    No full text
A thesis presented to the thesis committee of the Department of Arts and Sciences Education. In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. There are few technologically based native or minority language studies in Davao del Norte, which is home to several indigenous languages. Some of these minority languages are represented either insufficiently or not on the internet or any other electronic resource. As the internet becomes more pervasive in society on a global scale, digitization is becoming increasingly crucial for language preservation. Using Multinomial Naive Bayes, we developed a language identification tool to identify Davao del Norte native languages (Ata-Manobo, Cebuano, and Mansaka) presented in a text. We experimented with varying sizes and quality datasets until the desired level of accuracy and performance had been achieved. The classifier's accuracy did not change significantly after adding training data. However, when tested with new inputs, the classifier appeared to perform better than it did with a smaller dataset. The model attained an accuracy of 98.43% due to the incorporation of additional training data. The input (text) length is still an essential factor to consider for an accurate language prediction.vii, 26 page

In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in EnglishIncludes bibliographic referencesCommunicative Competence is a ―slippery term coined by Shona Whyte in a language dissertation entitled ―Revisiting Communicative Competence in the Teaching and Assessment for Specific Purpose‖. It is a slippery term for Whyte (2019) due to many scholars and educators of the L2 has been interpreting the method in various ways that makes sense for the reason that these terms were born from multiple assessment and uses of language education. All throughout the formal and informal form teaching of linguistics, it is thereby considered that Communicative Competence is one of the magnifying method to the outstanding learning of language students. Many scholars, teachers, and L2 researchers took Dell Hyme‘s application of constructing language learning through communicative competence which others have dominantly modified, advanced, and adapted to grasp the practical concerns in language teaching and testing. This research paper seeks to scrutinize the role of communicative competence in the field of language teaching and learning. Moreover, considering the capability of the learners is one of the factors that either motivates or fails the use of communicative competence inside the classroom. As a team, we carefully have chosen this method in language teaching because of its versatility, enabling the language learning and language acquisition corporate for the meaningful learning of the students which is worth reflecting for the facilitators. At the end of this language research, we concluded that communicative competence sharpens and hyphens the teacher and students or connects both of the participants in a more meaningful learning of the English language. In primary and secondary education, language method deems to uncover essential background from the learners to tap their need of understanding, of sympathy when it comes to learning the foreign language. Which shows that teachers are more creative and empathetic to their learners in teaching. While in higher education, a teaching method is used to transform, to build a principle or discipline to the learners that enables them not to be adamant to the foreign language yet open their souls to learning the language efficiently.vii, 97 page

In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in ArchitectureClassrooms in the Philippines are mostly built on economical standardized designs. One of these economic constraints is using windows such as jalousies and awning windows. With this economic approach in mind, the indoor environmental quality of classrooms is often overlooked in the country. The study will determine if the air velocity of naturally ventilated classrooms with awnings and jalousie windows can provide acceptable ventilation rates based on ASHRAE 55 (2017) Standards. The study used a quantitative research method and collected data from site measurements and student surveys. Site measurement data were assessed by t- testing to test whether the commonly used classroom windows perform within, below, or above the preferred ventilation rate ranges by ASHRAE and identify whether one of the window types performs better than the other. The results show that classrooms fitted with both windows performed within the ASHRAE range, with jalousie having a mean air velocity of !!=0.25m/s and jalousie windows having a mean air velocity of !!=0.63m/s. However, the air temperature performance of both windows was above the ASHRAE range by a considerable margin. Students rated the classrooms with jalousie windows as "averagely windy" and "slightly cool" and rated the classrooms with awning windows as "okay but less windy" and "neutral" in thermal performance. The test results showed a significant difference between the two windows, with the jalousie windows performing 39.6% better than awning windows in air velocity and 2.29% in air temperature. In terms of orientation, the school’s classroom windows that were facing northwest performed significantly better than windows facing northeast

In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Science in Civil EngineeringIn recent years, industrial production and anthropogenic activities increased the concentration of air pollutants, exacerbating ambient air pollution. Ambient air pollution is considered a significant environmental problem and detrimental to human health. The Philippines is one of the fastest urbanizing countries in East Asia and Davao City is one of the highest and most competitive industrialized cities in the country. Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer- aided technology used to visualize and map the spatiotemporal variation of air quality levels. In this study, the data of the four parameters, particulate matter 10 (PM10), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and ground-level ozone (O3) from the five (5) air quality monitoring stations (DC Stations 2, 7, 11, 14, 15) in Davao City were map using the Inverse Distance Weighting interpolation method. Subsequently, the four maps were overlaid to create an ambient air vulnerability map. Based on the findings, this study conclude that all of the monitoring stations in the city had greatly exceeded the Global Air Quality Guideline Values (GAAQGV) set by the World Health Organization for PM10 and NO2, except for SO2 and O3. Moreover, most stations had increased the concentration of the four pollutants. The vulnerability maps revealed that 23,928 structures are affected within the 1km buffer. There are 13,035 (54.48%) structures considered to be very highly vulnerable, 5,547 (23.18%) are highly vulnerable, 3,078 (12.86%) are moderately vulnerable, and 2,268 (9.48%) are very lowly vulnerable. A big part of the city is classified as highly vulnerable, with only the areas located around Station 3 classified as lowly vulnerable and Station 1 as moderately vulnerable. With this, it indicates that implementing policies that ensure clean and ambient air must be strongly enforced in the community to address the problem of ambient air pollution
