The automated Bus Fare Collection System is a combination of hardware and software technology and is used in fare collection. The reloadable RFID card used in the system is a small plastic card utilizing Radio Frequency Identification technology for storing information. The system addresses concern of violations and malpractices of conductors, and for the transparency and security of fare collections of the bus companies. This study aimed to develop an automated bus fare collection system for public transportation specifically for buses from Tagbilaran City to Ubay, and vice versa, route. It used a quantitative–qualitative paradigm for the research design. A survey was conducted to gather the required data. The collected data was then used for data interpretation. Discomfort, inconvenience, and inaccuracy were the three main issues and concerns of the commuters. By using RFID and GPS, the system collected, recorded, and monitored the fare collection with the help of the microcontroller Arduino Mega. It addressed the issues of the discomfort of manual collection of fares, inconvenience on the part of the conductors and passengers whenever there’s no change available, and the inaccuracy of fares; for those commuters of Bohol who did not receive the exact amount of change. Thus, this Automated Bus Fare Collection System is recommended

An intelligent Energy Saving System is a technologically advanced system that combines hardware and software to perceive and interact with the physical environment for saving electrical energy. Many times, students and teachers leave the classroom without switching off the lights and fans, thus electricity is wasted. This paper assesses the number of instances in a week the lights and fans are switched ON without room occupants in the 14 classrooms of the Achievers and Founders Buildings at the University of Bohol. Moreover, this paper gives importance to energy conservation inside the classroom by way of developing and recommending an automated energy-saving system that utilizes a real-time moving object detection approach and microcontroller unit to sense and control objects in the classroom focusing on the automatic control of lights and fans to reduce energy consumption. The study employed the developmental research method and applied a quantitative approach utilizing the direct and structured observation method in gathering the data. Frequency and ranking were the data treatment used for the data collected. The findings of this study revealed that there are at least 25 times in a week where the lights were left ON and at least 55 times in a week where the fans were left ON without anyone in the classroom. The proposed intelligent energy-saving system has favorable and consistent laboratory results wherein it was shown that the system can detect human presence and control the operation of the fans and lights. Through this system, the authors wish to contribute to minimizing electricity consumption and helping academic institutions save on their electricity bills

    Get PDF
As a developing country, the Philippines encourages its human resources to learn the English language to become globally competitive. As much as it is not technically considered a second or foreign language, many Filipinos, especially in rural areas still find English a new and difficult language. This research is anchored on the theories of Krashen (1987) on Second Language Acquisition and Horwitz et al. (1986) on Foreign Language Anxiety. The study aimed to assess the English Language Anxiety and Delivery in Oral Communications in relation to Academic Performance among Grade 8 students at Union National High School in Ubay, Bohol. Using a purposive complete enumeration, the study employed a questionnaire patterned after the “Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS)” and a rubric patterned from the Rubric for the Assessment of Oral Communication for Delivery” used by Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida. Using documentary analysis, the raw scores from a periodical test administered during the course of the study were utilized. Data were treated to Chi-square and Pearson r moment of correlation to test relationships among variables. Results show that there was no significant degree of correlation between English Language Anxiety and the students’ Oral Communication Delivery; however, there was a significant degree of correlation between Oral Communication Delivery and Academic Performance

The Deaf is an easily misunderstood minority due to the invisibility of their disability. Even among experts in SPED, Deafness is seen as simply as a sensory problem easily addressed with technological and sensory solutions, such as hearing aids and sign language. The review juxtaposed theories of development with theories on language acquisition to explore the effects of not having an expressive language in the formative years and how it ultimately affects the development of their emotions and personality. The study drew upon years of immersion with the students of a school for the Deaf, including interviews with 10 male and 10 female students during the school year 2013-2014. The study revealed that Deafness results in a delay in language acquisition, and a lag in academic development. However, the setup of the students at the academy which included sponsored education, a stay in a dormitory program supervised by surrogate parental figures while in the community of their peers, counterbalances the effects of difficulties in familial communications, delayed academic development, and the discrimination that they experience, leading to the conclusion that despite difficulties, the students had developed healthy self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-concept

    Get PDF
The Asian Psychological Services and Assessment, Inc. (APSA) is an institution conducting a diagnostic test of core subjects that includes Mathematics. Taking into account the importance of the subject, the researchers conducted a study on students’ performance in Math. The study sought to find if the mathematics grade is a correlator of APSA rating by testing the relationship between the final grade and APSA diagnostic test results. The researchers employed the quantitative method using documentary analysis of the existing records as to academic performance and APSA results. The subjects of the study were the 587 students of the University of Bohol High School across the four grade levels. The data obtained were then subjected to statistical treatments using the coefficient of correlation, t-test, and analysis of variance. Results revealed that there was a significant correlation between the grades and APSA results in Mathematics, while APSA results in the four levels varied significantly. This means that students with low final grades in math are likely to obtain low performance in APSA. The variance in the APSA results among the four levels implied that the trend differs - distributions of proficiency were different in the four levels

The Theory on Attaining Self-actualization among Older Adults stated that there are characteristics that a person should develop which will enable him or her to become self-actualized. These characteristics namely emotional intelligence, spirituality, and life satisfaction as possible predictors of self-actualization among older adults were investigated in this study to validate those assumptions of the theory. This descriptive-correlational study utilized a multi-stage sample of 180 senior citizens in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. A 5-part instrument package was utilized to (1) describe the respondents’ demographic profile and obtain measures for their (2) emotional intelligence using the 30-item Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form (TEIQue-SF), (3) spirituality using the 12-item Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-Being Scale (FACIT-Sp), (4) life satisfaction using the 5-item Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS)and (5) self-actualization using a 16-item questionnaire developed by Boyum (2004). A Pearson r analysis indicated that emotional intelligence [r(180)=.232, p=.004], spirituality [r(180)=.295, p=.019], and life satisfaction [r(180)=.530, p=.000] correlate positively with self-actualization. Multiple regression analysis further indicated that the three variables significantly predict self-actualization (p=.000). The findings suggest that becoming a self-actualized older adult requires the combined attributes of having a sense of spirituality, developing emotional intelligence, and attaining life satisfaction

    Get PDF
The research study was done to obtain information from two Kindergarten classes as variables; one class was taught in English, the other, in Bisaya. The effectiveness of language used in learning to read was assessed after explaining different components of reading. This study utilized a quasi-experimental research method that discovered the influence of controlled conditions, on experimental and manipulated variables. Fifty-four kindergarten pupils of San Pablo Elementary School were the subjects of the study. The results were treated statistically using the mean and two non-parametric tools namely, the Mann-Whitney U test and the Wilcoxon signed rank test to test the significant differences between the two groups and within groups. The data showed an increase in the reading skills of the learners in both classes. This result further implied that there was no significant difference in the usage of English or Bisaya in teaching. Learners, from both classes, were able to learn the concepts presented to them though there was a scarcity of instructional materials and other supplemental resources. Using the mother tongue in the classroom did not affect their proficiency and they were able to perform the skills in reading and this is also true among those in the English group. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the medium of instruction in the classroom was not a barrier to the teaching of early learners. Be it in English or Bisaya, the results were just comparable, and both languages could be used as a medium of instruction in learning how to read among young learners
