AN APPRAISAL OF THE CAPACITY OF NATIONAL COUNTER TERRORISM STRATEGY TO PREVENT AND COMBAT TERRORISM IN NIGERIA
The standing policy adopted by Nigerian states to fight against terrorism is known as the National Counter Terrorism Strategy (NACTEST). This tactic has five pillars, namely: to forestall, to secure, to identify, to prepare, and to implement. Most of the literature engages on reasons for the emergency of terrorism, the effect of terrorism, or the strategy adopted by the terrorist to perpetrate their heinous activities. However, little attempt has been made to evaluate the efficacy of Nigeria's strategy against terrorism, especially NACTEST. Based on this backdrop, this paper is an attempt to examine the performance of Nigeria in identifying terrorist plans and its preparations to thwart them. These are two major and critical pillars of the NACTEST document (to identify and prepare). The paper adopts secondary methods of data gathering and content analysis for analyzing both primary and secondary data as a source of information gathering and content analysis methods for analyzing the generated data. The paper also adopted protracted social conflict theory to analyze the reasons for terrorism and the methods adopted by the Nigerian government to address those motivating factors. It was discovered that the Nigerian government has been able to prevent attacks by terrorists by identifying some sources of terrorist funding in Nigeria. However, it was discovered that, as far as the capacity of the government is concerned, security agencies still lack the necessary capacity to efficiently explore and detect terrorist attacks before they occur. The paper recommends more engagement of civilians and community stakeholders in fighting against terrorism in Nigeria
UNPACKING THE PLACE OF ARCHAEOLOGY AND HERITAGE IN PANDEMIC STUDIES
Archaeology offers a 3.5 million-year-long scientific record of human and earlier hominine problem-solving and thus has the potential to research very deep into the past human solutions to pandemics and epidemics. Heritage on the other hand acts as a positive enabler for the complex, multi-vector challenges of today’s world, such as cultural and environmental sustainability, economic inequalities, conflict resolution, social cohesion and the future of cities among others. In this way, the remote past has the capacity to educate the present world on how to cope with pandemic diseases and similar challenges in the contemporary era. Therefore, this essay seeks to open a discourse on the ways in which archaeology and heritage can contribute to the prevention and control of the present COVID-19 pandemic and similar others in the present and future. Therefore, the government and other agencies funding research pertaining to the discovery of the ways through which pandemics can be treated, controlled and prevented, need also to explore the option of archaeology and heritage studies, so as to trace the root causes of pandemic diseases. This will lead to the discovery of traditional means of treating, controlling and preventing pandemic outbreaks. This underscores the argument that almost everything that exists in the present day has some historical antecedence
Azerbaijan places significant emphasis on the cultivation of stone fruits, particularly apricots (Armeniaca Scop.). Consequently, it is rather important to investigate the main diseases affecting this crop. This article presents research findings on Armillaria root rot (Armillaria mellea (Vahl) P.Kumm.), one of the most common and harmful diseases affecting apricot trees. The study was conducted in apricot orchards of significant industrial importance situated in western Azerbaijan from 2021 to 2023. It was observed that while this disease is widespread, it tends to inflict more damage in apricot orchards employing low-level agricultural practices. The research aimed to determine the distribution, intensity of development, and harmful effects of Armillaria root rot. Detailed studies were conducted on the biology of the disease-causing agent, including its development, reproduction, distribution periods, and environmental requirements. As a result, a scientifically grounded system encompassing agrotechnical and chemical control methods has been developed to control the disease effectively.
THE USE OF VEGETABLE-DERIVED PROTEINS FOR NEW FOOD PRODUCTS
Nowadays there is a high concern with newly-identified protein sources to substitute all kinds of proteins derived from animals. The food industry faces a challenge to produce quality food products that can feed more than nine billion people by 2050, upholding the principles of a sustainable and environmentally affordable way. This idea can be supported by the use of legumes that stand out with appreciable protein content, rich in essential amino acids that increase the foaming and emulsifying properties as well as the dietary fiber content. In recent years, in order to solve environmental and social problems and to diversify food products to cover different nutritional types, proteins of plant origin are used to replace those of animal origin. The present work described a review about emerging alternative proteins for nutrition which focuses on its properties and characteristics. The work analyzes the influence of alternative proteins sources on the food products'sustainability
COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE MADE FROM SELECTED ADMIXTURES FOR USE IN RIGID PAVEMENTS
This study evaluates the influence of sawdust ash, glass powder and rice husk ash as admixtures for partially replacing fine aggregate in concrete for rigid pavement applications. Compressive strength tests were conducted at 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% replacement levels. Rice husk ash achieved the highest compressive strength of 10.40 N/mm2 at 10% replacement after 28 days, closest to the control. However, sawdust ash and glass powder exhibited reduced strengths as replacement levels increased. The maximum compressive strength obtained did not meet the required target for rigid pavement applications
GROWTH OF SINGLE CRYSTALS, PHOTOELECTRIC PROPERTIES AND THE ABSORPTION EDGE OF A NEW LAYERED CuGa2.5In2.5S8 COMPOUND
In this article, the conditions for obtaining monocrystals of CuGa2.5In2.5S8, were investigated, their optical absorption edge, electrical and photoelectric properties. Using the criteria for the formation of new layered chalcogenides with octahedral and tetrahedral coordination of cations, it was hypothesized that due to the replacement of half of the In atoms in the CuIn5S8 spinel with Ga, which has a pronounced tendency to occupy the tetrahedral B sites in a denser packing of S atoms, a layered phase is formed. Melting of a stoichiometric mixture of Cu+2.5Ga+2.5In+8S led to the synthesis of a previously unknown single-phase product with a layered crystalline structure. Since copper, gallium, and indium sulfides are generally good photoconductors, it could be expected that the new compound would also exhibit high photosensitivity. The aim of this work was to investigate the conditions for obtaining of CuGa2.5In2.5S8 single crystals, their optical absorption edge, electrical and photoelectric properties
