Child Sponsorship Programme for the Development of Marginalised Children
Child sponsorship is a vital tool for development by transferring funds from rich countriesto children in developing countries. It supports the development of marginalised childrenprimarily through education. This article describes the outcome evaluation of a 10-yearintervention by a sponsoring agency in Kerala, India. The study evaluated the outcomeregarding self-esteem, achievement motivation and family functioning of the sponsoredchildren, adopting a post-test-only quasi-experimental design with a control group (CG).Data were collected from 80 individuals (Intervention group [IG], n = 40 and CG, n = 40)and analysed statistically using SPSS. The paired sample t-test rejected the nullhypotheses confirming the significant differences in the measure of variables forparticipants in the IG and CG. The thematic analysis of qualitative data collected byinterviewing 10 child-mother dyads triangulated the quantitative results asserting thepositive outcome of the intervention

Migration is a process in which an individual or a group moves theirresidence from one place to another. Migrant workers consist of thoseworking in the unorganised sector or households, excluding regular workerswith social security benefits provided by the employers (Sathya, 2016).Migrants presently constitute an integral part of Kerala, but their acceptancein social life is a matter of concern. Inclusion and integration are importantfor the holistic development of migrants. Recently several healthprogrammes were introduced for the migrants in Kerala by the NationalHealth Mission, Atithi Devo Bhava and Bandhu mobile clinics forproviding them with health care and the associated services. In Keralathere is a huge influx of migrants mostly from States such as West Bengal,Bihar, Assam, Odissa, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Resistance to Reintegration among Leprosy-Cured Individuals: A Study from Kerala
Leprosy is more than a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacteriumleprae. It leads to severe deformities and is a condition laden with stigma.A person diagnosed with leprosy faces challenges in all physical, social,psychological and financial aspects of life. This qualitative study has exploredthe psychosocial challenges encountered by leprosy-cured individuals atthe Kozhikode Government Dermatology Hospital in Kerala, India, andthe reasons for their resistance to reintegration. This study adopted aphenomenological paradigm and undertook a theme-based analysis. Datawas collected from six participants, three males and three females, whohad spent more than 10 years at the hospital despite being cured. Theparticipants were purposively selected and interviewed using a semistructuredinterview guide.
