    Professional Preparation and Performance of Preschool Teachers in the Public and Private Schools of Cebu City, Philippines

This study determined the professional preparation and performance of the preschool teachers in public and private schools in Cebu City with the end view of using the findings in designing a Preschool Training Program.     A community outreach program (COP) is an essential component that converges the curriculum and provides opportunities for the people in the academe to apply the theories and concepts to actual life settings. This study looked into the effectiveness of the implementation of the institutional, programmatic schemes of the community involvement of the administration, faculty members, and students of the University of Bohol. The study made use of the descriptive survey method with the aid of a self-constructed questionnaire. The locale of this study was the University of Bohol and the communities that were recipients of the university’s community outreach program. The respondents of this study were the students and teachers of the different colleges of the University of Bohol, and the community officials of the communities who were involved in the community outreach program. The self-constructed questionnaire consisted of the Level of Attainment of the goals and objectives; Problems Met; Level of Participation and Involvement and Level of Satisfaction with the COP. The statistical treatments were used in the verification of the reliability of the results; and the treatment of the data analysis and interpretation of data using the weighted mean, significant difference of uncorrelated means, analysis of variance, Scheffe’s test, and Chi-square. A significant difference in the ratings for teachers and students in the attainment of goals and objectives of the COP has been noted in the Teachers College in which the teachers had significantly higher ratings than students

    Self-Esteem and Distress Tolerance of Criminology Students of the University of Bohol

    Self-esteem refers to one’s overall evaluation of oneself, while distress tolerance is the ability to withstand pressures and negative emotions. Both constructs have relationships with criminal behaviors based on various studies. The policing profession is one of the most stressful and risky jobs in the whole world, hence, this study aimed to determine the self-esteem level and degree of distress tolerance of Criminology students at the University of Bohol. The research used descriptive quantitative research utilizing two standardized tools, namely, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the Distress Tolerance Scale to determine the level of self-esteem of the respondents and to gauge the respondents’ degree of tolerance or ability to withstand negative effects or other aversive psychological and or physical states. Purposive sampling was used to get a sample from the total population. The respondents possessed high self-esteem as evidently shown by their mean score of 2.8. As revealed in the data, all the four-year levels obtained mean scores falling between the scales of 2.50-3.24 with an interpretation of high self-esteem

    Relations with the community of higher educational institutions are a necessary dimension in factoring their institutional sustainability as this fits the generational psyche of both the academe, in their shift from knowledge dispensing to learner-centered, and the student\u27s desire to build social frameworks. The bodies of knowledge relating to community relations, from experiential learning to service learning, support this necessity for the academe’s role in scholarship engagement. A study was made on the perceptions of the university stakeholders on the indicators for institutional sustainability, adapted from the CHED QA tool, on the issues of relevance of community programs, funding adequacy for the programs, and degree of participation by the school and its constituents. The researcher formulated survey questions that were distributed to and answered by key institutional stakeholders: the administrators, faculty members, non-teaching personnel, and students. The sample size for each group of respondents was one-third of their population. The differences in their responses were analyzed through weighted means and group means compared pairwise using Tukey’s honest significance difference (HSD) value. The analysis revealed that the stakeholders were of the same perception that the institutional sustainability attributes on relations with the community for the university were program-relevant, well-funded, and well participated

    Physical education provides additional uniqueness to the school curriculum as it is the only program that provides students with opportunities to learn motor skills, develop fitness, and gain socialization through a variety of activities that will enable students to develop self-trust and confidence to become successful in life. The study aimed to find out the impact of physical education on building the self-confidence and self-esteem of the students. The researcher employed the normative survey method using the questionnaire as the main tool and the purposive universal sampling method was used considering that only the Grade VII class was utilized as respondents, yet it was universal for the entire class participating in the study. The results showed that the student respondents themselves perceived that they had developed Self-Confidence but still needs to have more and needed to nurture their Self-Confidence. This suggests that the Grade VII students are skillful enough to do things on their own; hence, they are confident and satisfied in life. It also shows that the Grade VII students of VDT-ALC have already developed their Self-Esteem. This implies that the Grade VII students believe that because they have the skills and capability to do things and have confidence in their selves, therefore, they have high expectations to achieve whatever they aspire to or desire

    The term ‘stress’ generally refers to the response of a person when he is in a situation that forces him to act, change or adjust in order for him to be in balance or maintain footing. Stress can make students sick and can affect their feelings, thoughts, personalities, and performance. Thus, it is essential to ensure that they have the necessary skills and appropriate attitude in dealing with various school activities and school-related stress. It is the researcher’s objective to identify the stressors that affect the lifestyle of the third-year students of the College of Hospitality Management, Tourism, and Nutrition (CHMTN), and the mechanisms they practice to manage stress. The quantitative method of research was used with the aid of questionnaires. The data gathered were statistically treated making use of weighted means, composite means, and analysis of variance. The respondents included 80 students (82.47%) from the three courses of the CHMTN namely BSHRM, BSTM, AND BSND. Results showed composite means of Sometimes Affected (SA), Sometimes Manifested (SM), and Sometimes Elicited (SE) for the three respective areas of School-related Stress Experiences; Sometimes Affected (SA) for Stress in relation to the student\u27s studies, school performance, mood and relationship to family, friends, and community; and, Sometimes Applied (SA) for Stress Management Techniques.     Tourist Police Officers’ Compliance with Republic Act 9593

    The main role of tourist police officers is to ensure that the implementation of RA 9593 also known as the Tourism Act of 2009 has been executed. The main purpose of this study is to assess the roles of tourist police officers in compliance with the said law, in Panglao, Bohol from the perspective of the stakeholders and the police officers themselves, in the year 2015. This will serve as the basis for the recommendation to improve their services. The study employed the descriptive correlational method utilizing a researcher-made questionnaire based on the functions and responsibilities as contained in Republic Act 9593 as a data gathering tool. The respondents were fifty (50) barangay officials, fifty (50) community residents, twenty (20) businessmen, and thirty (30) tourist police officers. Findings revealed that the majority of them were less compliant as perceived by the two groups of respondents. The problem mostly encountered by tourist police officers was the lack of cooperation on the part of resort owners. The study concluded that there is a need for tourist Police Officers and tourism-related stakeholders to be more compliant with Republic Act 9593

    Assessment of the Operation of the 24-hour Convenience Stores in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines

    Round-the-clock establishments are no longer just for manufacturing but also for raising productivity and lowering costs in a wide range of industries. This study looked into the nature and operation of 24-hour convenience stores in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, with the objective to provide proper guidance and adequate information for entrepreneurs who are planning to increase and expand 24-hour convenience stores within the city. The researchers utilized the quantitative method with purposive sampling design with managers or proprietors and the convenient sampling design with 48 customers of such stores. Data were treated using percentages, weighted mean, t-test, and chi-square. Results showed that store owners made maximum use of time, equipment, and people; designed solutions for costly problems of morale, health, safety, and care for employees through benefits; and the disadvantages and advantages of running 24-hour convenience stores. The findings suggest that though the customers’ convenience of not being rushed due to fear of closing hours, the need for the huge investment coupled with the challenge of getting employees willing to work midnight shifts made these convenience stores challenging businesses to start up. The study found that contrary to general belief; these stores do not guarantee any economic stability during a national economic crisis. Such stores also do not help last-minute customers, given limited commodities

    Assessment of Service Quality Performance of the Work Scholars

    Service Quality simply means “service meets customer satisfaction.” It has a role in analyzing the difference between customer expectations and the company’s perception of the service provided. The study aimed to determine the Service Quality Performance of the Work scholars of the University of Bohol. It further aimed to analyze their respective IQ and academic performance as predictors of service quality. Using a quantitative method approach with the aid of a standardized questionnaire on the 22 Statement SERVQUAL Model, the study involved 131 working scholars from the University of Bohol. Results showed that the Work Scholars were excellent (Composite Mean = 3.58) on the service quality performance as assessed by themselves, while their direct heads rated them as very satisfactory (Composite Mean = 3.17). Also, the academic rating of the working scholar contributes to the level of the service quality performance they deliver from their respective office assignment. Lastly, there was a slight difference in the perception between the working scholars and their direct heads

    Financial Literacy and Retirement Preparedness among University of Bohol Employees

    Financial literacy refers to the awareness and knowledge of business and finance, financial capability, money management, and financial planning, which is a vital tool for retirement preparedness. This paper has investigated the level of retirement preparedness of the UB Employees vis-à-vis their level of financial literacy. The study applied a quantitative approach, utilizing the descriptive-normative survey method with a modified survey questionnaire. The quantitative data collected were coded to ensure the confidentiality of the data. The analysis, comparison, and checking for similarities or differences in financial literacy in correlation with retirement preparedness were statistically treated using the Pearson Product Moment Correlation, Chi-Square, and t-test. Based on the results, showed that there is a negative correlation between financial literacy and the level of retirement preparedness. In conclusion, a high level of financial literacy does not translate to preparation for life after employment. Young professionals are slightly more financially literate than their older counterparts. However, most of them do not have any investments allotted for retirement. Implications of this study would serve as the basis for attaining the employees’ goal for their retirement preparation and will form part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) project for the employees
