Jane Eyre and the Mad Angel in the House
application/pdfCharlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre (1847) is one of the most famous works of English domestic fiction, a genre that was established in the late 18th century and became popular during the 19th century. The central theme of domestic fiction is how a young woman, forming a modern family through a love marriage, becomes an angel in the house, a woman good for her husband and wise for her children. What this means is that domestic fiction served the function of reinforcing domestic ideology, which is a system of middle-class ideas created in order to maintain English national identity under capitalism and imperialism. Domestic ideology idealized the deeroticized woman in the domestic sphere as the moral center for the nuclear family and the nation-state while positioning the woman outside the home and state as its structural other. In doing so, this ideology played an important role in domesticating capitalism and justifying the expansion of the British Empire. At first glance, the narrative development of Jane Eyre seems to follow the logic of domestic fiction. As this paper argues, however, Jane becomes the angel in the house in the ending of the novel by losing herself in the madly intense sexuality that is supposed to be tamed by domestic ideology. Thus, what the author attempts to do in this novel is to deconstruct domestic ideology.journal articl

Spectrogram Transforms for Speech Enhancement by Image-to-image Translation
application/pdfWe aimed to examine well-known image-to-image translation technique, so-called pix2pix based on deep neural networks. Focusing on time-frequency analysis and implementing auxiliary classifier generative adversarial networks (ACGAN), we estimated the transform performance of spectrograms for sound enhancement. As a result using an image index, SSIM, we confirmed to slightly improve its performance compared to the original research.3Rin4-59

Generation of Facial Animation from Voice using End-to-End Learning
application/pdfExpressive facial animation has an important role in communication. Some avatars can express them using Face Tracking, that is one of the typical facial expression synchronization methods, but facial expressions cannot be created from previouslyrecorded speech or synthetic speech without facial expressions. In this study, we propose a method to generate facial animation using only voice. Specifically, a learning model is designed using the acoustic features of the uttered speech as input and the parameters of the Action Unit (AU) analyzed from the facial expression video as teacher data. The experimental results indicated that the loss value of our proposed method was lower than that of the existing method. In addition, the activities of AUs by proposed method fluctuated smoother than the existing method. It will be perceived as natural facial expression.2020年度(第34回) : 2020年6月9日-6月12日 : オンライン 3Rin4-04

Emotion Estimating Method by Substituting Voice and Facial Expression for Decoded Neurofeedback
application/pdfEmotion estimation method using Electroencephalogram (EEG) can estimate human’s emotion directly because it is not influenced by biases of expression and recognition process. However, it is difficult that all users put on the EEG headset at any time because it is so expensive and uncomfortable. Therefore, this paper propose a method to estimate emotion by substituting voice and facial expression for EEG. A Long short-term memory (LSTM) is utilized for machine learning method to deal with the transitions of facial expression and tone of voice. The acoustic features are the time-series variations of F0, voicing probability, and loudness calculated from a voice, and the facial expression features are the time-series variations of 12 kinds of facial parts. The experimental result indicated that the method just used facial expression features estimated the user’s emotions better than the other experimental conditions. The accuracies of valence, arousal, expectation were 0.621, 0.657, and0.578, respectively.2020年度(第34回) : 2020年6月9日-6月12日 : オンライン 3O5-GS-13-05
