    Impact of Financial Leverage on Corporate Performance: Evidence from Indian Power Sector

    This paper examines the impact of capital structure on corporateperformance. The study is based on secondary data of sixteenlisted large-sized power sector companies forming part of theBSEPOWER index as identified from the Capitaline database forthe period 2006-2017. The corporate performance is proxiedusing two accounting measures viz. return on asset (ROA) andreturn on equity (ROE). Leverage is taken as the independentvariable which is measured not only by the overall debt-equityratio but also long-term and short-term debt ratios. The squareof these leverage measures is taken to test the linearity of therelationship. The control variables include size, tangibility,liquidity and age of the firm. The study reveals a mixed result.While the impact of leverage on ROE is positive, the impact onROA is negative. ‘Size’ shows a significant negative effect in allcases in contrast to positive effect in few cases only. Liquidityand operating expense ratio do not have a significant influenceon corporate performance

    Accreditation of a healthcare organisation stimulates ongoing improvementand enables the organisation to demonstrate a commitment to quality care.The healthcare accreditation process has an impact on physical infrastructuredevelopment and is not linked to overall patient satisfaction. This studyexamined patient satisfaction of accredited hospitals in Kerala in comparisonto non-accredited hospitals by focusing on exploring the impact ofaccreditation on hospital service quality using patient satisfaction as anindicator. The study showed that there was no significant impact ofaccreditation on patient satisfaction and both accredited and non-accreditedhospitals give identical scores for the variables of satisfaction

In his educational experiments, he tried to transform his philosophy of life into achieving the realisation of the evolution and establishment of an ideal society in the country. He wanted to create a new society based on truth and non-violence. The scheme he recommended as basic education stands for a new courage and approach to education. Gandhi introduced a new and comprehensive way of education in an effort to improve the existing system. His suggestions are helpful to the contemporary Indian education system, and focus on the rapid growth and development of elementary education in the country with less burden on the government.     WATER AS A NATURAL RESOURCE: RIGHT VERSUS NEED DEBATE

    This paper is an attempt to understand the complexity inherent inthe ongoing debate on water. It discusses the theoretical premise of thedebate by analysing the concepts of ‘right’, ‘need’ and ‘want’ with referenceto water as a natural resource. The World Bank and the InternationalMonetary Fund, under the influence of neo-liberalism and structuraladjustment programme, seem to have accepted the ‘Washington Consensus’that treats water as want to be available in the market. The national waterpolicy in India looks like being guided by the neo-liberal philosophy ofaccepting water as want. However, such a market-driven policy has its ownlimitations. Even if the ‘market’ is considered to be a rational and efficientinstitution, when it comes to management of natural resources like water, itis grossly inadequate to meet basic human needs.
