Suicide is an act of taking one’s life. This paper determined the suicidal-related thoughts among the first-year college students of the University of Bohol. Suicidal-related thought is a cognitive process that involves contemplation of ending one’s own life. It utilized a quantitative research design with the aid of a standardized instrument - The Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R) that assesses suicidal ideation and its frequency, suicide attempt, and the likelihood of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. There were 523 students from 11 colleges who participated in this study. It comprised 50.94% females and 41.63% males. Results revealed that having a suicide plan is evident among the respondents in college I, while suicide-risk ideation is apparent in colleges A, J, K, C, H, and E. Suicidal ideation is experienced rarely or at one time by some respondents. Nonetheless, they have manifested the risk of likely, somewhat likely, and very likely committing suicide in the future. Findings also revealed that females have higher suicidal ideation than males. But both sexes are at risk as regards committing suicide in the future. Hence, it takes into consideration that suicidal-related thoughts may influence suicidal behavior in the future

Parenting styles are a psychological construct representing standard strategies that parents use in their child-rearing that can implicate the child\u27s socialization, which plays a significant role in children\u27s development. The study aimed to seek the relationship between the three parenting styles identified by Baumrind (1967) and the preschoolers\u27 socialization with their peers, their kind of play, and the manifestation of problem behaviors. The study used a descriptive method utilizing observation of the six subjects in the preschool level of UB VDTALC, the parenting style, and Dimension Questionnaire is a survey tool for the parents of the six subjects and the Key-informants interviewed among the teachers. It was found that most of the subjects\u27 parents use Authoritarian parenting styles and sometimes use Authoritative and Permissive parenting styles. Five out of six subjects exhibit more positive behavior toward parents who most often use the Authoritative Parenting Style. Only one child exhibits negative behaviors toward parents who most often use the Authoritative Parenting Style but have the lowest overall composite mean in the Authoritative Parenting Style. This study will help parents and early childhood educators know what roles to take in terms of their parenting style

Parenting styles provide the emotional climate for interaction between parents and children and have a significant impact on the family’s quality of life.   School performance is considered as the adolescents’ capacity to interact effectively with the school environment by getting the general point average of their grades in the four quarters of School Year 2018-2019.  This paper examined the effects of parenting styles on self-esteem and school performance among the Senior High students of Tubigon, Bohol, Philippines. The study utilized the descriptive normative survey method of research in gathering data through the use of a standardized survey tool in getting the parenting styles and self-esteem of the respondents. Data mining or desk review was conducted in securing the academic performance of the Senior High School of Tubigon, Bohol. Data were processed using averaging, Freeman Halton Test, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Chi-Square. The majority of the 400 respondents yielded similar results in the four parenting styles, first is authoritative in both mothers (52.5 percent) and fathers (46.5 percent). It is followed by the permissive, father (21.5 percent), and mother (17.8 percent). It is followed by ambivalent parenting with fathers (18.8 percent) and mothers (17 percent). The majority (75.5 percent) of the respondents have high self-esteem. Almost a fourth (24.5 percent) had average self-esteem, and no one reflected low self-esteem. Nearly half (45.8 percent) of the total number of respondents had satisfactory school performance, more than a third (36 percent) had an outstanding rating, above a tenth (14 percent) had Very Satisfactory, and very few reflected Fairly Satisfactory (4.3 percent) results. The result of the Freeman-Halton test revealed that there is no statistically significant association between the fathers’ and mothers’ parenting styles and the age groups of the respondents. The Chi-square test revealed that the parenting styles of both the father (X2=7.717, df=3, p<0.10) and the mother (X2 =7.683, df=3, p<0.05) are statistically associated with the sex of the respondents. As to the relationship between self-esteem and academic performance, chi-square revealed a significant result. There is strong evidence of a difference (p-value < 0.05) between the mean ranks of at least one pair of the indicated categories. There is strong evidence that suggests that parenting styles have some bearing on how students perform at school

    Get PDF
Assessing teachers’ attitudes in the implementation of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) is essential for the success of this new paradigm shift in the educational system. This study used a descriptive research design where the researcher gathered quantitative data utilizing a survey questionnaire to assess the attitude fostered by the teachers of the University of Bohol towards OBE. It further assessed the level of its implementation in the four major areas: formulation and alignment of learning outcomes, curriculum content and structure, teaching-learning process, and assessment. Findings of the study revealed that the respondents’ age, length of teaching experience, and highest educational attainment have no direct relationship to OBE implementation. However, the respondents’ age is directly related to the level of its implementation. Results also revealed that teachers who have a highly favorable attitude towards OBE are more motivated and willing to carry out the overall processes that necessitate OBE implementation. For a change in education to be effective and long-lasting, teachers need to view the entire OBE process as desirable and necessary. With a strong determination and purpose combined with a collaborative effort between the school administrators, teachers, students, and other stakeholders, indeed successful implementation of this newly adopted curriculum in higher education institutions will reach far beyond one could imagine

Financial literacy is the capacity to analyze financial options, plan for the future, and respond appropriately to events. This study intends to look into the association between financial literacy and financial management. The study utilized a quantitative approach employing a descriptive normative survey of a modified survey questionnaire on financial literacy and financial management. The respondents of the study were the participants of the annual national conference of the Grace Gospel Church of Christ, which was held in Iloilo City on April 22-27, 2019 with 250 adult respondents. The questionnaire on Financial Literacy and Management Practices was used to measure the financial literacy of individuals. The questionnaire considered the most critical personal finance factors in the measurement of the level of financial knowledge literacy and the financial decision-making on financial practices (Cronbach’s Alpha results of Financial Literacy of 0.929, Financial Management of 0.738). It was found that the Normality Test utilizing the Shapiro-Wilk yielded significant results in almost all items. Hence, non-parametric tests were used in the statistical runs. To ensure the “do-no-harm,” after complying with the consenting forms, the researchers submitted them to the Ethics Review Committee as an assurance that the researchers followed the ethics protocol. Financial Literacy and Management Practices significantly differ in each of the three groups in the congregation namely Leaders (t=11.567, exact sig=0.000), Non-Leaders between financial literacy and management practices by rank in the congregation (t=12.431, exact sig=0.000), and Members (t=23.930, exact sig=0.000). T-Test showed significant differences between the financial management practice on Personal/Family Budget and Financial Decision-Making
