Social governance is an essential component of China's governance system and is the cornerstone of "Governance of China." In the new era, the Communist Party of China adopts the core value pursuit of "People-centered" as the rational choice for governing the country. "People-centered" is also the core concept of social governance in China. As participants in social governance, the satisfaction of the public is an important evaluation indicator for measuring the effectiveness of social governance. How to scientifically quantify and evaluate the satisfaction with social governance has always been a key issue in evaluating the effectiveness of social governance. This study constructs a scientific evaluation indicator system and uses the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to make a scientific evaluation of public satisfaction with social governance. This is also beneficial for carrying out other social governance work based on the evaluation results, thereby improving governance effectiveness

THE NEXUS BETWEEN THE ABSENCE OF A SOCIAL COMPACT, SOCIETAL POLARIZATION AND ITS IMPACT ON SERVICE DELIVERY IN SOUTH AFRICAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT

    Get PDF
South Africa, a nation marked by profound disparities, is deeply entrenched in the painful historical legacies of its past. The discourse on socio-economic transformation has been ongoing since the African National Congress (ANC) came into power in 1994, aiming to foster a social compact and reconcile the polarized society. Despite these efforts, black communities continue to face discrimination in service delivery. Daily reports of protests in impoverished, predominantly black communities emphasize the absence of a social compact in South Africa. This paper, primarily conceptual in nature and relying on secondary data, seeks to explore the nexus between the absence of a social compact, societal polarization, and its impact on service delivery in South African local government. It contends that addressing issues of poor service delivery, public protests and anti-government sentiment must start with acknowledging the absence of a social compact. This recognition should serve as the foundation for pursuing new paradigms for effective development and good governance practices at the local government level. The findings of this study suggest that the absence of a social compact is not only a result of human actions but also reflects structural issues. This absence exacerbates societal divisions, erodes trust in governance structures and hampers collaborative efforts crucial for effective service provision. Furthermore, societal polarization compounds challenges related to resource allocation and perpetuates disparities in service access, particularly impacting marginalized communities. In conclusion, the paper proposes policy recommendations aimed at fostering social cohesion, addressing structural inequalities, and promoting inclusive governance practices

Certain species of oomycetes, such as Pythium spp., exhibit high aggressiveness, posing a significant threat to young plant tissues of greenhouse crops like cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes, leading to substantial yield losses. This research aims to identify highly virulent fungi of the genus Trichoderma Pers. ex Fr. for the protection of greenhouse crops against the pathogen Pythium sp. Pathogenicity testing of Pythium sp. was conducted using cucumber seedling infection assays. The antagonistic activity of nine Trichoderma cultures against Pythium sp. was assessed through dual culture experiemntal method. After 10 days, four fungi — Trichoderma lignorum (syn. T. viride) CNMN-FD-14, T. asperellum, T. koningii, and Trichoderma sp. 1K — completely colonizedthe pathogen, achieving a 100% inhibition rate. The remaining Trichoderma strains inhibited the pathogen with rates ranging from 83.5% to 94.1%. All Trichoderma strains tested in this study demonstrate potential for protecting greenhouse crops against the oomycete Pythium sp.
