    The Use of "qilai" after Verbs in the Chengdu Dialect : Focusing on "V qilai" and "V qi+lai"

    9000405860182The term “qilai” used after verbs is one of the important syntactic item in Chinese. It is a compound directional complement in Putonghua(Standard Mandarin) used to indicate the movement of a person/object from below to above, or the beginning/completion of an action. This syntactic item also exists in the Chengdu dialect, but it does not necessarily have the same meaning and usage. In this paper, I will consider the use of “qilai” after verbs in the Chengdu dialect. After examining “qilai” and “qi+lai” according to internal structures, I will compare the meaning and usage of “V qilai” and “V qi+lai” in the Chengdu dialect and Putonghua(Standard Mandarin).journal articl
