Flourishing School Library Faculty Members: Understanding Academic Workload

    No full text
Faculty members engage in research, teaching, service, and administration and are expected to excel in all areas to be awarded tenure and promotion. There is a disconnect between expectations and realities for school library faculty members in terms of teaching, research, service and administration. Consistent with previous research, school library faculty members work long hours. Individual goals, discretionary power, and collective good come into conflict in different ways at different stages of a career. This study also provides a starting point for others interested in examining and comparing academic work in different disciplines. Potential and current school library faculty may use the findings to inform career decisions, e.g., entry to the profession, career progression, and mentorship

    No full text
Ecclesiastical and religious archives are those that reflect the multifaceted activities of theCatholic Church. A teaching project on documentary sources kept in ecclesiastical archives is herewith presented with the aim to be implemented in cooperation with the school library. The Pontifical Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church published a circular letter on the pastoral function of ecclesiastical archives in which it is stated that archives were considered to be the places of memory of Christian communities and cultural factors for the new evangelisation. The ancient documents \u27bear witness to the life and works of the church and together form a unique, essential and irreplaceable documentation, which is primarily intended to serve the church itself but also deserves to be preserved for the benefit of Historical Studies\u27. However, given their nature, these archives represent a very suitable source to develop school projects that can be carried out both in classrooms and in libraries

    No full text
The use of AI in school education is still in its infancy (Southgate et al., 2018); however, there is an increasing expectation for teachers to become “AI Ready” – able to integrate AIsafely and effectively into student learning, teaching students about how AI works and theimportance of using these powerful tools ethically (Luckin et al., 2022 p. XIV). This researchproject acknowledges the leading role TLs can play in shifting mindsets and practiceregarding generative AI platforms and will provide the groundwork for future investigationswhich more deeply investigate specific implementations of these or other similar tools. While the initial response of school systems might be fight (locking down access) orflight (pretending these platforms do not exist), a planned and informed strategy forembedding AI capabilities into educational practice, led by the TL as an information andpedagogical expert, is more likely to bring about long-term positive outcomes for studentswho will be learning and living in a world increasingly shaped by algorithms and automation
