
- Practical lexicon (PL) constructed in Cambodia: 16 concepts (+ 3 concepts associated with the farming systems) with 175 terms. 68 terms come from the theoretical lexicon. <br

NIRS Calibration for Sugars on cooked freeze dried sweepotato
No full textThis database refers to spectra of 60 cooked and freeze dried sweetpotatoe genotypes from MDP in Uganda 2019 analyzed using a FOSS XDS spectrometer. 3-4 fresh roots per genotype were boiled, mixed, freeze dried and then scanned. Calibration results for fructose, glucose, saccharose and maltose show mainly high performance showing that NIRS can be applied very good for these traits on dried samples
