Get PDFapplication/pdfIn the early 20th century, as nationalist movements spread around the world, a tendency to seek liberating ideology emerged in Brittany along with a distrust of decentralization. The « Parti Nationaliste Breton » (the first PNB) was created by a small number of young people, principally Camille Le Mercier d’Erm, who sought to go beyond the decentralization movement and build a stronger one. They created a movement for separation and independence from France because they thought decentralists, who accepted French dominance and influence, did not offer effective measures against the unequal relationship between France and Brittany, nor did they take action towards a solution to the « question bretonne ». The first PNB made a historical argument as justification for the existence of the Breton state.
This study focuses on the poet Camille Le Mercier d’Erm, who founded the first PNB. He was a « poète engagé » who rose to protest and campaign for Brittany to reaffirm and reassert its identity in the face of the economic and cultural threats from France. The aim of this paper is to clarify how the national movement of Le Mercier d’Erm was born and how it affected his literary activities, through the analysis of the first half of his life

Get PDFapplication/pdfAcademic research on baseball in the Dominican Republic has generally focused on players who have successfully signed professional contracts with teams in the Major League Baseball. In contrast, this paper relies on fieldwork carried out at a practice ground in the capital, Santo Domingo, to reveal the daily practices of young boys aiming to become professional players, their thoughts on baseball, and their relationships with each other. This study demonstrates that these boys’ daily practices are based on a programa (baseball school). Moreover, each programa has at least one entrenador (coach), and each player has his own jefe (boss). The relationship between these adults and youths are clear and fixed; however, there is a high degree of mobility among both adults and youths in programas, leading to the fluid arrangement of daily practices. In addition, this study reveals that youth players differ in terms of age, birthplace, position, contract, attitudes during practice, and future visions. While the boys generally think of themselves as compañeros (colleagues) rather than amigos (friends), they share things like drinks and snacks daily. Although this sharing is generally but not unconditionally tolerated, it is not without conditions, and the “have nots” need to demonstrate concern for the “haves.”journal articl
